The lure of driving around Lake Michigan seemed like a bright idea, besides, I always wanted to do a little 'Economic research' and explore why Hurley Wisconsin has "the most strip clubs per capita in the United States!" Arriving on a Monday, I come to learn of the seven strip clubs in Hurley, only one is open through the week and that's the Idle Hour Saloon. Now I hadn't been to a strip club in some time, but at least there wasn't a cover charge at the door and the drinks weren't watered down to the point of four parts water to every part of whiskey as is often the case at higher-end clubs. Drink prices were actually cheap in my opinion, but I'm not a local to Hurley and bar sells a number of humorous t-shirts to make the visit that much more memorable. The entertainers at Idle Hour were actually more approachable and talkative than I have experienced at other clubs. All and all, a great experience, especially on a Monday, again doing "economic research." I'm looking forward to my next visit to Hurley and the Idle Hour Saloon, but next time will be on the weekend!

This bar has been around in one form or another since 1887, and that is impressive. The Globe…read morenewspaper informed us that Olkie's was celebrating its 125th anniversary on the same night that my mom and I were in town, so we had to stop in. My earliest recollection of Olkie's is from 2000, when my family took a trip to Ironwood. It looked then from the outside that is was about to fall down, and that hasn't changed. The crumbling outside, however, is not indicative of the wonderful hospitality found inside the bar. Olkie's is run by a husband and wife team, Bob and June, along with their daughter. Bob told us they have run the bar for 14 years. The beer specials were amazing and the service was swift. I even won a drawing that rewarded me with an Olkie's ballcap. My mom and I had some 125th anniversary cake and enjoyed some great music and conversation. I highly recommed Olkie's bar if you are in or passing through Ironwood, Michigan. It is a historic site that has survived through the years, and I hope it makes it another 125 years.
