The university library used to be in one of the oldest buildings on campus, tucked away towards the very back, with what looked like dengue-infested pools of brackish water and refuse of bygone intellectual generations. But then Henry Sy Sr. partnered with the school and built the revolutionary Henry Sy Sr. Hall, or the Centenial Hall. Here's what revolutionary about it: the place has 14 floors, and there are escalators. Escalators! How many schools do you know have escalators?
The library was moved, book after book, to the new building, and was rebranded as the Learning Commons. 5 pristine, white-tiled, well-lit, and seriously comfortable floors for the general book population, with four more floors for the special collections. When the Hall first opened and I got my first look at the library, my knees buckled and I got a little light-headed. My first thought was, "So, this is what love at first sight feels like."
Then I saw that they stocked Twilight. Took me a while to get over that flaw. read more
