I have been to other counselors and this was by far the worst group of counselors, I actually felt that they were dangerous for vulnerable people that really need help because they were so unprofessional and incompetent. The counselor at Bowie Youth & Family Services made my post traumatic stress so much worse. What did I learn from Bowie Youth & Family Services? That I will never waste my time counseling again, and won't recommend them to anybody.

Also their location can be a bit tricky to find but the main door is off Keswick Rd (and is stroller friendly). Walk in past the dress shop and bare to the right. There's a big parking lot in the back.

That way you end up inadvertently meeting the different doulas. We went with Cara. She has a ton of experience and super chill vibe. Our hospital was not allowing extra visitors due to COVID so we signed up for a virtual doula service. She met with us a few times before the birth to review questions, birth plan, and provide support. She was also available via email for random questions that came up in between. The day of my labor I reached out to her as needed and she guided me through some of the decisions we had to make. Her support made it so that I could better advocate for myself and my baby during my labor. She was 100% supportive of all my decisions and in the end I ended up having a beautiful and quick birth. I am so happy we got a doula and recommend it to anyone no matter what type of brith you are planning on having. I found the groups to be more helpful towards the beginning of my pregnancy, especially as it was a time that COVID was just ramping up. The only issue is that the people in group vary from week to week. I think it would be nice to be able to connect with the same group from week to week so there is some continuity.

Yes, their nursing program was over-saturated (too many applicants, not enough advisors), but it ran like a well-oiled machine regardless. In my current school, my advisor registered me late and almost signed me up for a course I'd already taken, which I had to find out for myself halfway through the semester. They didn't depend on me to supervise every step of every transition like switching majors the way other universities do. Soooo much information is available in your student portal that I almost never had to step foot in the admin hall (though as a new student, navigating their sites was like entering a labyrinth). I was shocked to learn having a waiting list was not a universal thing and they actually notify you once a spot opens, as opposed to my current school who makes you log in and check several times a day... every day... and then still gives unspecific error messages. They use Canvas which has SIGNIFICANTLY less issues than Blackboard. Yes, I have had some troublesome professors but every issue was handled beautifully by the administration, and even so it only came to this point twice. Some of the best teachers I've ever had the blessing to encounter are tucked away in here. I miss my professors, my peers, the atmosphere, I miss everything! I'm honestly considering dropping my Bachelor's just to go back to PGCC and finish my ADN. When it comes to college, bigger is not always better. PG is not perfect but they were deemed best school in MD to get your RN for a reason.

I'd say the education is great here but do your own research for degree program info, scholarships and etc!!! After having a C-section with my first birth, I knew I wanted a doula for my second pregnancy. My first birth had felt like something that just happened to me, and this time, I wanted a different experience. When I went past my due date, Lauren gave me the reassurance and confidence I desperately needed. When I felt hopeless, she gave me hope. Her recommendations and introduction to Faith were invaluable in helping me go into labor. She held space for me to make my own decisions. She had the confidence and experience I needed as I prepared for a VBAC. During labor, she helped me move through different positions to encourage my baby's descent. She provided hands-on support and, when I needed it, tough love. I couldn't have asked for a better person to be there in the moments after the most empowering experience of my life. She also looked out for my partner which I really appreciated, ensuring he ate and rested. Afterwards we also used Jenn's overnight doula services to care for our infant and she was just as fantastic with him. Not only did we get a good night's rest when she was here (priceless), we also felt so supported with learning about newborn care and dealing with all of the emotional aspects of becoming parents. Joya was a Godsend! Being pregnant during the pandemic was incredibly taxing and I wanted to set…read moremyself up for success in the 4th trimester when we brought our daughter home. We knew because of COVID we wouldn't have the hands on support from loved ones that new parents need and there are truly no words to describe how much Joya's support meant to me. We initially booked a mix of day and night sessions the first 6 weeks and ended up extending until I went back to work at 12 weeks because I wasn't ready to let her go! The overnight sessions meant this exhausted mama could sleep, something that was so foreign those first few weeks. And while for a brief moment it seemed like a true luxury, it was actually an investment in my health and healing from labor and delivery which ended in an emergency c-section. Joya helped me get the most ideal latch and hold the c-section (maneuvering baby around incision was tough), maintain a robust supply and also build a decent stash in the freezer. When my supply dipped she helped me get it right back up. Because we didn't have access to in person childcare classes, I had quit a bit of anxiety about bringing baby home that I didn't expect since I had so much hands on experience with my Godchildren. Joya eased my first bath anxiety because I was worried I'd either make the water too hot and hurt her or too cold and make her uncomfortable, she showed us how to help baby receive gas, as gas was the culprit in our hardest nights, and even organized her room in a way that made middle of the night diaper (and sometimes clothing) changes easier. Most helpful of all her support was establishing good sleep habits and routines with our daughter that i'm sure will be life long if we keep up with her suggestions. At 3mos, she's slept through the night 4 times, so I think we're on the cusp of consistent restful nights ourselves! This was critical for me because sleep plays a huge factor in their development, behavior and overall wellness. Our baby is HARD to put down - sometimes we rock her for nearly 30 minutes - but has gotten easier over time the more we stick with tips from Joya. I felt like I had a shoulder to lean on in Joya, I felt seen and heard and no question seemed too small to ask. We only know what we know as first time parents and she gently and honestly offered her best guidance. I miss her already!!! The ladies gave us such a good lesson that we didn't hesitate to call them and get a contract in place for Labor and Delivery and Post Partum support. Best decision ever! From the time they take you on as a client, they were very responsive and support in a truly non-judgy way. Unlike pushy family members and in-laws, they offered all the advice and options you want and they coach you into deciding for yourself what is best for you and your baby. They coached me as well as my husband on the various options (and there are LOTS!) and while they were in the delivery room, they reminded me of what I wanted and prevented the hospital from pushing me around. If you are on the fence about getting a Doula, I highly recommend meeting with them and finding out what they do. They anticipated needs that I needed before I even knew I needed them, and were there to provide them to when WHEN I needed it. They do so much more than you would expect.
