I did upgrade to the full membership, sadly I have to say that the value for money of David Lloyd southampton is poor. terrible staff - customer is always wrong, even when you escalate to 'management' their policy to put the onus on the paying member as opposed to admitting the mistake and focusing on solving the customer complaint.
David Lloyd Southampton has had several major problems since I have been a member - mice/rats swimming in outdoor pool, over concentration of chemicals placed into Jacuzzi's leading to skin irritations and bleaching of swim wear - not once but over a sustained period of time - only to be dealt with by the rudest member of the team and told it was our fault for wearing the wrong swimwear. Sub standard swimming teachers - at extra cost to membership, the club offers group and individual swimming lessons to children - frankly they'd receive more instruction if they went to local public swimming facilities. teachers were preoccupied with disruptive members of the classes meaning those willing to learn were ignored, sometimes left shivering on the pool side for 15 minutes at a time. Also the tennis lessons - again at addition cost - were good to begin with, the coaches seemed to be interested in making the individual learn, who ever those who showed some inclination for progression were told that they they'd have to be in the group for a while longer, from discussion with other parents of those attending the kids are kept at same level for 12months, regardless of progress/ability. furthermore once we booked the follow on courses, the coaches seemed distracted and were trying to juggle multiple lessons across different courts in different parts of the building, also they were seen using mobile phones/checking for calls/messages. Hardly the attentive coaching one would expect from an organisation based on Tennis....
Also cancelling the membership is an arduous process, there is flexibility for some members and inflexibility for other, I attempted to cancel the 1st of Jan but could not get through to the membership 'team' until the 9th - to be told that id have to pay a further months membership ! frankly I'd pay another month to never have to go back there again.
I am not worried about the cost of the facilities, but I do expect value for money, not to be treated like something that they have stepped in as soon as you raise an issue or complaints. read more
