It's like Whole Foods! With the price tag to match!…read more You know how they refer to Whole Foods affectionately as 'Whole Paycheck?' Well, similarly -- As Nature Intended (me to be broke). I suppose. This mini-chain is very similar to my favored "The Grocery" up on Kingsland Road but I just so happen to be down by Spitalfields often enough that I've popped in to this market a few times for the (not-so) essentials. Let's face it, it's a bleak state of affairs down Commercial Street at Tesco Local. I can't even bring myself to go in there. The amount of plastic wrapping and pre-packaged foods just makes me want to barf, no joke. I just can't most of the time, I'd rather go anywhere else. So yes, while As Nature Intended is a bit pricier -- it's also a LOT nicer, has WAY better food things in it and if I want to pay 100 quid for a bag of (basically) snacks, so it shall be done. Sometimes one just wants to feel wholesome, right? Yes. Of particular interest here is their health and beauty section -- well stocked and comprehensive. They carry REN, which I adore and also full range of Wedela which I buy often for the little person in our house. The soups are great, and they have CO-YO (coconut milk yogurt) which is my favorite thing of 2015 thus far. Staff is friendly. You'll be broke but you'll be happy. Good organic food stuffs up in here.

I LOVE this shop it is probably my favourite on earth and as they say outside their shop "Wealth is…read morewell and truly health". It is fully stocked with healthy foods and goodies to help you get through the week and help you to feel like an amazing human being. To add the staff are super friendly and delightful whenever I visit, always displaying a smile on their face and asking if any help is required (it is always the small gestures that count). I can literally spend near to an hour browsing the nut butters, chocolate aisle and fruit pantry, and last but not least - they even provide a sink for you to wash your fruit and veg if you wish to consume it straight away. Also, if you are lucky you may be greeted with a sample of peanut butter or other tasty snack to help you through your shop. If you're a true foodie and health and fitness fiend like me, you'll fall in love with this place!

First impressions were great - the menu looked interesting and prices about standard for this genteel, leafy back street of Peckham (more akin to East Dulwich's Lordship Lane than grotty Rye Lane just up the road). The sun was beating down so we happily sat outside, amused by the sounds coming from the dog grooming parlour next door. Leave it! Off! Leave it! No waitress appeared so we went inside to make our order direct to the man in the kitchen, who I think may also be the owner. He was very pleasant and my coffee came out pretty quickly, with the food arriving a little while after. The beans on toast looked very appetizing, cooked with either green peppers or green beans which made it a bit more special (and slightly more worth the £3.50 cost). The Buljol and Rootsy breakfasts looked modestly sized for the £6.50 price tag, but had a good mix of components. I had the Rootsy and was disappointed that the homemade vegan sausage was in fact just a few small, dry chunks of sausage mixture rather than the succulent, traditionally-shaped sausage I was hoping for. The scrambled tofu was nice but relatively tasteless, bearing a striking resemblance to what was meant to be ackee in my friend's Buljol plate. She ate hers too quickly for me to check if it was the same thing - mine didn't taste of ackee though, strange! Strangely my toast was served with wraps of butter on the side - you'd expect that anywhere else but it was a very weird feature in a place with the word vegan on the sign. I left pleased to have visited Grass Roots to sample and support but bemoaning the fact that the only place to get a hearty vegan breakfast is still Brighton, miffed that the experience had put me out £6.50 yet interested to return for other food and cakes some time. A good breakfast can be hard to find but I'm willing to wager Grass Roots does a very fine lunch. Incidentally, a lock on the toilet door would be much appreciated!

Vegan burgers, breakfast, stir frys etc. Yeah it was a tad expensive but I guess the rent in Bellenden Road ain't cheap and a South London vegan place is something I'm willing to give a bit more money to.

I would like you to avoid this company and I will not recommend to order from this company. I am…read morefirst time buyer but not new to organic vegetables home delivery. I ordered first time from Abel & Cole and I received 50% of my 1st & 4th order, however there was another offer for £10 off the first 3 orders. For some reason the first offer was accepted and suddenly became not available when came to final charge. Later on the day of delivery I left clear instructions for driver to deliver to main property corridor (inside) and leave it in front of Flat 1 door. The driver left my four boxes on the street without noticing me or letting me know as I am first time buyer. On top of it my fruit box was not ready, so driver Bart decided to pack it to someone's else box with different name on the box and left it open on top of the rest of the boxes on the public street. When I contacted Abel & Cole about the delivery and missing items (eggs) the customer service contacted driver and he confirmed that he left the eggs there and that someone might help themselves to take them... I just could not believe this explanation and delivery style. I regularly order from Riverford and Milk&More but I did not have this kind of experience at all. They refunded the money at the end after my phone call, but all this looks to me very tricky from the discount codes "promotion" up to the delivery style.

I've been using Abel & Cole for 4 years as I decided to start a keto diet to manage my diabetes and…read moredidn't want to buy supermarket veg filled with sugar and chemicals. Their site is reasonably easy to use and you can buy individual items rather than a pre-set box or exclude certain items. They also offer some interesting meat, fish and larder items. However, they don't care at all about your custom. During covid, they dropped the option to exclude items or order individual items, and you could only order their pre-set boxes (filled with heavy starchy carb). More recently they have decided to only deliver to me before 7am and are refusing to change the time. I've had deliveries sent to my office between 9am and 1pm for 4 years, but since my 20-year-old secretary has left suddenly the driver can't come after 7am. All my items (including unrefrigerated milk) was left outside the building for 2 hrs, which I did not authorise. Their answer is to leave the box with a neighbour (this is a business park) or take my custom elsewhere...the excuse is that they care too much about their carbon footprint to return to a reasonable hour, which they managed to do for 4 years before (but don't care about collecting 3 weeks of boxes they are so proud to recycle.) Given they are one of the most expensive organic veg suppliers around, and that other sites like Eversfield and Riverford, are not only expanding their ranges but also offer much more flexible delivery, take your money elsewhere. Apparently they won't miss it.
