He spent at least 20 min talking to me and making sure he understood what I wanted and how I work with my hair every day, because I was so nervous after getting bad haircut after bad haircut elsewhere (okay, not bad just nothing like I wanted). After he started cutting, he seemed like he was really enjoying working with my hair and in general made me feel like a million bucks. My hair turned out amazing, even better than I had hoped. Today it was my turn to get a hair cut & color. Yelp to the rescue! The name of this place was attractive to me, because I am a circus buff (and author of a circus book). So I looked at the reviews and all the fabulous pictures of hair here on Yelp, and took a chance. I called & made an appointment. I think it was with Lydia over the phone, and I went in today, for my appointment. We chatted. I like to give the basics about my hair & broad goals and tell my lady to just have fun. I told her about my trichtotillomania. I told her about my own color jobs - my roots were showing. The previous job was showing, and the very light ends were most of my head. The trichtotillomania had grown out in places on the top of my head and needed to be blended in so they would hide. I have previously had a wonderful hair dresser cut my hair very short (which I am okay with) to hide the ends I have pulled out. I am with a new partner who likes me to have long hair, so Lydia decided on a multi-layer haircut. And I told her I like ash blonde and pink and lavender / light purple. She went with darker roots to match my own roots "so it will grow out nicely" and she added pink and purple to the tips. There were 4 colors going on my head to make this happen!! 1 color for the roots, pink, light purple, and ash blonde for the ends of my hair. She did such a phenomenal job!! Worth every penny. I will definitely be going back and asking for Lydia the Tattooed Lady at The Bearded Lady Salon in Wichita. PS: There is also a super sweet dog here named Gretel. Gretel and I had a nice moment where I was petting her and she stayed with me so long as I was petting her. What a love bug she is.

I went in to get my hair cut and dyed the day before my birthday, the place is cute and calm but…read morethe quality was horrible. My hair was brown/red from a previous dye and I wanted golden blonde all over, not highlights or a foil weave, full blonde. I was given highlights that you could barely see and I left the salon crying. I went back in to ask for it to be fixed the next day and was able to get in. But when I went in I showed alia and another stylist my reference Pic (which was me a couple years ago) and I was told the color i had was basically the same and only needed a little lightening. I said the problem is that I was expecting all of my hair to be lightened and not just highlights. They said okay and began, I was so uncomfortable having alia doing my hair again that I didnt realize she did another foil weave until she was almost done. I should have said something but I didnt because I was already feeling ignored. Alia said she had a haircut coming in and that someone else will check on the bleach. Almost 45 minutes later someone comes and check the foil, and asks what was wrong with how it was, and I said again that I didnt want highlights and I wanted all over blonde and she said "yeah, this is almost there" and walked away. I sat in the chair crying for 15-20minutes and not a single stylist noticed. The bleach was put on my head around 3:30, and didnt get washed off until 5:20. After a rushed wash and "blow dry" my hair was still damp and full of chunky, bright highlights. So over two days I spent 200$ and almost 8 hours at the salon to leave with hair thats still not what I asked for. I left crying again and will never be returning to this salon, I was ignored and how I wanted my hair was disregarded for what she wanted to do. Below is the final of what my hair looks like. Spending that much money at a professional salon shouldn't end in two days of tears and a ruined day.

I may live in Florida, but I can't bring myself to go anywhere else. I love trying new things on occasion and she is always ready to go. She does do walk-in but it's better to have an appointment as she is typically fully booked a few weeks in advance. I'm fortunate on my last-minute trip here that she had a cancellation this morning and could fit me in!!! Now let's talk about her new location! Love! She is near QuickTrip so you can grab a snack and drink right before or after your appointment. Plenty of parking and easily accessible off east central.
