I even convinced my teen boys to take pictures, so you know it was a good set up! There was plenty of parking and the different areas were spread out enough for an easy flow. Very festive! Thanks to Councilmember Louis Reinstein for the recommendation. See you next year!

In front of City Hall is always my favorite place to catch the annual Fourth of July parade. City Hall was even featured in the opening scene of the comedy There's Something About Mary when it doubled for Cumberland High School in Rhode Island where Ben Stiller's Ted first spots Cameron Diaz's Mary. As beautiful as Plantation City Hall is, it is never grander than in December when it is trimmed in lights, garland, and wreaths, and serves as the backdrop for Plantation's holiday decorations. Young and old are enthralled with the huge Christmas trees, photo op in front of a gingerbread house, and multiple lighted decorations across both sides of the lawn. The standout feature of the display is a large, open castle frame strung with candy colored lights that children enjoy running through. I love that the City of Plantation sets this display up for the community to enjoy every holiday season.

Nestled in…read morea quiet corner of Miramar along a lake, this picturesque library is a haven for knowledge seekers. The Miramar Branch Library was born from a partnership between the City of Miramar, Broward County, Broward College, and Nova Southeastern University. It was conceived as a place in the Town Center where people could be educated and participate in a variety of programs. The library was completed in 2008 on a 4 acre parcel of land deeded by the City of Miramar. The ambiance of the library is welcoming and conducive to a peaceful reading and studying environment. The first floor library boasts a spacious and well-organized layout, making it easy to navigate through the extensive collection of books. The shelves are neatly arranged, and the variety of genres available caters to a diverse range of interests. The library collection includes 100,000 items. There is a multipurpose room that can host 100 people, tutoring rooms, study rooms, a conference room, 100 computer stations, wireless hot spots, a storytelling and program room, drive up book return, space for Friends of the Library, and public art by Robert Calvo. The second floor is used by Broward College and the third floor belongs to Nova Southeastern University. The librarians are knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to assist patrons in finding the right book or resource. Their passion for literature and commitment to promoting a love for reading is evident in their interactions. The Miramar Branch Library offers a plethora of resources beyond books, including a computer section with high-speed internet access, making it an excellent place for research and study. The comfortable seating areas provide a quiet space for reading or working on personal projects. One aspect that particularly impressed me was the library's commitment to community engagement. They regularly host events, book clubs, and educational programs for all age groups. These initiatives foster a sense of community and intellectual growth among the library's patrons. The Miramar Branch Library has adapted well to the digital age, offering e-books and online resources alongside its traditional collection. This forward-thinking approach ensures that patrons have access to a wealth of information in various formats. I love how this library fosters a love for literature, a commitment to education, and welcoming atmosphere making it a standout destination for bibliophiles and learners alike. I highly recommend a visit to this library for anyone seeking a quiet place to read, study, or simply immerse themselves in the world of knowledge.

When she learned about a certain bookstore, she ditched the library in favor of creating her own library . We have 3 large bookcases full of books that we purchased for her throughout her years. When she asked for a fourth bookcase, we had to consider retirement and told her to feed her need for books through the help of a library. So, here we are. Book card in hand and a new adventure. The staff was incredible. I felt welcomed and comfortable from the time I stepped in. Everyone had a friendly smile. I was offered help but various employees. They were knowledgeable. They point me right to the area I needed to be. The parking was a little complicated. The library shares parking with the other city buildings. Everyone parks all around. There was not enough parking spots.

The only thing you would have to worry about is the $1.00 fine they charge each day for each item that is overdue. I like the fact with having a library account, I can go on the website and check out any new book, CD, and DVD release. If the Hollywood branch does not have the item I want, I can put the item on hold and if there's a copy of that item available at any other Broward library, it will be sent to the library of my choice for pickup. There is no limit on the amount of books or CD's to borrow (2-3 weeks), but if you want to borrow DVD's, the limit is 10 (1 week). Besides borrowing books, CD's, and DVD's, the library also provides bus passes, faxes, copying and printing (15 cents each). They have four sections of computers for adults, teens, and young children. You have to first reserve a computer, which gives you a 60 minute session. You can only reserve a computer twice, which sucks cause I normally spend more than two hours on the internet. If you're smart, you'll walk in with your laptop and use the library's free Wi-Fi. There are also four 15 minute computers that needs no reservation for people who want to go on the internet for minor, quick things like check their email, a quick tweet, print, or download, or just check their facebook page. The noise level in the facility is usually quiet until after 2pm. That's when the school children arrives and then it becomes noisy. The staff are very friendly and are willing to answer any questions you have. It's like my little sanctuary away from home.
