Edited to add: the manager T is amazing and such a sweetheart when I mentioned this. Carla and the manager are the only reason I give this place 5 stars! Carla was amazing!! NEVER go to Kiley, she needs lessons on customer service or to find a new job (seriously, David's bridal would benefit on firing her) I came in with 3 girlfriends, looking at the bridal and bridesmaid selections. We mentioned we wanted to look around first and see if anything interested us. Now we were approached multiple times in 10 minutes by 3 ladies, Carla, Kiley and the manager. Only once Carla and the manager approached us, not being pushing and we had great conversations and interactions with them. Now Kiley, became a problem from the beginning coming up to us every 2 minutes, watching us like a hawk acting like we were stealing or something. Now I assume she was doing this because she wanted the commission granted if we buy something. Now here is the kicker. We made it to the bridal selection and we start seeing dresses I wanted to try. Kiley comes up for the 4th (at least) time and I say I found some dresses but I want to choose them all before getting help since I know I'm not the one taking the dresses off the rack. She suddenly switches her attitude and with a cold tone says "oh you're only allowed 2 dresses because you don't have an appointment. If you want to try more on you have to make an appointment". Now that is absolute BS because 1. No one was in the store (and there were 3 people working), 2. I came into the store before on a weekend with one of the girls I was with and we didn't have an appointment and we were told no minimum. In fact, we were told before (by the same lady we assume is the manager) that we can try anything on just to ask for help to get the dresses! That interaction with Kiley killed the whole vibe. Like there were crickets when we previously laughing and having fun. She then comes around 2 min after AGAIN, and asks if I want to try something on. I told her, annoyed, that since I have a limit according to her I have to be picky. By this time I found a dress I wanted to try but I told my friends I'm not trying it on if Kiley was our consultant. Thankfully we went around and asked for the other consultant, Carla. Now Carla was the sweetest soul and so extremely patient as I called my mother in law to be and mother for their opinion. We had so much fun and we found a perfect fitting dress at such an amazing price. The entire 30 min I was trying on dresses Kiley's (I'm assuming appointment or walk in) had started trying on dresses. I am not surprised they didn't get anything because the entire time Kiley's focus was on me and my group. I mean it was uncomfortable to say the least and just sad for the other party. After finding my amazing dress and getting ready for checkout more problems came. Kiley just kept watching and staring at us while we were having fun with Carla and the manager. It was uncomfortable. And at one point we believe she started recording us before my sister in law noticed and called her out. So please, to this business do something with Kiley. I get she is younger but she has no customer service manners and ruined the entire experience. Carla thankfully saved it! I would love to give more stars but I have such a mixed opinion it saddens me. 5 stars for Carla, 0 stars for Kiley. I'm glad the commission is going to Carla, she deserved it! read more

If you are looking for low class service, then you have found the right place at David's Bridal in Merrillville. I called in advance and provided the sales person with the item number of the dress I wanted and asked her to please select several dresses in plum for me. Well, she forgot the number, didn't have the dress ready, and didn't have a room with the selection of dresses I requested. She then proceeded to provide me with a dress that was a size 16, of which was too big for me as I am a size 6. When I expressed how disappointed I was with the experience she and her coworkers proceeded to mock me and accuse me of having a bad attitude. Shame on the manager for not coming out of her closed door environment to ensure that I was having a good customer experience. The difference between David's Bridal and places like Elegance in Highland is the first class service you receive when visiting their store. I called them after my horrible experience at David's Bridal and they greeted me with grace, elegance, and superior customer service. Subsequently, I found the perfect dress. It pays to go to a high class environment, as you will be treated like you are the only one who matters. Run away from shopping at David's bridal as you will not have a good experience! read more

I've been going there for years for multiple occasions. I got a bridesmaid dress their that had to be ordered in. I am a size 8 the lady kept trying to get me an order of a size 10 I said three times I want a size 8. My dress just got delivered as a size 10 yesterday store couldn't help me at all with my problem except giving me $4*.** back after I spend almost 200 on it With me going their for years and never having a problem I didn't look at the receipt because I've never had a problem. They obviously don't listen to costumers when they state a size because they want to get more money thinking you'll do alterations with them. the wedding is next month and now I'm out of a proper fitting dress and have to pay for alterations on a dress I'm swimming in. I will never be returning back to that store again they lost a loyal and good spending costumer. read more

I purchased two dresses for my weddings. The first wedding dress purchased was for the formal wedding to happen in November. The second dress purchased was for the informal court wedding that occurred in September. I wore the second dress for the court wedding. Then my husband of three weeks passed away. I inquired about returning the first wedding dress that I did not wear. I explained the circumstances to the manager and she told me that I missed the return date in no uncertain terms. She was cold to the point of rude stating I could sell it. My husband had just passed away and this going through the emotional process of returning the dress was unfathomable. I aske for the corporate phone number, she begrudgingly gave it to me, but prefaced that they would tell me the same. i called the corporate office, after multiple calls with long wait times, I reached the appropriate department. The woman said that I could return the dress for an in-store gift card. I stated my husband is deceased what am I going to do with a gift certificate to a bridal store. She stated I could sell the gift certificate on-line. I stated that this is too much stress, could they please just refund my money; the dress is in perfect condition, it wasn't altered, and it is an emotional reminder my husband is gone. The corporate office then said they would escalate and I would hear back in the next two weeks. Within the hour, the store manager left me a message stating that I can return the dress, but it better be in pristine condition. I went straight to the store. The same manager helped me, displaying the same rude demeanor. She thoroughly examined the dress. Upon inspecting the dress she said the tags are missing and that means you wore it. She then said I can't return it without the tags. I said I was getting married in a couple weeks so of course I removed the tags. I re-explained that I removed the tags because I didn't think he would die. I stated that I have the receipt and its obvious I never wore the unaltered dress, please let me return it. She responded with a sigh and saying I guess I will print tags for it. She refunded my card. My situation was highly unusual, emotional, and devastating, then to be treated in such an abhorring manner was disappointing, unprofessional and businesslike. read more

We spent the weekend oolong for wedding dresses for my friend and bridesmaids dresses for the three bridesmaids. Maybe it's because I didn't know what to expect or because we stopped at a small boutique with very personalized experience before but I was not overly impressed. Our stylist was very sweet but it just a completely different experience than the smaller boutique. Our friend had her appointment for wedding dresses first and we noticed right away that somehow in that huge store that the selection was pretty small. It's a much more comfortable price point and probably more what I could afford if I was the bride, but you could also tell in the quality. The stylist did keep walking away to find other dresses and to put away the "no" dresses so we just ended up clipping some dresses for ourselves. It was nice that she was listening to my friends feedback and trying to locate a dress that maybe doesn't even exist. When it was our turn for bridesmaid dresses, they had us line up and she sized us up and announced our sizes. That part seemed very undignified. Could we not just put our sizes in when we book the appointment so we don't have to announce it to the whole world? They had extremely limited stock for bridesmaid dresses so I think I actually tried on one dress in my size and I couldn't zip the rest so I just had to guess. Our biggest complaint was that there were no mirrors in the dressing rooms. I could really dress myself if I could see what I was doing with all the ties and straps and zippers but I couldn't look at anything without a mirror. The dressing rooms were also super small. They had maybe 30 dressing rooms all lined so it's understandable they couldn't have really large ones. David's Bridal is really designed for a large volume of brides to come through so you will not get a very personalized experience. We did choose our bridesmaids dresses here since we wanted those to be affordable. They have a pretty long lead time so I should receive my dress in November, about 5 months from now. The good news is that we shopped early so that still gives us plenty of time to do alterations. I do plan to get alterations done at David's bridal. read more

This location was very helpful! I arrived earlier than my appointment so decided to just brows around. While doing so I could see how all the staff was greeting people as they walked is and helping get ladies setting into rooms and different dresses while maintaining smiles (we all know that can be difficult when it's so busy but they did very well) closer to my appointment they got my checked in and a room set up while the stylist was very attentive to what I was looking for while also suggesting styles that would complement my figure. They were very helpful and patient and made me feel comfortable. Even after I tried on about 10 dresses. We were able to narrow it down to two dresses but sense I had tried on so many I was exhausted. They very kindly saved all the options that I did like so I could review them at home and have them ready for my follow up. After sleeping on it I rebooked an appointment that they were able to get my in so quickly. They were very understanding that I had brought my 5year old son with me and supported the idea. (He is my little helper and the only family I have up here) also they stylist took photos for me so I could share them with my mom who lives in the other side of the country and was unable to attend. A different stylist had seen me the following day but was able to look at my history and pull the dresses I was interested in. She pulled out all the stops from heels to slip to veil, belt, and the gown. She made me feel confident and beautiful. Even had the seamstress come take a look at the dress and answer my questions about bustles and alterations. So of course with everything put together I immediately fell in love with the dress I was leaning towards and didn't even need to bother with the second option, because I knew I had found one. The staff here was very lovely and the gown is made of very wonderful quality fabric so you know exactly what you were getting. I was able to walk out of the store with my dress in hand that day, because they just happen to have the perfect dress in my size. Not to mention the incredible discount I got because I signed up for their free diamond reward program so that saved me a couple of hundred dollars on my dress. And it's free to sign up so I was quite shocked that everybody doesn't do that. I highly recommend signing up for the diamond rewards and going into the location to get the full effect of what they have to offer. With a few slight alterations, needing to be done, I am ready for my big day. read more

This was my first time ordering a bridesmaid dress from David's and I was left very upset and disappointed. I exchanged my first dress to another that felt more comfortable in. I was excited to try it on and once I took it out the bag there was a STAIN by the bust area!! A MUDDY brownish gray stain not caused by me!! Oh let me not forget to mention this shop thinks it's smart to link a medal hook on to a thin string like it won't bust! My cousins wedding is the 25th of this month there is ZERO way for me to bring it in when it is getting alterations done ( Not by them cause they clearly got idiots in there). Review based off phone call to the store. I called to inquire if they had any wedding dresses in my size available in store, that didn't need ordered. The lady replied so like a prom dress? No, I need a wedding dress for my wedding. She then said they carry all sizes , some you can try on, some you can't. I again asked how many they had to choose from to pay and take, she put me on hold and said we have a few and have prom dresses but come in and try some on. I explained I didn't want to drive half hour if they had nothing. "We should have some, you'd have to come look". Reading the previous reviews on this store, is a stark contrast of mine and my family's experience today! So, I must share our magical, fantastic experience is this David's Bridal store today. My sister Dawn is getting married in October 2016. Dawn, my Mother and I decided to go out and look for dresses. Dawn had an idea of what she wanted but I thought it would be a good idea to actually go and have her try on some dresses so she can really get an idea of what she was looking for. She insisted on coming to this Merrillville store. She was the Bride, so she made an appointment earlier in the week and off we went. Allysa (I'm hope I spelled her name correctly) was her consultant and was as pleasant and accommodating from the first "Hello"! She gave my sister a book to look through to get ideas and I asked if we can skip this step and if she could direct us to the plus size dresses (as my sister is a size 18). Didn't want to waste time looking through a book and her finding a dress she couldn't get in her size. She asked Dawn her budget and directed her to the dresses in her sizes as well as those in her size on the clearance rack. To my surprise, we found several possibilities (about 8 dresses) and Allysa patiently took them one by one to the dressing room. My sister had a ball trying on the dresses with Allysa in the room helping her don them all. My sister came out in each dress liking one thing about the dress and not liking another. She even got assistance from one of the other associates who brought out a beautiful lace shrug for a strapless dress (Dawn didn't want so much skin showing. I don't remember the other consultant's name but she had on fabulous tall wedged heeled black boots). As she was just about to settle on a dress that she liked but didn't love, one Todd Macuga appears and all of a sudden Magic happened!! Todd was complimenting Dawn on one of the dresses she had on and begin to help accessorize it. I then showed him the pictures of the other dresses she tried on, he had a few words with her and walked away. Todd came back shortly with a dress that he wanted her to try. I swear he was pacing waiting for her to appear in this dress!! LOL!! My sister came out in that dress (that Todd picked out after only speaking with her for two minutes) and she squealed with delight! She hadn't made a sound in the almost two hours we were there trying on dresses but with this dress, she squealed with delight!! Todd told us "I just needed to get to know her a little better to understand what she wanted." He identified what she liked in all the other dresses and found the perfect dress for her! I had to ask the price as it looked quite expensive. Todd says "It's within her budget". I pressed and asked how much? It was actually a bit under her budget and Dawn squealed again!!! Allysa brought out a bronze bell and handed it to Todd. He gave it to my sister and told her to close her eyes as he was speaking something to her that my mom and I didn't hear. He then asked her does she say "Yes to the Dress"? She yelled "Yes" and rang the bell just like on television!! It was Beautiful, Magical and just something to experience, especially for my sister!! Everyone was so overjoyed and there was so much excitement and enthusiasm in that store about Dawn finding her perfect dress! My sister, mother and I and even Todd and other consultants were teary eyed as we left the store! The experience was more than we ever expected! Do not waste your time coming here. My fiance and I were there last weekend and had a great experience. The woman that helped us actually stayed in the room to help me put on the dresses and she actually took the time to lace the corset. Today completely voided that. I drove the hour and 30 minutes to pick out bridesmaids dresses with my bridal party. I made an appointment so we would be guaranteed a room and a consultant. She called someone up and the woman told her she works in alterations now and we would "have to deal" with the other woman. After 15 minutes she never came to the front. Please be advised WE WERE LITERALLY THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE STORE. We started looking at dresses and picking a few out. A woman turns to us and asks "are you the bridesmaids looking for only lace dresses?" Although I'm the bride I answered yes. She then took the dresses out of my bridesmaids hands and says "well she only wants apple red and these don't come in apple red". I told her it didn't matter and she replied "the bride only wants apple red!" After I told her I am the bride she turned and went back to what she was doing- shuffling dresses around on the rack. We went back to the dressing rooms and found the ones with their names. My bridesmaid opens the door with her name on it and there is a woman changing in it. Fabulous. Another employee that was walking past said "the ones with the hearts are rooms that are taken" in an ignorant, annoyed voice. I took the heart off and showed her that this IS the room that was assigned to us. Again, another employee walks away. For 3 hours they tried on dresses and never once did anyone come back to assist us. We finally found dresses that would work (available in apple red!) only to find out it would take four months for them to arrive. The wedding is in three. She looked it up and the only dress they have in a size 10 in apple red is in California. You have to pay for the sample dress and then have it shipped to you. No discount for buying a sample. No guarantee that it isn't damaged. No refunds, no returns. Needless to say we didn't buy anything. When I spoke to the manager about the awful customer service, her excuse was "someone called off". Five employees in the store, three customers, two ladies trying on dresses...but they were so shorthanded that no one could help us. Save yourself the headache and skip this place. read more

My dress did come in. About 4 months early. They said ti might take till March. I got it in early December. Again, maybe that's not typical. But I'll take it! The associate that helped me this time was different and once again, fantastic service! Since I plan to alter the dress quite a bit, I can't have the alterations done at the store because the company and designers don't allow you to radically change their design. Which is fine. So I walked out with my dress! No hassle! read more

This was my first time ever shopping, and experiencing a David bridal chain location and I'm torn about my visit. The customer service wasn't fantastic, and sales associates were only available when we personally went to grab them ourselves. We tried on tons of bridesmaids dresses, and ended up collectively spending a ton of money at the end of the night. I was mostly disappointed that we didn't get a very personal wedding experience when it came down to trying on dresses, and making it something to remembers or the rest of my life. So, first of all: major props to the super helpful and resourceful store clerk Minerva who was willing to deal with the back and forth of checking in with the bride via text and phone in order to secure a bridesmaids dress for a fast approaching wedding. Minerva made sure to be honest about when I could get the dress on time and double and triple checked that I was getting the right dress for the event. Granted, I wish there was more forewarning about ordering times and shipping lead times provided by David's Bridal HQ - because the bride was not aware of this fact and I was not told that I needed to be shopping up to six months in advance of the wedding date to get access to all available styles. Some parts of the process are a bit... over complicated, in my opinion. I had encountered so many hoops and hurdles to ordering a bridesmaids dress, that I was relieved when a solution that fit well, looked great, matched the brides' requests and could be ordered and altered before the wedding date was made. I think David's Bridal wins for its access and ease of ordering... the cost is also much more affordable than if I needed to get a specific brand name from another retailer in Chicago. If I need to do this whole rigmarole in the future - I'll try David's first and skip the hassle. read more

I made an appointment to come in and try on BM dresses for a wedding that I am in this summer. The bride wanted any dress in the Valentina Red color, which is Vera Wang. When I found out it takes 16 weeks for most of those dresses, I realized that wouldn't work. Brooke was assigned to help me and she did a great job! She found lots of dresses that were close in color and would have worked out perfectly. At the last minute, we found a Vera Wang dress in right color, in the right size on the clearance rack. My two bridemaids and myself decided to come to this store randomly to try on dresses. Im so happy we did!! We all found our PERFECT dresses and bought them same day! We did not have an appointment and started looking at bridemaids dresses first, after finding a few the store manager Todd came over and took the dresses and set us up in a dressing room. After they tried on the dresses, i started looking for a dress myself. Again Todd was very helpful, he had the front desk lady sign me in and assigned me to Holly. I have to say Holly was AMAZING. The women in this store are an unfriendly, lazy, miserable group. From the moment I stepped in the door I felt I was interrupting. I stopped in with a question about shoes. Not one woman showed initiative to help. One gal was just sitting up front. One was on the computer and one was shuffling papers. Too busy to be bothered by a customer. It was a Wednesday afternoon at 2:00. It was not busy! This is not the store to go to for good service. Both my girls attempted to use davids for their weddings and chose other places. The appointment went super smooth. I wanted my BMs to try the White Vera Wang collection. I have 3 BMs, one of them knew exactly which one she wanted and when she tried it one she was sold. My other BM and MOH couldn't decide between two styles. They all ended up going with the same skirt just different top to their liking. The shop was nice and clean. Wasn't over crowded. We even found a dress for my mom, even though we were just there for BM dress shopping. Two of the my 3 gals ordered there dress right then and there. My mom would have bought her dress, but the consultant told us she couldn't get the dress at all. For some reason when I got home later, I went to David'sBridal.com looked up the dress we wanted for my mom. It was in stock and ready to ship in her size. Bonus we got $30 off $150+ order and free shipping. Wonder why the store couldn't get, but I was able to purchase online no problem. Anyway, the experience overall was fun and easy. The consultant did her job of getting t he Dresses, but that's about all. She kept telling me the David's line had more of a selection. But we all loved the Vera line. read more

When I got married in October of 2009 I got practically all of my ensemble at the Merrillville David's bridal--dress, shoes, bag, necklace, earings, bra, and slip. My mom and maid of honor also got their dresses and shoes there as well. Although this was all 1 1/2 to 2 years ago, I was left with a favorable impression of the store. Everything came in earlier than expected, no horror stories, employees were always attentive and helpful, and everything looked great! Fast forward to now, and I'm going thru the whole shebang again since my sister is getting married this summer and I am her matron of honor. I've already been there 3 times in the last couple of months! First, to help the sis try on and pick out a wedding dress. We had such a helpful consultant who helped immensely in the process of my sister trying on what was probably about 12 dresses. We found "the one" and as luck would have it, she was able to take the dress home that day--and only minor alterations will be needed. Score! The next visit was for my mom and myself to pick out dresses...Although this was a very busy day (it was Saturday, after all) we were able to try on all of the dresses we wanted without a problem. The one I picked even was discounted $20--score again! The third time was to pick up the dresses for my mom and I...The dresses that weren't estimated to come in until March and April were ready 2 weeks later! And, bonus, when I went in on the last visit, I found some ardorable shoes to go with my dress on clearance--scored thrice! Yes, I know David's Bridal is mass-produced. But, you know, I was a very simplistic bride that didn't need a $10,000 dress to wear once. My dress--as well as my sister's--was very affordable. And I don't think it looked cheap at all. They have so many choices of dresses, and that goes for the bridesmaid dresses as well, that I don't feel I'm missed out on being one of a kind. I didn't know anyone else with my dress! Another note on the bridesmaid dresses...so many of them are definitely wear-again designed. And they have an amazing palatte of 48 colors which also match with ties/vests from Men's Warehouse. So, they make it easy. If you are a low-maintenance bride, I highly recommend THIS David's Bridal. They will limit the stress associated with planning your wedding, at least on the wardrobe front. I had the best experience in this David's Bridal! My consultant Taniqua is phenomenal. She made me feel like I was dealing with a friend that has a strong fashion sense. A lot of times when you enter a business the sales people are sharks and that wasn't the case with Taniqua. I was due to be a Matron of Honor this summer, and due to unexpected tragedy, there is no longer a wedding. Myself and 5 other girls order Vera Wang bridesmaids dresses. The dresses were a little over $200. Never worn or altered, they won't let us return. I don't understand, because it was hard to get the dresses in the first place. They were very high indemand. I called to see if there was anything to do, and she told me to sell it on eBay or Facebook. It's a $200 dress. No one on these sites want to give us anymore then $60. I don't understand if they are still selling these dresses, why can't we return them? Good enough reason to never return for the next wedding. read more

It's hard for me to even give a star. This store is not run like a bridal salon should be. If you want professional personalized service, this is not the place to go. The sales person told me to go look at the racks and pick out dresses. I thought is was the other way around. Wasn't I supposed to tell her what I was looking for and she bring them to me? Don't expect much help with getting in and out of a dress. My sales person wasn't around. I walked out and no one so much as said thank you. Not all are run like this. I'm running behind on my wedding preparations. Wedding gowns are pretty expensive and I'm on a budget. So I decided to be practical I looked online at David's bridal in the $99 section. I wrote a list of the ones I saw online. But when I got to David's bridal in Merriville Indiana, the gowns I saw online were not in the store. However the customer service was amazing. And I was able to try on 8 really nice wedding dresses in my size for $99. They provided corset, slip, shoes and accessories as well as their time and expertise. I found my dress! I am a first time bride. My wedding is in a year. I made my appointment at David's bridal because in this area, that's just where you go. I was extremely nervous. I was assigned to Carla and she was amazing. My sisters and mom were with me and she was great with taking everyone's opinions and options and getting me ready. I found two dresses out of the 15 I tried on! She gave me her honest opinion on each despite my family's or price of dress. I made an appointment. Got there on time, my stylist came right away. We picked out 4 dresses and began trying them on when the rest of my party arrived. Big girls don't fret they have sizes 24, 26, and 28 to try on in the store. read more
