Unless there is something special that sets it apart from the usual modern art/portrait/natural history type of experience. I was ready to be inside and warm, and I was ready to see something new, so the Film Museum seemed like a good choice. There are several floors of exhibits spanning the history of moving images. From the very first to the very recent, I was delighted with the interactive exhibits and tidbits of information I gleaned while walking around. Special appreciation goes to the team that made the montage of film clips that I saw on the upper floor. That took a lot of work - it flowed together and had theme, the sound turned up on one of several scenes that might be taking place at any given moment on the wrap around screens. Truly, great job. Likewise with the Ardman montage - I simply couldn't stop watching. Speaking of which, the collection up there was wonderful. I loved seeing the clay models, and the sets with all the small props. I especially liked the characters that were on the walls - these should have been for sale! If they had been I'd have several sheep in my living room right this minute. If you're like me and you only wander in from outside when there is something out of the ordinary to see, then let yourself wander here.

Actually, the museum is much more than just those two levels though namely because they also have their own cinemas where they various cult classics being played (and also the ever present gift shop). However, the second floor, the one that explores the how movies are made was fascinating, especially since there are a lot of displays where you get to play around with effects and so on. They also have movies playing up here as well, though I would find a film museum that doesn't actually show films to be a little odd.

It's a great place to start your exploration of Frankfurt. You'll be surrounded by beautiful architecture. There will be a statue for you to check out. It's a touristy area, sure (so I wouldn't have a meal in the area), but it's also a place locals go to congregate and hang out. With Germany getting bombed heavily during WWII, Römerberg still gives you the feeling of old school Germany. And while I wasn't there in December, if you are, you'll be able to check out the famous Christmas markets Germans are known for. Spend a little time here, walk around, and take it all in.

I got to try so much food from multiple vendors. And even got to ride the carousel. And the center piece of the night is clearly the Christmas tree! Absolutely stunning! This is my second time visiting Römerberg. Outside of Christmas time this place is a beautiful plaza rich with history and it has plenty of restaurants and shops around. Definitely a must see while in Frankfurt

However, while it is free entry, there isn't all that much to see and do here. From what I gathered from looking at the pictures on the wall this used to be a church, more a protestant church as opposed to a Catholic one (Protestant churches do tend to be boring on the artistic side of things). However, that is no longer the case, but for a time it was also used as a parlaimentary building, and they go into details about that as well. However, these days it is just a conference centre, though it does have some historical interest, which is why you can enter and have a walk around inside.

The origins of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange go back to medieval trade fairs in the 11th century. As Frankfurt developed into a regional power center, the bourse was established in 1585. After 1949 and the end of World War II, the Frankfurt Stock Exchange became the leading stock exchange in Germany. The bull and the bear were erected in 1985 by artist Reinhard Dachlauer and rubbing the bull's, uh, parts, is similar to the Charging Bull sculpture of Wall Street in New York (see https://www.yelp.com/biz/charging-bull-new-york-3) which will bring you good financial luck. I opted instead to take a selfie with my hand on the horn of the bull. The concept of "bull" and "bear" are to do with the stock market. An upward market is considered a "bull market" because the bull's horns are pointed upwards. A downward market is a "bear market" because the bear's claws are pointed downwards. And now you know!

She's the focal point of the whole Romer Square; she's the first thing to greet you back after…read moreyears away. With unwavering grace, she's totally judging you - no really - she has scales. She's the Fountain of Justice. This beautiful fountain is classic of the old world and adds charm to the Romer Square. I kind of felt she needed to be a little decorated as a Christmas Angel during this time of year, but she's famous enough as it is. Great for taking photos, this whole area was one of the most enjoyable parts of our whole trip. With tons of tourist shops around the perimeter, you can understand why this is to highly recommended. First off, the mirror in the outside lobby was very cool. I liked the infinity reflections which made for a great selfie and some fun images. Neat! "Diorama" was thought provoking and different. It was neat think "Hey, I've seen this before" because the Mark Dion exhibit was also going on at the Boston Contemporary Art Museum that I saw last month. The second exhibit was "Glanz Und Elend" (Splendor and Misery in the Weimar Republic). Political and social tensions during the years after the First World War. A little shocking, a little depressing, a lot interesting. All told, well worth the admission. I'm glad I made this one of my art stops in Frankfurt!

One of the main art institutions in Frankfurt showcasing diverse exhibitions from a certain artist…read moreor labeled under a certain topic. Since it's an exhibition hall and not a museum, it shows artworks for a certain period of time without actually owning artworks. The building is located in the city center and has been built during the 80's but still looks contemporary and modern because of its simple and minimalistic design. Descriptions of artworks and even the toilet signs are printed on white walls so they look like typographic art. Exhibitions are well organized and range from mid-century paintings to contemporary installation arts and photography. It may be difficult to get to see an interesting exhibition while visiting the city but city residents can always choose to see what they are interested in. Entrance fees are moderate with rebates for groups, students and seniors. Car parking during the day is difficult because of its central location but always possible at the Dom/Römer garage.
