In addition to preparing for such a heavy subject, all you need is EUR 15, an ABC transportation pass, and your walking shoes. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Mosaic is rather new to the tour game, so our group was small (9 people) allowing for an intimate and interactive tour. Judging by other tours at Sachsenhausen, the average group size is around 30-40 making it tough for hearing and questioning. I learned more than I can ever hope to remember and felt that all the information was given with no political bias (important!). We covered the entire Memorial and were given plenty of bio-breaks and opportunities for photos. If you are going to do a non-self-guided tour of Sachsenhausen, go with Mosaic for a wealth of information and also a good feeling about where your money is going.

Going into this experience, we knew it was going to be a very reflective day, and frankly, wasn't part of our trip that we were really excited for, but it was well worth the journey. We chose Mosaic because they were non-profit. Without the option, I probably wouldn't even have thought of it, but it does feel better to pay for a tour knowing that the money is going to charity. We were in a group of 15 which was a good size for this trip. We made the trip to Oranienburg via public transportation (note that isn't covered by your booking fee for the tour) in just about an hour and then we had a 20 minute or so walk to the camp through the town. Our tour guide, Joanna, was great. She is full of information, clearly has a great depth of knowledge about this site and its role in history, and also was very adept at presenting such a sensitive subject in a meaningful way. The camp itself is larger than I expected, be ready to walk. We got a very good feel for the magnitude of history that occurred at the site. The tour focused on the use of the camp by the Nazis and not the use by the Soviets, as that would have been too much to cover in the time we had. Definitely heed the advice to bring water and a snack.

We listened to the directions in English and learned quite a bit. We saw much more of the city than we would've if we had walked. At the end of the day, the bus stops abruptly at whatever stop they've reached. Ours was far from where we wanted to go because of traffic and construction in the city. We spoke to the driver and he was heading in the direction, so he cleared the bus but allowed us to stay on until our destination. We were so appreciative because of the pouring rain!! The buses were clean and the headphones hooked up easily. We've never done a tour like this, but will in the future.

City Circle was recommended by our hotel. We were however very disappointed. First, we found out after buying the tickets that due to a marathon, several stops were to be bypassed. We dropped off at an early point on the tour walked around for a few minutes and then returned to the stop. It took 30 minutes for the next bus to arrive. The employee at the stop knew nothing about when to expect another bus. When it arrived, there were no seats so we stood and could not listen to the headset. At the next stop, we got off and waited for another--this bus sped through four stops so we had to get off and walk back to the boat tour. The boat tour was not marked and we had to search it out. Boat tour was lovely with an attentive crew. We then waited again for another bus so one more stop and the tour day was over. It was expensive, poorly run. so for Berlin--get on the great train/subway system and take your phone! Avoid these folks.

Martina was our tour guide for Tour M and she was engaging, knowledgeable, friendly and fun! She made the tour interesting and was happy to answer any and all questions. They offer a bunch of different tours which cover different topics/aspects "Underground Berlin". We chose Tour M because it focused on the history of the Berlin Wall which we were interested in knowing more about, but there are other tours available that focus on other aspects, such as bunkers, WWII, etc. Be sure to read through what's available before you schedule your tour to ensure that you're signed up for the topic that interests you most. My husband and I had very little knowledge of the Berlin Wall and the history behind it prior to this tour. We left feeling incredibly informed yet hunger for more knowledge! Martina recommended a few movies and documentaries to watch for more information about the wall and we fully intend to watch them when we get back home. Thanks for an interesting and enjoyable experience! Next time we're in Berlin, we'll come back to experience a different tour with you.

I was wearing shorts and a small long sleeve which really didn't make me feel comfortable because this place is seriously seriously cold. So be warned bring a jacket when you come here because the whole tour is literally under the streets of Berlin! The guide we got was not from Germany but from another country and spoke English quite well. The place is filled with many cool things to see and also the glow in the dark room is pretty awesome. I didn't even know they invented that kind of thng so long ago! Very factual tour and with many photos and items that are from that time period. Yes we aren't allowed to take pictures soo they can keep all these items for the next generation! I'm glad I actually went to this place and got to listen to this tour. It is a little bit long but if you have time check this place out, I really loved it and you probably will if you want to see what would happen if the bunkers.

From the Berlin Hauptbahnhof, we had to take a 15-minute taxi to get this to hotel, but honestly, being near major sights is a highlight of this hotel. We booked our rooms through Expedia and were able to check in no problem. Our room was on the 5th floor, which is one of the designated "Quiet Floors." I tell you, this floor was definitely quiet. Our room had a king-sized bed and each side had its own small comforter for each person, which was perfect as my husband tends to hog the sheets. The bathroom was also spacious and had ample counter space for our toiletries. The room was also clean, except for the room phone had dust and caked up gunk in the receiver, but for the most part, everything else about the room was clean. The breakfast buffet was from 6:30am to 11am every day. We paid extra to have the breakfast buffet, and the options were pretty extensive: yogurts, cut veggies, cut fruit, breads, jams, an assortment of teas, a coffee machine, fruit juices, meats, eggs, hash browns. Everything is self-serve aside from the area where you can order freshly-cooked eggs. You had the option of ordering either eggs Benedict, poached, or scrambled and adding veggies and some meats. There were very few vegan options available like almond milk and cereal, however. Since I follow a more dairy-free diet, I stuck to eating more heartier breakfast items. My family looked forward to eating breakfast every morning because it was so good. Also, the eating area was immaculate and the staff were always diligent in taking your empty plates. Outside/next to the hotel, there is a barsturaunt, which always had many patrons. There is also designated taxi parking right in front of the entrance, so you will not have to wait long to get a taxi. My parents were able to get free bathrobes from the front desk and use the sauna. They said the sauna was consistently at the perfect temperature every night they used it. Overall, when we return to Berlin, this will be our choice of hotel again.
