Every single individual who has become an undergraduate of the University of the Philippines - Diliman knows one thing is certain - you may be divided by different courses, political colors, or economic classes, but we all agree that you do not call this place Palma Hall unless you want to sound like a noob (and freshmen vehemently refuse to sound like noobs). You call this building AS.
AS (for Arts and Sciences, what they called the College of Social Sciences and Philosophy way back when bell bottoms were the rage) is the building for most Arts/Humanities and Social Sciences/Philo gen-ed classes that every undergrad has to take.
PROS: This is a beautiful classic building, from the landmark stairs to the lobby to the asymmetric wings. High ceilings and spacious corridors provide the needed natural air and lighting to make it comfortable inside even without air conditioning; AS Lobby is the universally agreed meeting place for various students to hold their projects, group works, events, tambays, or even rallies.
CONS: As expected of government-subsidized structures, bathrooms are just sad. No toilet paper and a working toilet flush is optional; There are the perpetual rumors of ghosts and student suicides, which is a permanent fixture of old buildings.
TL;DR: AS is the epitome of the UPD undergrad experience. read more
