I would truthfully rate this place a 7/10 or 3.5/5 but am feeling generous to round up. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles - the chicken itself was pretty good and juicy, but the hollandaise sauce for me was a miss - it was heavy, tasted mayo-y, and the flavour combined with the other sauces (buffalo and thousand island?) just didn't work well together. The hash was quite dry and flavourless. The portion size was good though! The breakfast skillet with chorizo was pretty decent - nothing to write home about and on the smaller side portion wise. Others in my party ordered the breakfast poutine and it was MASSIVE (no one was able to finish it). Service was friendly and courteous. Prices are also very reasonable. read more

Daytona's - s'mores pavlova yum - Caterers Near Me - Thunder Bay, Ontario

Great food and drinks. Ambiance a bit lacking. Kind of in an industrial part of town.

Daytona's was basically my first impression of Thunder Bay. I met up with a local friend and told them "just take me some place you like." I wanted to see what T-Bay had to offer. I'm a fan. Casual environment, chatty servers, nice open dining area where you don't feel trapped and claustrophobic. My friend suggested the mozza sticks, and being as I'm a native to Cheeseland, USA, I put on my most judicious (and douchey) reviewer hat. They're actually enormous, but they've managed to make them big without leaving a block of unmelted cheese in the middle (+1!) or burning them. Props. I had the garlic steak sandwich. I was so caught up in conversation with my friend that I basically just looked down and ordered the first thing I saw. I'm happy enough with my choice. The goat cheese is a nice, tame flavor to take the back seat to the steak. I'm generally not a big ranch guy, but it worked well with the garlic flavors and kinda had an aioli thing going for it. The one down side is that the sandwich was impossible to hold together. They slice the steak on a bias and reassemble it in the sandwich. That means the sandwich has no structural base and falls all apart in your hands. It also means that when you take a bite, an entire strip of steak comes with you, so your next bite has no steak. The steak is cooked tender enough (at a medium rare, at least) that it doesn't need to be cut apart. The whole sandwich would have better structural integrity, I think, if they skipped that step. That's a very minor nitpick, though. Altogether, great sandwich, good time. I wouldn't gripe about returning if I came back to Thunder Bay. read more

We made a day trip to Thunder Bay on a whim, having done very little research of the area before-hand. To give context, this is four early-20-something's from the heart of the Twin Cities arriving in Thunder Bay with out any idea of what to expect. The lovely staff at the hotel (TownePlace Suites Mariott, which is just around the corner) recommended Daytona's as they do all of their catering for the hotel. We would have never found it on our own. We arrived for a late dinner and the space, which reminds me of a bar event space was fairly empty save a few tables and some sort of party going on in the back (which looked really fun, and that space looked really cool!). If you're looking for on-trend and high-class, this isn't it, but the space is cozy enough and clean. We just ordered a few beers (local of course) and some poutine to dshare. We were not disappointed in the HUGE portions of poutine, and wished we only would have gotten one .The poutine was extremely authentic (no deep fried cheese here). We got the porkbelly poutine, which was good - IF you like pork belly. All around a good experience! read more

This has become a regular favourite for us. A very nice local restaurant with good food and friendly service. Nothing fancy, but the food is delicious. There are a variety of menu choices with a gourmet spin on many of them. Many dishes use locally sourced ingredients and portion sizes won't leave you hungry. Just down home good!! Try it, you'll like it. read more

We were staying in Thunder Bay and looking for something that wasn't a chain. The concierge at our hotel recommended Daytonas. I'm happy that she did! We have two children who were with us and their kids menu was perfect for what they wanted. The regular menu was large without being overwhelming . If you happen to stop in, try the lobster grilled cheese! read more

Different than what I expected. The food is really good, especially the burgers. There is some creativity on the menu, and it is a very friendly place. The company also supports a lot of charity groups, which is great. read more
