The Vintage Garden Kitchen - Shrimp Creole Stew

OMG, how did this place not already have their own business listing on Yelp? For shame! Though I am…read morehappy to get a chance to be the first to review Vintage Garden Kitchen on Yelp, because this is an absolute *gem* of a business, and everyone in the world needs to know about it. Yesterday afternoon, I saw a tweet reminding people to place orders before 4pm, because today (Wednesday) is the day they deliver - yes, that's right, deliver! - their jars of amazingly delicious, healthy, vegetarian-friendly, locally sourced, and [insert list of superlatives and synonyms for the word awesome] soup. Straight from their garden, via the kitchen, to your door. Thanks to the reminder on Twitter, I placed my order online yesterday afternoon for four pints of soup: Fiery Shiitake Mushroom and Barley; Moroccan Chickpea Stew; Rustic Vegetable Bean; and Vegan Lentils and Greens. Each pint comes in a re-usable mason jar, and when you collect six of those, you get a free pint of soup with your next order! Brilliant: it's savvy (saves the business money), and green, and convenient. There's so much win here that I'm having a hard time putting it into words. Long story sort: The Vintage Garden Kitchen is an Arc Enterprises Company, meaning that not only do they provide amazing food (AND DELIVER IT TO YOUR DOOR!), but also, in doing so they provide employment for adults with developmental disabilities. (They're one of the businesses run by the nonprofit Arc of Greater New Orleans.) I've seen the garden where they grow all the food that is used to make these amazing soups, and it blows my mind that food this fresh, this nutritious, and this beautifully convenient is available in New Orleans. But wait, it gets better: their food is shockingly affordable. A half pint of, say, Moroccan Chickpea Stew feeds 2 people, and costs $4.99. The minimum order for delivery is $15, so for four pints I paid about $22.00, and it was delivered the very next day. How. Awesome. Is. That. Seriously. They deliver every Wednesday between 10am and 2pm, and orders must be placed before 4pm on Tuesday to ensure delivery. They deliver to 70001, 70005, 70115, 70118, 70119 (yay!), 70124, and 70125. Again, the minimum order for delivery is $15 (so, approximately three pints, or two quarts, blah blah math and stuff). They take credit cards, it's easy to place an order online, and you can also order in two other ways. Either pre-order for pick-up (and you can come get your soups between 8am and 4pm M-F), or if you don't want to pre-order, you can simply stop by during business hours. Walk-ins are welcome, too! So...yeah. Amazing, amazing, amazing. I'm so glad the Vintage Garden Kitchen exists. I highly recommend you give them a try. Then you, too, can write your very own rave review of this freaking awesome local business. Well done, Vintage Garden Kitchen. Well done. And THANKS!

Bring back your mason jars (I think if you bring 10 back you get a pint free) & bring your leftover grocery/walmart/target/etc bags to help them out as well. SO MANY great soups!!! Some of my favorite are the Yellow Split Pea soup, Mushroom and Asparagus, Moroccan Chickpea Stew; Rustic Vegetable Bean, Roasted Buternut Squash, Chicken & Andouille Gumbo, Sweet Roasted Pepper & Carrot, Veggie Tortilla Soup, Smothered Chicken with Rice & Greens - SO MANY GREAT SOUPS!!!! The location is a little out of the way, on Labarre south of Airline Highway across the railroad tracks, but definetly worth the trip!!!!

Mostly because they almost seem to change their policies on shipping certain items. Once I had to ship 3 battery powered navigation lights to Vera Cruz. I left the box unsealed so they can inspect. 5 minutes later I had the shipping receipt and all is well. fast forward a few months. This time it was 4 of the same lights. Different clerk. They refused to ship it because it had lithium batteries. So did the other lights form last time but different interpretation of the policy. A few months ago I sent a few quarts of a specially tinted paint used on our boats. Cant be found in Mexico. Copyright thing I guess. Anyways, no problem shipping, Fast forward to yesterday. (nice twist huh? I had to ship some two part paint / epoxy cans. They refused. Categorized as dangerous goods. I wish I kept the past shipping tickets to point out the inconsistency with the rules but it wouldn't of mattered. Them guys are just doing their job and no bitching can change their minds. They can be a serious PITA with the safety culture but it is what it is. Make sure you check ahead of time that your goods can be moved because it is way out of the way from Belle Chasse to be turned away.

Fast and efficient service! Got my package days before it was supposed to arrive. Never have had a…read moreproblem with DHL.

In November 2022 we lost my brother suddenly. It was an incredibly painful time for my family and…read moreit was incredibly challenging planning a New Orleans funeral from Atlanta. We reached out to this provider to cater the post-funeral gathering of grieving family members. She informed us that she was available and as such we booked her services by paying for her services in full. A week prior, in a tragic turn of events, my uncle also passed away. Our family made the difficult choice to hold a joint funeral to honor both my brother in law and uncle on the same day. We reached out to this provider to adjust the date, which she was fine with. Due to a number of competing priorities (i.e. coffin selection, drafting funeral programs, selecting flowers, coordinating travel for out of town family members) we forgot to provide the exact funeral start time. Instead of inquiring regarding the time that she should deliver the food this provider reached out 2 days before the funeral (on a Sunday) to inform us that she was canceling as a time had not been provided although she had been compensated already and was well aware of the date. We were absolutely shocked. Our family had 1 business day to scramble, the week of Thanksgiving (!!), to find a replacement caterer during a time when we wanted to be focused on grieving. This provider also did not proactively refund our money. When asked she agreed to refund 50% due to the late cancellation (which she initiated!!). This was not a policy that was documented in any contract we signed, and such we were able to successfully file a dispute with our card company to obtain the rest of our funds. This provider is unprofessional, dishonest, and worst of all incredibly heartless. If "0" stars was an option it would be what she deserves. DO NOT BOOK HER

This time we chose JAM'S PO-Boys & Catering. 1st off, ordering was a breeze. I spoke with the owner and she was helpful with making decisions. The food is good, and service is good. Generally, the prices are good. However, they pulled some shady crap on this most recent visit, and I can't possibly give more than 3 stars with that behavior. The menu has fountain drinks at $2.20 and bottled water for $1.35. My husband and I have been trying to avoid drinking coke etc, so we each ordered a water. The server didn't ask whether we wanted tap or bottled, brought tap, and I assumed it was free (after all, it's just tap water). We enjoyed our meal, then received the bill, with $2.20 each for the water. Had that been advertised anywhere, we would have chosen the bottled water. So, warning to anyone going to Jam's and dining in - don't order water. Or specify that you want bottled water.
