Since September 2025 to this date, November 2025, management at DCF has made the decision NOT to provide heat in the rifle range. Temperatures in the range have generally hovered from 44 to 55 degrees. Too cold for comfort! As we get into the colder months, shooting in the rifle range will become intolerable, and it seems that the management couldn't care less. Magnums gain! DCF's loss! read more

I came here a few months ago, for "Bang for the Bell," celebrating, supporting , and honoring U.S. Military Veterans, like my dad & granddad, with the Honor Bell Foundation. This is a members only shooting club. I was able to tag along with a friend and used the rifle and handgun range. The range was very clean and spacious. We didn't have an issue getting on a lane, signing in, paying, or shooting. All the lanes seemed to be working well too. Only Downside is that they have the handgun and rifle ranges separate so you have to go from one range to another if you're shooting both. Also, this location doesn't let you fire shotgun but their East location does. read more

I've been an active member of DCF West since they bought the Range from Whispering Pines. Unfortunately, it has mostly gone downhill from what it was prior to the new owners. The personnel who work the counters are generally helpful, and do their best, however, they can only do so much. Example: for the last two months, there has been NO HEAT in the rifle range. During October and November, temperatures at the indoor rifle range has hovered from 44 to 60 degrees. (measured with a Kestrel!) Too cold for comfort! Myself and others have brought this to the attention of the Staff, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. It's my suspicion that "upper management" simply doesn't care, and wants to save money on utilities. It may prove to be short sightedness, if enough members end up at Magnum Shooting Center as a result. Other irritants are poor lighting over the targets; target control systems failing; shot out target backings not replaced when needed; waste baskets not being emptied; broken equipment (shooting stools, table) not being maintained, repaired or replaced. There seems to be an excessive turnover of personnel that work at DCF. Not unusual to see new faces every other time you show up to shoot. My guess is that most, if not all of these problems lie at the foot of "upper management". Sorry I can't have better things to say. read more

I recently attended a self defense and home defense class at this place, which was very good. I had never been to this place and was surprised how big it is. There is a store in the front and classrooms and a range in the back. Super friendly staff, acknowledging people right away when you come in and asking if you need assistance. The best gun store in the Springs!!! If you want to take firearms training seriously, ask for Andy Tran at DCF West, he conducts tactical Tuesdays. He teaches all levels and will for sure get you the proper training that suits you. He also is a great salesman, selling me my first suppressor! Stay far far away! We were members at Whistling Pines since the first day they opened. Whistling Pines was member only and had a country club feeling. The prices reflected the amount paid in the membership each year, and you were never worried about the person shooting in the lane next to you having some sort of mishap. Along comes DCF... When DCF purchased Whistling Pines the quality of customer service instantly went away. The prices almost doubled, and the member is treated like any public shooter. Every time we go shoot, there is a worry that the person next to you might accidentally shoot you or someone at the range. The first time I tried to get a new part on a firearm installed, I was told about 1 week to get it done. After 3 weeks I called to check in, and we told directly by the gunsmith "tell me who told you it would take 1 week and I will have it done today. Otherwise you're waiting another 3 weeks". After raising this with the staff no one cared. It was not even reported to management. I even called the Castle Rock location to let them know what happened and never got any response. Just recently my membership card was not returned to me after shooting, a common occurrence at Whistling Pines, and the next time they would kindly just give your card back. I went to shoot at DCF West and said my card was not returned last time, and the employee working instantly got upset and accused me of forgetting it. She asked for the name on my card and then threw the container of lost cards on the counter. I was then told "get your card and get out". Both my shooting buddy and I were shocked and asked for clarification, and all the said was "get out". We asked to speak to the manger and she responded "you're looking at her. Get your card and get out". This was NEVER the way I was treated at Whistling Pines for over 15 years. We drove all the way across town to the other location just to be confronted by the General Manager for how we were "kicked out" of the location. Never would I have thought that Whistling Pines would have sold out to such a horribly managed company. They overcharge, don't care about their members, and have lost the way Whistling Pines created a country club experience. Whistling Pines members use to receive a few free guest passes each year that never expired, valued at about $10 each. DCF no longer honors them. They "only bought the buildings and the inventory. Not Whistling Pines". DCF employees now work on commission, and are focused more on selling products than checking in a member who just wants to shoot at the range. They have also packed so much inventory into the store that it feels like they only want you to purchase their products. Whistling Pines excelled at making the range their competitive advantage, and now DCF has no competitive advantage. Magnum has better ranges and classes, Scheels has better prices, and Specialty Sports has better selection. If you only get one thing away from this review - just know - that EVERY single whistling Pines employee quit... every single person (*except Mel and she is the only reason I will work with DCF. she is actually a great help). When you acquire a brand with two locations, and EVERY single employee leaves... you have a problem. I hope every Whistling Pine member reading this leaves too, you deserve better. read more

So far my husband and I love having a membership at this club. *You can rent almost any gun they have in the case which is great to be able to try so many out. *They have special ladies nights and ladies classes. *The people who work there are super duper nice and knowledgable. *Bathrooms are clean and well maintained. *Comfy leather couches and deck area. *The targets are all mechanical/computerized and you can do fun things with them. *Bring your own ammo or buy theirs. *They have tons of classes and leagues too. read more
