I worked with Dr. Cox for a brief period as I have been dealing with some wound care issues and Dr. Cox consults with the Franciscan Health Wound Care Institute when there is concern about possible infection or other issues.
Dr. Cox visits the Wound Care clinic on Thursdays and his consultation is typically requested by the director of the clinic.
Dr. Cox works out of Franciscan locations on Indy's Southside, in Mooresville, and in Carmel. It is important to note, however, that he is not employed by Franciscan Health - this can impact billing so it's important to be aware of this type of thing.
Dr. Cox tends to have a fairly matter-of-fact approach. He's quietly personable, however, he leans toward the aggressive when it comes to treatment. In this case, it meant addressing an infection aggressively by using a higher dose of antibiotic and going for two rounds. This was an antibiotic that I tend to not tolerate well and he made sure I was comfortable with it before moving forward. He also explained well why he wanted to use this particular antibiotic.
Dr. Cox's treatment worked well and he monitored it well. He didn't exceed what was necessary and quickly detoured me back to wound care once he felt like we'd addressed the infection appropriately. Because of my birth defect, spina bifida, my prognosis isn't the greatest with these things but I felt good about this course of treatment.
As a general rule, I tend to lean toward female clinicians due to some past trauma experiences. However, I found Dr. Cox laid back and relaxed enough that I was comfortable overall.
Having a disability can be a tricky thing when it comes to this type of concern. I often find doctors rush to extreme measures (like amputation) because they can't quite see the value of the disabled body. I felt like I didn't have to deal with that here even with an infected limb/stump that had swollen pretty significantly.
While Dr. Cox is a bit old school as I tend to prefer more relational clinicians, he knows what he's doing and he did it well. I'd definitely be willing to consult with him again if needed. He is board certified and accepting new patients. read more
