The rudest waiter ever in our lives…read more We've been traveling all over the US and Europe, and we had the worst experience with a waiter in our lives during our lunch at the outside section on July 20. 1. After waiting 30 minutes during which other customers who ordered *after us* all received their dishes, we asked the server about our order. He ignored and bypassed us. 2. After finishing the lunch, we asked him for the bill and said we would pay with a credit card. We wanted to pay and leave quickly because we didn't have too much time. After waiting 10 minutes, we couldn't wait any more, so my wife spoke to the manager. The server finally came to us. When my wife asked to see the price, he confronted her by raising his voice, "Tap here, tap here. You'll see the price." Excuse me?? Customers need to see the price on the card machine before tapping the credit card to pay. 3. Then, the server yelled at me, "2 minutes, you leave." Excuse me?? It was him that forced us to wait there. Otherwise, we would have left right after finishing the lunch. When we complained to the manager, however, she behaved very professionally and apologized. The server never apologized although he was standing right next to the manager when we were complaining. One interesting thing was that the restaurant was full (more than 20 tables) and we were the only Asian people.

I was worried that the tourist attraction would lack gastronomically. Thankfully, I was wrong. I arrived to find a large tour group dining and only one free table left. Throughout my meal, I witnessed many diners turned away because they were booked up (this was on a Monday night), so make sure to come early or make a reservation. If you want the best view of the nautical decor, reserve a table on the upper level. My drink and food orders were taken promptly even though they were BUSY. I ordered the Rostocker Export draught to start. It was a great pour and went perfectly with my food. I ordered the pumpkin ginger soup and I sat there for 10-15 minutes with my taste buds blown. It was served hot, with dark bread croutons and pumpkin oil. It was smooth but thick and warmed my entire body. I ordered the sauteed herring with potatoes and green beans (Frisch gebratene Ostseeheringe mit deftigen grünen Speckbohnen und Bratkartoffeln) as my entree. I hadn't had a fish with bone-in in a long time, so eating it was a bit of a challenge for me. The flavors were great but the dish overall was a tad heavy. Both the potatoes and green beans are sauteed in bacon grease. I left feeling content and fit in a nice 15-minute walk before getting on the bus back to Berlin.
