I was on a mission to find some mett (minced raw pork that is popular in Germany) to try for the first time while we were in Hamburg, but we had such little time and I didn't want to spend it travelling around looking for some. We were staying nearby Wandsbek Markt for the Oktobefest celebrations at Wandsbeker Wiesn, and I was so happy to find out there was a Dat Backhus location just a minute or two away, downstairs in the underground station.
I didn't realize it was a bakery chain, which made it all the better. I grabbed a ready-made sandwich to-go. It had fresh bread, mett, mayo, and chopped raw onions. Simple, hearty and filling, and a surprisingly amazing lifesaver from a hangover from hell. It was just what I needed, and pretty cheap, too! read more
