I got chance to go to a pro rodeo here. They have a huge covered arena here, so it's good rain or shine. Also have giant fans to keep you cool.I haven't been to a rodeo in years and there's still a few cowgirls and cowboys in Davie,fl .It's fun for the whole family with clowns, bull riding, bunking Broncos and cattle ropeing to say a few. There was some good competition from other areas for this pro rodeo. We had some good BBQ and cold beers while watching the cowboys and cowgirls.

Ten minutes to the start of the Rodeo! Yee Haa!

As Rodeos go, this must be an excellent venue. A large, well managed space, with the requisite "midway " where you can get a variety of foods - burgers, ribs, fried anything as well as sweet treats and assorted beverages. There are vendors selling gift items, household trinkets and toys. And then's the show itself. Cowboys (and girls) demonstrating riding and wrangling skills. Bareback bucking bronco riding and bull riding were my favorite events (although I found myself rooting for the animals). I didn't love the wrangling events which didn't seem to be a fair contest. All in all, an interesting experience but not something I'd rush to repeat anytime soon.

There is every type from mobile home parks to multi million dollar estates. It is not unusual to see people riding their horses on the side of the main streets and some of the city still has a "down-home country" feel.

Davie helped the then Florida Governor Napoleon Bonaparte Broward to drain the swamplands. Davie then bought 27,000 acres and built a school. The Davie Schoolhouse opened in 1918 and it is now Broward county's oldest existing school building. The people of Zona were so grateful that in 1916 they changed the name of Zona to Davie in his honor. Davie has always been known as a Western town and you can see it in the architecture of many of the buildings today. A western theme park called Pioneer City was once located across the street from Flamingo Gardens but it closed in the 1960's. Davie hasn't forgotten it's western roots however. It is after all home to the Bergeron Rodeo. Davie has come a long way since it was a piece of the Everglades. It is now home to over 103,000 residents over 35 square miles. It is the location of many colleges and technical centers including Nova Southeastern University, Florida Atlantic University, and Broward College. Points of interest in Davie is the botanical park Flamingo Gardens and the Young at Art Museum. it is said the best piece of Key Lime pie can be had at Bob Roth's New River Groves. When Davie was settled it's economy was based almost entirely on farm land and cattle. Now the agriculture and cows are disappearing. No matter how built up Davie gets you can still find the alligators of the Everglades in the town's many nature parks.

The line to actually get into the grounds were crazy long, as to be expected for an event like this. Once in, parking was being directed by staff and easy. There were so many great food vendors and everything we bought was delicious! I saw the prettiest turkey leg ever.. we sampled arepas, bbq, street corn and a fried Cheeto thing that was okish. The show itself was great! Entertaining and fun. Lots of cowboys, cowgirls, bulls and horses. It was a great day at the rodeo

The events start at 2 PM & today was considered the national wrangler patriot day here. We paid our admission, it was $35 pp for the day & were given a day sheet listing the events. We watched the bareback riding, breakaway, down, and bronco roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronco, bull riding, Barrel racing and even a contest for the best overall cowboy. There were over 100 Cowboys from all over the country participating and there were lots of well cared for animals. There was a large crowd with many families present. I heard many languages. The country music played and cowboy hats were the look. There was a children's corner with the petting zoo, bounce rides, and a ride the bull. We shared a bbq brisket plate with cold slaw, ,Mac & cheese with a slice of white bread. I should have packed water and sandwiches. The Porta potties were pretty gross, I'm glad I brought my own paper.

It began as a way for citrus growers to celebrate their success. Davie became known as a top citrus producer due to the warm weather, water, and rich soil. In the late 1950's the citrus industry was it's peak in Davie with more than 5,000 acres. The first festival was a picnic and fruit stands set up along the C-11 Canal. In the 1940's a rodeo was added to the festivities to recognize Davie expanding cattle industry. In the 1960's, the Davie Chamber of Commerce formalized the event into an annual celebration. In the 1970's a population growth saw many of the agricuture and cattle pastures turned into subdivsions. Although Davie is no longer a larger producer of oranges and cattle the festival has grown into a large two day event. There are more than 250 displays, a parade down Orange Drive, the Davie Pro Rodeo, arts, and crafts, music, a petting zoo, bounce houses, kids activities, and a farmers market. You can take free tours at the Old Davie School House and the Davie Women's Club sells strawberry shortcake which they have been doing in conjunction with the festival for the past 20 years. The festival now attracts thousands of people to Davie to celebrate with some old fashioned fun.
