I brought in one of my hubs from a travel trailer and had asked to have them put new races and bearings and that i would like it turned since there was plenty of rust and pitting. I was told that the bearings and races are good and they would just repack the old bearings and put the new rear seal in. no problem.
when I went to pick up the hub it was on the floor by entrance. I picked it up and found out it hadnt been turned and the grooves and rust was still there.
I asked why the hub had not been cleaned up and the guy said he could call Bob if i wanted. I said no thanks and paid the $135.00 to have the rear seal put in and old bearings repacked.
Im sure that no rocks or debris found its way into the greased bearings by the entrance of the door.
Two days later I went to another trailer supply and service center nearby and found out that I could get a new hub with prepacked bearings and everything for $97 total. I asked about the surface where the magnet brake rides and was told that the old one needed to be cleaned up because of the rust, pitting and grooves. I actually went in to have it turned and just new bearings.
I will be going back and replacing the $135 hub I just had packed with the new seal with another new hub with bearings cheaper than 5 minute pack and 4 minute seal install I had done 2 days earlier.
