I booked an appointment expecting experienced medical guidance. Instead I was seen by Sarah…read moreDeForest MD. Based on publicly available information she does not appear to have completed her residency until 2022 and the visit felt like I was dealing with a provider who was still early in her career. This was a telemed visit that lasted about 18 minutes. During that time Dr DeForest made confident statements about how certain medications work that were medically incorrect. I pointed out the factual error calmly. The response was defensiveness rather than professionalism and the visit ended with an added E M complexity add on charge. There was also little awareness or consideration of pre authorizations and the small but important adjustments that are often required to align care with insurance coverage. Those details matter to patients and overlooking them creates unnecessary friction and cost. That add on is meant for additional complexity tied to ongoing longitudinal care not as a surcharge because a patient politely challenges a factual mistake. It came across like I was being billed for speaking up. I tried to resolve this through Samaritan. Billing did not provide a clear explanation despite repeated attempts. The E M complexity add on was later removed but other changes to the billing appeared after the fact which raised serious concerns about how the charges were being handled and documented. After getting nowhere internally I filed a complaint with the Oregon Medical Board and it is under review. I am not claiming to outrank an M D. I am saying I know when I am being brushed off and then billed for the privilege. I left feeling misadvised dismissed and with serious concerns about both the clinical professionalism and the billing practices.

I was some what enjoying my experience with De Forest. She often would claim she didn't say she…read morewould do something and then after insisting on my end would finally go back to the visit notes and was always like oh my bad yeah ok I'll do that. But now it's affected my immediate health and well being. I requested a refill through my pharmacy and they said I didn't have any so they would need to request it from my doctor's office and they sent over a request. As I always do when this happens - I called the clinic and informed them that I need a refill and my pharmacy has sent over a request. I do this because I know I have to hand hold them through the process a little bit to get my medication filled but this time they ignored it for a week. I called every day and finally my pharmacy called and they also had to leave a message. Message after message after message was left. "I'm so sorry I understand your frustration" do you? Do you know what it's like to go without your medication? To get sick from withdrawal? On top of this it's for mental health. Do you know what it's like to go on and off those types of medications and how dangerous it can be? You would think they would know but instead they claimed I didn't call until Thursday when no one on my team is in the office and that only my pharmacy had requested it. Only!? First of all wrong. I also called. And second why is my pharmacy requesting it on my behalf not enough? Isn't that the appropriate process? And on top of all of this when I did call initially and every time after I was told I did have refills until August and they don't understand the request from my pharmacy. Well if it's approved already then why don't you simply send it over again because the pharmacy clearly didn't get it! Completely unacceptable. My pharmacist was flabbergasted. He said "I don't understand why they didn't just get on the phone with me if there was a problem." Yeah. I don't understand any of this either.
