I love doctor tate ,I had no clue what was wrong with my hands and fingers,one look and some messing with my hands he said I need some test, after the test I went in he told me what I needed ,but he also have me other options,when I said which ever will get me back where I needed to be e set it up ,at first I was scared but he put me at ease and he fixed my hand and I wouldn't trade him for nothing......RB read more

I have been dealing with an elbow problem which turned out to be arthritis. The entire staff at Norton Arm and Hand were friendly and accommodating, from the receptionist to the intake coordinator to the radiologist and Dr. Tate. I found Dr. Tate to be understanding and objective, and while somewhat soft spoken, very understanding and informative. He seemed to have an extensive grasp of his specialty, and upon reviewing his credentials, it's easy to see why! My internist's primary hospital was Norton's and I was with him thirty-five years total. He was a wonderful physician before and after the practice was bought by Norton Healthcare. He is the same age as I am and moved to another state and semi-tired. In the past I had an excellent experience and the nurses and support staff were wonderful. Recently I was referred to Louisville Arm and Hand by my primary doctor. When I arrived after about a fifteen minute wait a nurse walked up to me without introducing herself or saying hello and said in a harsh tone, " what's the matter". I was so taken aback I could hardly tell her what the symptoms were, she walked away while I was still talking. Shortly I was called in to see the doctor. I found him dismissive and not at all concerned with the excruciating pain I was experiencing, (no I did not want pain medication). This doctor never touched my hand. However, he did use a small instrument to test the sensation in my hand. He then told me I would need to get two test before he could do anything without explaining what the test were or why I needed them. I asked him if there was anything he could do for me that day and he replied "If were to do surgery I could do you great harm" as if I expected surgery that day. I knew absolutely nothing about my condition or how it was to be treated and wasn't about to take time to tell me. Shortly after the visit I received a MY Chart notice as usual and I replied with a question about the treatment and asked if i could get an injection for the pain. The doctor answered three weeks later and told me he doesn't perform injections. After waiting and suffering and for about three months from the time appointment was made to see him and getting the test I sent a message or left a message by phone as to what the next step would be. I was sent a message that I would need to make an appointment with Dr to discuss my options. When I went to see him he told all the things the surgery wouldn't do as if reading a script including that my elbow may not heal properly and didn't want me telling about it. However, he never discussed any option except surgery. I asked a couple of questions and he left the room. Shortly after the appointment I received another My Chart message and I replied by telling him I recalled that he had told all the things the surgery wouldn't do and I would like if there was a another treatment option.He never answered. When I went for PAT at the downtown outpatient center I stopped by his office and told the staffer that was imperative that my questions were answered before the surgery. The next day his office called and said that the doctor was cancelling my appointment for surgery and would need to make another appointment to see him and bring some one with me or I could ask my to find me another provider. I was so offended, insulted, and angry that he would imply that I am suffering from dementia when he doesn't even know me. Within the last nine months I have had numerous health issues including hospitalization and I have been able to follow all instructions without assistance from any one. I handle all my medical, financial and personal needs. This is the most arrogant doctor I have ever had the displeasure of seeking help from. Not only did he refuse to help me after all the tests and charges to my insurance but he so denigrated to his partners to the point that none of them would take me. He also called my internist and told him that he needed to find me another provider. I assume he told him I am to senile for him. I have had excellent medical care all of my life and I have been treated by many specialist and no one has ever suggested that I am in any way to senile to understand and remember what has been said. read more
