Additionally, the attraction does not recognize Gold Star families, which was especially disheartening after my friend--who lost her loved one in active duty--was also turned away. I strongly encourage management to reconsider this policy, as these families have made profound sacrifices and deserve recognition. We attended on opening night and waited approximately three hours in line. While some wait time is expected, better organization could greatly improve the experience. There were fun moments--music, light interaction, and themed characters--but compared to a competitor we visited the night before (which featured a full fall festival and concert guests could enjoy while waiting), the overall setup here felt less engaging and far less efficient. There was also a bar halfway through the line, but guests were not informed during ticketing that a green wristband was required to purchase drinks. After standing in line for hours, many people were understandably frustrated when they discovered this too late. Clearer communication would easily fix this issue. The "Bates Motel" and "Camp Crystal Lake" sets were the standout features in terms of design and atmosphere. However, the actor performances lacked coordination and consistency--several repeated the same handful of lines, and some of the scariest characters weren't even in their designated themed areas. One performer in particular, a female clown with black and white hair, blew an air horn directly into my mother's and my ears at close range, causing immediate ringing and a migraine that lingered for hours. That kind of proximity-based scare tactic poses legitimate safety concerns and should be addressed immediately. Furthermore, the terrain was uneven and poorly lit, with unexpected drops and steps that posed a hazard, especially for elderly guests. Adding proper signage, lighting, or a simple warning at the entrance would help prevent potential injuries. Overall, while there were moments of entertainment and strong visual effects, the experience did not align with the ticket price or expectations.

Interestingly enough there are private residences mixed in as well. OK, so maybe it's really not incredibly riveting but it's still kinda interesting to see how early American life played out for Moravian, Black, and Indigenous peoples that lived in the South. A few of the buildings had docents in period dress relating the history of the particular house (some of these require separate admission tickets) or demonstrating their trades. For instance, we passed by a gunsmith's shop with a working craftsman inside, but it cost to go in. The whole area includes the Historic Town of Salem, the Gardens at Old Salem, the Frank L. Horton Museum Center, and the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) and is a few blocks from Winston-Salem's main downtown area, so probably best to park at the lot of the Museum/Gallery/visitor center and walk across the very cool Old Salem Covered Bridge to the village. We didn't have time to see all the grounds - which by the way, also have the site of the Original Site of Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop, which we did see, and were hugely disappointed by. It ain't nothing but an empty lot. But if you like old stuff like I do, you'll dig Old Salem even if you just go for half an hour. Plus it's mostly free.

I didn't know about it, and didn't have a specific reason to seek it, until this past Sunday when I saw some posts from a couple of Yelpers about a celebration happening there for the Thai, Lao, and Cambodian New Year, also referred to as the Khmer New Year. It was a beautiful spring day, the mood looked festive, and there appeared to be some interesting tasty food available, so I said why not?! I hopped in the car and drove down to Lexington. Turns out this place wasn't to hard to find. Once you make the left turn the large entryway proclaiming "Lexington Buddhist Temple" cannot be missed, dragon guardians and all. I was greeted by a lush green campus, spotted by various colorful buildings all painted with vibrant colors. People were everywhere laughing, dancing, eating, drinking, and just generally having a happy time. Many were casual but others were dressed in some very fancy clothing befitting of a new year's celebration! The band was playing and setting a great mood, and many people lined up in front of the stage for what appeared to be some pretty well coordinated line dancing. Elsewhere on the grounds, you could find kids participating in various field games like tug of war and sack races. Some were playing basketball on a pretty worn down court in the back, and there was a playground too. Then, you meet the huge line of pop up tents selling all sorts of foods and drinks. The sights and smells draw you right to it. I got some papaya salad (spicy), some Lao sausage, and some beef skewers and found a seat near the dancing area to enjoy. Everything was so succulent. Papaya salad is one of my favorite things and this one certainly had a fresh kick! The Lao sausage had a plethora of spices and really set off the flavors of the papaya salad. The beef skewer was tender and just the slightest bit sweet, it was all enjoyable. I ate my food and just enjoyed taking in all the positive energy of this place. On my way out, i came upon a pair of buddhist monks blessing people and giving them bracelets. I had a lovely time on their grounds, I decided to leave a donation and get a blessing of my own. I bowed my head and they chanted in a language that I myself could not understand as they used a flower to sprinkle water over me. They then said in English "Happy New Year!" and I was on my way, bracelet on wrist, belly full of happy, and feeling very fulfilled. It was a great way to spend a Sunday, taking in the sights and vibrance of a culture that was before only somewhat familiar to me. I hope to go next year with some friends who know more than can help bring me up to speed on exactly what is going on!

I've been going to the Cambodian Cultural Center since I was very young. They have improved so much…read moresince the Cambodian Community of Lexington purchased this location. They have a reception hall for weddings, church service and dancing when Cambodian bands come to town. Monks live in the house located across from the ponds. I usually come to the cultural center during Cambodian New Year. Cambodian New Year is held in April. Unfortunately, it usually rains and the area gets filthy muddy. Vendors from the community come and sell delicious food. Live music is being played all day along with dancing, and games are usually being played. On Sunday's of the New Year church service is held in the reception hall. Donations are appreciated, which goes towards the center. There is no real parking lot. Mostly just field and you just park yourself in rows. The bathrooms are out of date but are usable. Basketball courts and playgrounds for children are available as well as a Volleyball net. The Cambodian Cultural Center still needs some improvement but time will tell when it'll get done. It's a nice place to enjoy during special events.

We like specific old things and have our small collections…read more When we moved to North Carolina, my wife started researching place to go to hunt for new treasures. Luckily, she works with a few ladies that also love antiques and they told her about the Liberty Antiques Festival. We found out the Festival is held the last week of September and April of each year and has been voted the best antiques show in the mid-Atlantic region. The Festival is held on Pike Family Farm, a 100-acre farm near downtown Liberty. Admission is $10 per adult and children 12 and under are free, parking is also free. We arrived about 11:15am on Saturday morning and were impressed to see how organized the parking and entry area was. We quickly paid our admission fee and began to browse through the many vendor areas that were neatly arranged. We were also happy to see they had lots of places to purchase a cold water, use the restroom and even buy some food. While we were there we indulged in the homemade apple fritters and peach ice cream. We ended up buying a few items for our home and really enjoyed ourselves. We are looking forward to the next one in late April 2023!

You can find all level of antiques here from a few dollars to thousands. Not every vendor is ready to deal but many many are. I have been here more than 5 times and I always leave with something I had to have that I never found in the wild before. There are a few sprinklings of repos throughout but not a lot. This is not a flea market. $7 per person to get in but free parking. Come early - it's over by 5 PM both days. This year I bought a early 1900s microscope a trade stimulator and a bunch of stereo cards and metal advertising signs. Last time I got a pedal car and a vintage vending machine. Never know what you may find. Food on site but only porta johns for bathrooms. I come here every festival. Check it out!

A Greensboro Classic, Fun for Kids and Adults Alike!…read more I've attended a few of the adult-only events (On-Tap, 90s Night) and a couple of standard visits to the Miriam P. Brenner Children's Museum, and they are always such a treat! It's so much fun to explore the exhibits without kids around and enjoy the playful, creative atmosphere. The museum was the first children's museum in the Triad and still features some of its original exhibits -- including the iconic big red chair, which is a total photo favorite! During regular hours, the museum is perfect for kids ages 0-12, with hands-on learning and interactive play spaces that spark curiosity and imagination. But my personal favorite -- the Neptune Climber XXL -- is definitely for all ages! It's an amazing structure that brings out everyone's inner child. I mean it is 2 stories high. The staff is friendly, the events are well-organized, and the museum continues to be a special part of Greensboro. Whether you're bringing little ones or attending an adult night, this place never fails to bring smiles and good memories.

There is also a pretend grocery store, pizza parlor, play house, construction site and doctors office. The toddler area allows free play for littles and is enclosed. Another section of the museum also has a water station. Outside you'll find a garden with a mud kitchen, fruits and vegetables, as well as a chicken coop. The additional outdoor section is a massive climbing area with ropes for dayzzzz. The staff is so friendly and they just started implementing a frequent visitor pass. I believe after 5 visits you get free admission. You can get a punch card at the front desk. I thought that was neat, and also encourages families to visit again. It's the least stimulating museum we've visited and much more enjoyable than the Kaladieum in Winston salem which has TV's and screens everywhere. Though this museum is geared towards a younger crowd, it's nice that parents have a place to bring children that sparks imagination, creativity and can be a break from the constant exposure of electronics that younger kids are so often drawn towards.

It was challenging but not too hard. My son loved the apple cannon. The wagon ride is fun but be prepared to wait since it is a small wagon and very popular. They have food trucks if you want to stay and eat lunch. Pumpkin prices were reasonable and you could even pick one from the field.
