Staff equally friendly and beer selection with more German selections. My normal lunch is tomato soup and a salad when in NL and varied very little. But I was craving a sandwich (mmm carbs) so went with 1) warsteiner beer, always delicious 2) tomato soup, pretty middle of road but no complaints from me! 3) tomato, mozzarella, pesto toasted sandwich on brown bread, delicious 4) konig Ludwig witbier to finish :) All in all a good relaxing environment. So I'd say if you are solo come here and if you are with a crowd try across the street (they seem better staffed for crowd..only two waitresses here)

The staff is so friendly, they all speak German, the service is great, it's a beautiful restaurant and the food is amazing. I had the tomatoes, mushrooms & cheese and an apple & cheese pancake. The others had the ham & cheese, bacon & cheese, ham & mushrooms & cheese, ham & apples & cheese pancakes and a salami pizza. Stroop with the pancakes, of course! I could have eaten two each time. So good. They manage to bring everyone's food out at the same time. Even for a group of about 20 people they only needed a couple of minutes cos even the kitchen staff was giving a hand or two. Whatever everyone else in the restaurant got (sandwiches, soups, meats etc.) looked amazing too. Sometimes we wish we didn't live 3 hours away... p.s. try the ice tea! :)

A true gem found by a co worker on his last trip to North Holland. I have stayed in Alkmaar,…read moreSchagen, and Bergen but this location was perfect in many ways. First the friendly staff welcoming me into the hotel and to my spacious room with a great courtyard view. Second the bar/ lounge area. Not many draft beers but plenty of bottles and several delicious whiskies. Next the indoor pool and sauna. Small but empty most evenings. A "gym" connected with a single treadmill, elliptical, cycle, and rowing machine. Once again empty so I was able to get a workout in during rain showers. Dinner was great (3 courses for 28 euro) in grand cafe but I have heard the formal dining area is a bit pricier. And finally breakfast. Filling and served at the table so no buffet style eating to start the day :)

It was Sunday at 6pm and the place was packed, lively, and gezelling. Be careful when you go, or make a reservation to make sure you can get a table. We had to sit outside in the cold because it was the only way we could eat at a reasonable time. Our toddler ran around in the closed street in front of the restaurant and played with other kids, so it worked out ok. As for the food, overall it was expensive and mediocre. It was pretty disappointing. The fondue appetizer was made from bleu cheese, yuck! and this was not warned about on the menu at all. The french onion soup was mostly salty fatty water, and not much cheese. My husband had the fish and it was ok. We got fries for our little one and she seemed to like them. She later danced to the bells playing in the former church across the way, so that was entertaining. The service was slow and nobody came to check on the food once it was delivered, so that was annoying, especially since we were sitting in the cold and would have liked to have eaten quickly. The fancy mint chocolate coffee drink I had was nice though. The whipped cream stayed on the top of it for a long time instead of dissolving into the coffee right away. Maybe if you're local this is a great hangout since it's full of so many people. But if you're looking for good food and service I'd recommend trying somewhere else.
