I really wanted to love this place. I've only been in once or twice to look for gifts...the gift selection and boutique are mesmerizing and such a shopping "experience". I was given a gift certificate by my husband for Christmas for a facial, so I was excited to finally experience the spa as well. Before I even got in the door though, a separate experience at Witchell's new boutique across the street soured my afternoon. After being greeted by two very sweet girls at front desk who offered me some information about the store and selection of clothes, etc., I was verbally assaulted by a store manager. While browsing through the racks, a woman came in the store and literally shouted at my back to "please place your coffee on the table". I can't articulate her tone but it was biting and rude. I turned around to face her and she wasn't even looking at me. Instead of walking over to me, making eye contact, and politely asking me if I minded placing my coffee on the counter she called me out in the rudest way possible. It took all of my wits to not call her out on her approach, but thankfully I managed to escape when she left for the back room. This is customer service 101. If you want to leave people with a good impression, smile at them. Make eye contact. Speak in calm voices, etc. If I ever run into this woman again, I'm going to school her. Anyway, I had my facial to look forward to across the street, so I thought. I was asked at check in if I had ever been there before. I explained that I've never had a service there but had been in the store to shop for gifts on several occasions. The girl was sweet, but didn't explain anything. She took me downstairs to the spa and told me that someone would be with me soon. The spa was beautiful, but completely deserted of staff. Even the rooms were all empty. I waited for a good 15 mins before a technician finally approached me and asked me what I needed. Kind of surprised at the lack of formality, I explained that I had checked in upstairs and was told to wait there. This woman didn't introduce herself, but checked me in on the computer and then asked me to wait again. At this point, I ran into another woman waiting and she confided in me that she thought they had forgotten about her. The technician finally came back to the front and escorted me to a locker where I was told to get undressed, yada yada and meet her back in the front. I waited in that front room for another FIFTEEN minutes before she came back to get me. I was 30 seconds away from getting dressed and getting the hell out of there. This now was 30 mins after my set appointment time. I think she could tell I was annoyed because once I was on the table she explained that they have a 15 minute "wait" policy for spa treatments. WTH???? Why wouldn't someone explain that when the appointment was booked or while I was checked in? It's really hard to relax into a facial or any treatment when you feel annoyed and ignored. Anyway, the facial was fine, but I had to ask the woman what her name was. On a positive note, she didn't push any product on me. Not sure now if that's their "philosophy" or if she was just too lazy to care. DJW is missing the boat BIG-TIME on Service. If you have the talent and the money to run a high-end salon, how hard is it to instill a mind set of SERVICE into your employees? Without good service, you're just a bunch of snobs taking my money. Customers should not have to guess, or wait, or feel out of place. The only welcoming thing I found there was the fireplace and some lavender honey hand cream. read more

The shampoo service made my head feel like hamburger in a meat grinder. I didn't think it was possible to get a headache from a shampoo treatment - and the 'head massage' lasted maybe 30 seconds - but thank god for that. On top of that - I made my appointment online and was told by the site that my cut would be around $50... That's fine - I spend that much every 3-4 weeks on my hair - I have a high maintenance cut and I expect it. I had LESS than HALF OF ONE INCH of hair TRIMMED and the stylist didn't even 'style' my hair and they charged me ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!! I walked out feeling like my hair looked like trailer park trash. The only redeeming thing about my visit was my stylist was very polite - but for $100 dollars for 45 minutes of his time - he wasn't nice enough!! read more

Best salon for men's haircuts in the Greater Bucks area. Highly recommend Cole- she's been very easy to work with, is always responsive to specific requests and proactive with suggestions and recommendations. All their stylists seem up to speed with the latest techniques. The service during the cut is very attentive. Excellent with scheduling. Overall very pleased with the stylist and the service at this salon and would definitely recommend it. read more

I have been visiting this salon for the past 7 years. I have always seen the same stylist, Brooke, and I love my hair every time. She gets my color right every visit. Throughout the years I have been all shades of blonde as well as brunette. I also am always happy with my cut and style. The blowout usually lasts for a few days which is nice. I have also had a few services in the spa as well. Spa pedicure is nice, massage is great too. They also do lash tinting, which is amazing and affordable. The only reason I did not give the salon 5 stars is for two things- sometimes the front desk people can be rude and short... Also, whenever I am there on a Saturday it gets very very busy, and waiting for a shampoo bowl or chair for color can be annoying. It sort of takes away from a relaxing experience. But overall I love the salon. read more

I have been going there for years, but I think my time is over. A few months ago, I had a bad color experience. I walked out with huge brown stripes. I came back to have it "corrected" and while it was better, it really is still off--I have big chunks of hair that are blonde with various high and lowlights, and big chucks that are just brown in the back. But OK, my stylist is good, and everyone has an off day, right? But then just lat week, my sister, whom I referred to DW, came to my house in tears because her hair was supposed to be highlighted with a tint of red, and the glaze they put on the face frame was bright red--so her "roots" now look one shade, but the rest looks totally different. It's pretty bad. So I think the stylists are either overworked so they can't pay attention, or the staff doing the finishing glazes aren't being supervised. Either way, I'm outta there. read more

Over the years, I have received several services at the David Witchell Salon and Spa and have always looked forward to a wonderful experience but due to a recent incident will not return. I received a painful and stressful facial treatment that left me with facial bruises that lasted several days. To make matters worse, Mr. Witchell would not return telephone calls or provide me with a refund. I find this poor business practice offensive and therefore rate this Salon with a negative star rating. read more

I have been going to David J Witchell for over 20 years, I have been treated like a princess. David always checks on his clients to make sure they are happy and satisfied. All of the staff are friendly and pleasant. It is my mini vacation when I am getting my hair done or at the spa. David is personally involved like no other owner could ever be. He lives and breaths his salon. He is always approachable and available to meet with any client. He takes a lot of pride in his salon and has worked very hard to make it the best salon I have ever been to. He is the most dedicated owner I have ever met. I don't know when he finds time to relax. Relaxing to David is being at the salon managing it and is on top of everything that goes on there. In between running the Salon he also has the most fabulous skin care line. It is affordable and 100% organic ingredients. My skin has never looked and felt better. I have spent a lot of money on skin care items but hands down David J Witchell is by far the best . It is very disheartening to me when I see a negative review. I can only say that if they are not a satisfied customer , it is not David Witchell Salon, it is the customer. Some people no matter what you do will never be satisfied. . You will definitely NOT get the care and expertise you get from this salon. I see the reviews that clients bring in a picture and expect their hair to look exactly like the picture. Sometimes this is just impossible, I actually brought a picture in tonight and had my hair colored, and when I looked at the picture and then look at my hair, I can't tell the difference. It is SPOT on. I may not look like the model in the picture, which this is what some customers think they are going to look like, but my hair is exactly what I wanted ( as always). I love this salon and David is amazing and always friendly and accommodating to everyone, also he is very involved personally with his staff. He truly cares about each and every staff member, they are not just employees to him , they are family. People are so quick to judge, it is just not fair to us who know beyond a shadow of a doubt that David stands behind everyone in his salon and their work. I have been stopped so many times over the years and asked where I get my hair done. I am so proud to tell them David J Witchell . Do yourself a favor and ignore the negative reviews , The people who wrote them are obviously not happy with themselves and no one will ever satisfy them. I wish people would are not happy would just speak to David instead of trying to bash the salon. It is just spiteful and hurtful but most important untrue. I recommend this salon to anyone who wants to look amazing and have a wonderful experience from Hair to Makeup to Spa. Each and every service is 100% satisfaction. I had a cut and highlights done for the first time today with Jason. He listened to what I wanted and most importantly what I didn't want! He was friendly, funny and took his time. Kenny was the assistant that shampooed and applied my toner. He was also very friendly and did an awesome scalp massage. Everyone spoke so highly of the other stylists and seemed very friendly. Yes, you can have a plastic bag to protect your purse, but at any price would you really want hair color accidentally splashed on your bag?!? I left with great hair and feeling like I had been going to him forever. I will def be a regular client of his from now on. read more

I had a bad experience at another Newtown salon and was glad to find a salon that I was happy with. STAY AWAY!!!! HEED MY WARNING!! AWLFUL HAIRCUT!! I have been there a number of times and I went yesterday for a trim with Lisa C. I was very specific on what I wanted for my trim - What I got was a HATCHET JOB! STAY AWAY! Before my hair cut and during the cut, I spoke up reminding her not to cut too much. When she was done, she said it only looked short because of the way she blew it out. I complained, the manager had another stylist blow it out and it looked even worse! Lisa came back over to me and said, "Oh, yeah... it is shorter than usual" I am HORRIFIED and EMBARASSED - because my hair looks terrible -- truly looks like a mullet... Manager gave me an offer to come back in to get a lesson on how to blow it out as it grows. Meanwhile, I will start wearing hats.... read more

I was booked for a facial last weekend. From the moment the Esthetician touched my face, I knew this had to have been one of her first facials. I don't mind a new Esthetician, but I do mind paying a rookie a master's fee. I was not happy at all: I had to ask for the leg bolster, cleansing rags were cold, the neck message was poor and there was no scalp massage. I was there with a friend who was with another esthetician and she couldn't say enough how terrific her facial was. I was a bit jealous. Lesson learned: Ask for an experienced Esthetician. read more

Got my haicut from an expert with over 10 yrs experience and the guy did a lousy job. they take your money and forget about you, very impersonal. I haven't seen any other place with such bad customer service. I would NEVER go there again and will make it a point to tell all my friends as well. I starting to going to David Witchell's for one reason and one reason only...Catherine! She is the waxing queen. She does the most amazing job and when she left Toppers I was heartbroken because I could not find anyone near as good as her. At a really bad waxing session at Topper's spa(Took almost 2 hours and the person picked wax off of me and butchered my skin) they let it slip where Catherine had gone. Hooray! I recommend her to anyone who wants a nearly painless, quick waxing. Not to mention she's funny and makes the whole experience less awkward. I found her again and never looked back. My only complaint is the front desk staff. They aren't very warm and friendly. Maybe it is my career but their therapeutic communication could use some brushing up on. I understand front desk people have the hardest job ever! They are trying to do 15 things at once but it is your first impression when you walk in a business. It's a spa/salon. Very fun, happy, soothing type of job. The people at the front desk should not be acting either snotty or like they just swallowed a lemon. Its a turn off especially when someone is going in there to spend a good deal of money. Just a thought from someone who worked in this industry and does a lot of therapeutic communication, which is what people who are working in a spa should be doing. SO yes I will continue to recommend and go to the spa for Catherine but, you would have a much better chance of me trying other services and recommending other services if the rest of the staff was just a little friendlier. Like pretty much everything else in Newtown, expect to be treated like third world garbage if you are not from there. I happened to be passing through while wearing a brand new Ralph Lauren summer dress and people still treated me like I was a weirdo. I always want to go into this place because it looks nice and I would expect that they have great service but the reviews confirm my suspicions. I've gone in there to browse and I guess it's good that no one really bothered me while browsing? It looks like people felt like they were being followed around because the owner didn't trust them or something but I take it as an insult when I am in a shop and everyone ignores me because I feel like they assume I am not buying anything so why worry about me. This happened both times I went into Micheal Kors shop and I'll tell you what... I haven't purchased one yet. Especially when that happens and five minutes later someone else enters the same store and they receive the full greeting from staff, "Hi how are you? If you need any help just let me know!" I maybe got this once from this place but I still always feel like they are looking at me like I am not welcomed there. It's really sad that places have to be that way. I don't know if the people even realize they are being that way? Maybe that is just their normal standard? I don't see how unless they live in a box. How can people be that rude and unfriendly and not realize they are giving off vibes that they are rude and unfriendly? Maybe in their minds they think high end (which is what they are trying to be) IS snotty? Think again. Anyone who thinks they have to be rude to be posh is obviously just a poser. And if they really think designer anything makes a person a better clientele, they don't deserve the business of good people anyway. As I said before, anyone can have a designer bag or sunglasses and what have you, that doesn't make them classy. Shame on the fool who thinks otherwise. I can't begin to describe the positive experience I had today at their Peddlers Village location. I was a model for a stylist in training under David. I expected him to be overseeing and instructing the cut and blow dry. I expected he'd be checking in on her throughout the experience. Boy was I surprised! First, despite how incredibly busy he is with his own clients, 2 salons and a boutique opening up next week, I got to see first hand exactly how this man became so successful. The care he takes with each customer and stylist was mind blowing. Despite demands on his time and various things going on in the salon fighting for his attention, he did not leave me or the stylist side for one second! Wow!!! His attention to detail was impressive but nothing impressed me more than his kindness, commitment to quality/excellence, and his ability to give feedback in a kind, direct, clear manner to his staff. This is someone who cares deeply about his reputation in the community. I felt cared about and tended to from start to finish. Can't recommend his salons enough. Thank you! read more

I love every experience at David Witchell's salon. It is the most welcoming and supportive environment. David and his staff are warm and kind, and they put time and meticulous care into everything they do. I can't imagine a better experience. I always walk away feeling refreshed and satisfied! On top of the fact that I know that I can always trust them, I know that I am always listened to and heard. We always start out the appointments with a conversation about what I'm wanting as far as the look goes, and they always meet (and surpass) my needs, by helping me to explore options that will best fit what I'm looking for. i got my hair done here for the first time today, lilly did my color and it looks wonderful, i sat with robin for a haircut, i explained to her that i dont usually style my hair and i wanted to do something different thats very easy maintenance but i wasnt sure how i wanted it cut, she made alot of suggestions and we agreed on something (even though i dont understand much about hair, i didnt know exactly what she meant) but i trusted her and she gave me the most amazing haircut ive ever had in my life, it really suits me and made me realize that my hair was a hot mess before, she taught me how to style it and keep it looking nice even though i dont like to spend alot of time on my hair, she simplified everything so that i understood and it was just a very wonderful experience!!!! i highly recommend robin and lilly!!! read more
