I still come here whenever I'm over in Dordrecht to visit my grandmother, and it has become our own little ritual to go here. They've got a very cute outside terrace where you can sit during the summer, allowing for a view into the kitchen. During the winters, it is (in my opinion) one of the best places to sit inside. It's always got this holiday, Christmas-y vibe. It's cosy and warm, plus they make amazing hot chocolate. Aside of traditional pancakes and poffertjes, they also do slightly less typical things like pizza pancakes, veggie pancakes and halal pancakes. I might be biased because there's a lot of nostalgia here for me, but if you're visiting the Netherlands - this place is definitely something to put on your list. :)

So, we got all fitted and fixed up on our rental bikes and wearing NO helmets, started GPSing our way out of downtown, headed for the Theehuis Rhijnauwen. It wasn't too bad getting to the entrance to the forest, only a few close scrapes, but once we crossed over, we were biking in the open air with the most beautiful green spaces surrounding us. The rest of the ride was pretty fantastic. We saw friends biking in parallel sync, chatting away, and only wished that I was able to master my bicycle enough to do that too. Anyway, we arrived soon enough and found a spot to lock up our bikes. The place was hopping, but we got a table outside pretty easily. We were looking out on the greenest grassy field with two mini donkeys prancing around on a grassy knoll. The ONLY downside was that I had pre-ordered a tea service for the two of us, which was not great food-wise. I watched so many plates of big pancakes pass by longingly. Our tea service food was a lot of ok sweets and some salami, and then more sweets. Oof. On the other hand, there was no way I was going to let the disappointment of the food ruin the overall magic.
