Specialties
Editing, Teaching, and Coaching Writers of Literary Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Memoir. I aim for great writing that is rich, succinct, and evocative. I have freelanced with writers in Beijing, Thailand, Johannesburg, Bulgaria, Sweden, Sydney, London, Paris, and around the US. I can sit down with writers around the San Francisco Bay Area, but it is rarely necessary to meet in person. I value clarity, coherence, and a distinctive voice in the writing, and am skilled at bringing forth the brilliance of the both the writing and a joyful collaborative process. I have been long-time associate editor with Volcano Press.
History
Established in 1988.
My first editing project (China Books) was the most challenging: to integrate two fictionalized versions of the same memoir. Since then I have worked on over 200 dissertations, plus novels, short-stories, a range of non-fiction from medical to the impact of technology, and memoirs. Drawing on years of counseling experience, my capacity to read an author's intention makes short writing consultations my favorite sport. Besides teaching writing and coaching writers, I keep up with the changing publishing landscape and network to produce a professional self-published book. My focus is strong structure as well as rich and efficient writing to carry the content to the intended audience. I have been giving presentations on writing and how to make the most of editorial services at conferences since 2008. My "10 Writing Guides" is free at davidcolincarr.com/subscription-list/
Meet the Business Owner: David C.
David is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. He is incredible with people, great at handling details and is masterfully efficient. David has great insight and wisdom about life, human growth and human beings, yet is one of the humblest people I have ever met. He is a fine writer and a pleasure to interact with.
