I was quite satisfied with the instruction, as it has allowed me to pass both my A1 and A2 ÖSD tests, with good scores (91 on my A1 test and 89 on my A2) and has prepared me for my B1 test which I will take soon (tests required by Austria for residence). The school I attended is across from the Opera, a beautiful setting, with clean, well kept rooms, each with A/C and fans (sometimes the A/C was not working so well, but each room has several fans which kept the air moving and a comfortable working atmosphere). The office staff was always friendly, helpful and all I dealt with, spoke very good English, so it was easy to get information and schedule classes. Their course pricing is less expensive than most in Vienna, without sacrificing quality, with the many courses and varied schedules to select from, it made choosing Deutch Akadamie easy. The instructors I had were great! I was fortunate enough to have the same instructor for A2-1 through B1-2 (Anita V.) which was quite helpful. My first instructor was equally as good, she only was teaching the A1 series. I have attended several other language schools and found Deutsch Akadamie to be the best overall. I would very much recommend this language school to anyone wanting to learn German.

The teachers and classes were great--no problem there. But the woman they had me stay with was a piece of work. She began the relationship being very nice but gradually began to get increasingly annoyed with me. I had no idea what I was doing wrong (since she would never tell me why she was being so bitchy), so I would buy her things--candy, flowers, etc. to "apologize" for whatever I had done. She would be really nice again when I bought her something--for a few days. Four or five mood cycles later, I finally got it. She wanted more money on the side in addition to what I had paid the school to stay with her. I couldn't afford to pay more and ended up moving out to a hotel a few days before the end of my stay (which I could charge and worry about later). She apologized to me when I left--something about "these things just happen sometimes". A stunningly poor apology considering the shame I felt in somehow making Americans look ? and the discomfort of living with a stranger in a foreign country who clearly acted as though she didn't like me most of the time. I didn't mention it to the school at the time, feeling sure that I was doing something wrong and not wanting to get kicked out. By the time I understood, my stay was almost up anyway. When I got back home and emailed them about my experience, they never responded. Clearly, I had no business being there unless I was willing to slip extra cash to my landlady during my stay.

Really a sad, angering and disheartening waste of precious money and time…read more The staff combines the stuffiness and pretension of European-city stereotypes, with the incompetence and laziness of hillbillies. I cannot express the frustration of my four-month, nightmarish experience with them. They placed my living accommodations in an ugly part of town after advertising the "beauty of Vienna," switched my arrangement with the Vienna Conservatory at the last minute to be far lesser than advertised, and disdainfully never lifted a finger to help or to even partially compensate me when I told them I wanted to vacate two weeks in (they could have easily rented my room and given my spot in class to someone in the next 3.5 months, but instead they effectively kept me there! For that long!) On the human side, as opposed to financially, I never got any sort of remote apology for having rendered an unsatisfactory service, and I suspect they're small enough to react to this bad review without any concern rather than with any sort of earnestness, or so my previous interactions with them have led me to believe. It has the workings of a nice program, but the staff (the teachers are just fine!) is so stuffy, lazy and unaccommodating, I genuinely would NOT recommend this school to anyone looking for a good language-learning experience in a German-speaking location. It was overall a huge scam and one of the worst experiences I've had abroad; I was very unhappy. It gave me a bad taste for Viennese culture. Aloof, cold, pretentious, lazy and entitled. And much of it is a sort of fake Disney caricature for tourists anyway. I mean this in a heart-felt way, please heed this and do not waste your valuable time. A WWT language course is no bulk good. The personal support of each customer, no matter whether private customer, embassy, company ... is dear to my heart. A personal counseling interview, the flexible scheduling, the customized program development as well as the professional individual counseling by the language trainer and taking seriously each setback, not only on paper and in advertisement, but practically implemented, each day, with each customer are also part of the success. Each customer feels to be personally noticed. That is the key to success. 4) What would you give young people to take with them? Effort, frankness, purposefulness, creativity, patience, imaginativeness and engagement, realizing own visions ... that proves to be successful! Do never rest on the supposed biggest success... further bigger successes can follow! I am in week 2 of 10 of my German classes at IKI and so far I am very impressed. My class is a good…read moresize (only 12 people) with a teacher who is a native Austrian. The German we learn is Hochdeutsch but we also learn Austrian equivalents where applicable which I appreciate since after all we do live in Austria and not Germany! The lessons are a good mix between activities/games and grammar constructions so learning is never too heavy. The price for 10 weeks of evening classes is 360 EUR which is very reasonable and is convenient for professionals who can only study on an evening. The classes run from 6pm-8pm either on a Monday and Wednesday or on a Tuesday and Thursday depending on your level. Levels are established via an online test before you sign up. Course material is also included in the price. As an added bonus, IKI is located opposite the main Opera House in the first district - excellent location, not only beautiful but convenient for public transport links! (IKI also has a second building a 5 minute walk from here depending on which class you will be taking). This school was recommended to me by two people and I would definitely recommend it to others.
