We had an enjoyable bit of lunch,…read morethen spotted flags outside of a shop declaring it was Mad Hatters Cupcakes and Tea Room, which had me floating over like a moth to a flame for a little dessert! It has a nice big window allowing the tearoom to be well lit, and seen clearly from the outside, making it all the more inviting. The first thing you see as you walk in is the fantastic blackboard wall full of hand drawn chalk images of quirky scenes from Alice in Wonderland, and various picture frames containing images of cupcakes, signs saying "eat me" and the such. A really nice touch. It's nice that despite being Mad Hatter/Alice in Wonderland themed, they haven't gone absolutely crazy with colour and made it gaudy and horrid, but have gone for some vintage touches, and soft varying pastel colours and bunting, to take the Mad Hatter and soften him a little into a vintage English tearoom. As expected, the space is light, bright and relaxed as various mirrors bounce light around the room. Large and impressive cakes sit on cake stands and bell jars dotted around the space, and on the counter sits a display stand of delicious cupcake varieties. Staff are friendly and welcoming, and happy to reel off the various tea flavours when I asked what was available. The menu has both hot and cold drinks, and offers breakfasts, salads, sandwiches and light lunches, as well as a full afternoon tea. In this instance, we can't stop looking at a large salted caramel cake which seems to be giving us the eye from a stand on one side of the room, and decide to have a slice each, and share a pot of tea. The cake was delicious, and we were offered cream with them too should we want it. It was marvellously sweet and tasty without veering off into "sickly" territory, and naturally it went perfectly with a big pot of tea, which was served with traditional vintage china. Staff were friendly and social, and informed us that they have only been open for around 5 weeks, so everything was still settling, but from what I can see, they're doing very well, and should hopefully continue to do so! Although this was only a fleeting and unplanned visit, we enjoyed it, and agreed that we will definitely pop back in whenever we are next in Blackburn, especially as I had my eye on a strawberries and cream cake that was flirting with me from a cake stand on the opposite side of the room, in all its lovely pink splendidness... The best Patissier and Chocolatier in North Manchester…read more Any time I drive into Manchester (which is very often) I have to drive past Slattery's and always manage to make some excuse to pop in. I shouldn't have to make an excuse to go here - It's excellent. The ground floor is their outstanding chocolate and cake shop - definitely worth spending some time here tasting and choosing what they have on offer. Their selection of over 40 celebration cakes on display are stunning - you'll find yourself staring at them like some sort of art. A few of the wedding cakes are pushing £1,000.. asking if it would be worth it? For me, yes! Their cakes are amazing - no wonder Wayne Rooney bought his wedding cake from here and had it shipped to Italy. You'll find me with my face pressed up against the viewing window where you can watch the cake decorators working hard to perfect these masterpieces *drool* I'm certainly not planning my wedding or anything but I already know that there's a massive possibility that my cake will be from here. On the first floor is an elegant restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and of course CAKE. The menu is fab and I haven't heard anybody mention a bad word about it. I have yet to visit the restaurant and I hear that unless you book weeks in advance you've no chance of getting in, but this only makes me want to try it even more and it is certainly on my list. In the past I have bought baskets from here and made my own hampers, mainly for family or friends at Christmas time - consisting of chocolates, hand make cakes, biscuits, marmalades, wines etc (all locally sourced). Safe to say these always go down well. If you have a sweet tooth, this is somewhere you should definitely visit.

The Eaves lane shop has recently undergone a dramatic refurbishment when the main shop was taken over by the Spar group, leaving the main pie and sandwich shop intact. Avery busy venue, the quality of its produce speaks volumes, we use it as a weekly treat and enjoy meat and potato pies, with a jam slice. You can aslo choose hot soups, cakes, sandwiches and if you have a special occasion they will make and ice birthday or celebration cakes. They have also further branched into the catering business and cater for outside events. They also run a couple of small outlets. Ever popular,i can't see them ever going out of business.

We went in, sat down and the breakfast menu was pretty good. Got ordered and when it came it was great. I just went for a basic sausage barm with an orange juice as it was super hot. The barm was proper home made ... but if a chew to it which was awesome and the sausage were lovely. Also got some basic toast and it was home made bloomer with butter than that was delicious. The cake and pastry cabinet by the film looked lovely. We were the first in so it was quiet, but a bit later on a few more people came and it looks like it can get really busy but it's a good place so deffo will get busy.

They're constantly making fresh batches of loaves, cobs, bloomers and buns, and all for a great price. They have a few shelves of "yesterday's bake" so you can still catch things while they're fresh (and they're still soft and perfect!), and a "grab them whilst your can" set of shelves, where you can grab the items which are at the end of their selling life (but again, still perfect and soft and amazing! Any other shop would have these as 'fresh' still), and you can get them at a reduced price... ie a lovely quality white or wholemeal loaf may only be 50p on this shelf, and pack of 4 hot cross buns on the 'yesterday's bake' shelf are £1, so for £1.50 you have an artisan loaf and fresh artisan hot cross buns (which will spoil you so much that normal hot cross buns from the supermarket will just not compare ever again!). I highly recommend them. They have friendly and knowledgeable staff, great variety of products, and you can occasionally find them hosting a stall at food festival markets.

Used to be the favourite haunt for me and my siblings when we lived closer however unfortunately now I can't make it as often, only once a week.. I always get Meat & Potato Pasties, occasionally one as a Pasty Barm and they normally don't last the drive home. They girls behind the counter are a good laugh as well and always lively and full of beans! If you have room they have a great selection of bakery treats and cakes. The cakes are lovely and I particularly like them as some of them seem to be home made, like I used to have when I was little. The bread is fresh everyday and I visit daily to stock up. I also like the pork dinky pies, which we have at week-end. There is alot of meat inside, they are not just all pastry. The staff are helpful and courteous and I never have to queue. Parking is difficult as it is on the main road, you have to park on a side street. Recommended.

I Love Cheesecake!…read more I have indulged in the pleasure of eating many cheesecakes from a variety of vendors, and I can say, hand on heart that, the Manchester Cheesecake Company produces the best cheesecakes! I had the pleasure of trying a (mini) cheesecake from here when he had a stall at the University of Manchester market, which occurred every Tuesday during the Semester. Although, the Manchester Cheesecake Company, was only there fortnightly, Pietro, the man behind the company, quickly became a favourite vendor for the whole of my office. The first cheesecake I tried was the hazelnut chocolate one, mainly because I love any hazelnut and chocolate combo! It was a nice creamy rich chocolate with a Ferrero Rocher on top. How amazing does that sound! Although, it was a little sweet for me, it was still delicious! The next time the cheesecake man came to visit, I thought I would go for a plain cheesecake with a fruity topping, and these cheesecakes were even better! Amazing! I bought the blueberry cheesecake, which contained blueberry within the cheesecake itself! I think this is my favourite! The cheesecake is relatively standard, but the taste is unbelievable! The other cheesecake I sampled (because I bought it for my girlfriend, of course!), was the strawberry cheesecake. This had a nice strawberry mousse in the middle with half a strawberry resting on top. Here is a tip: Let the cheesecake sit in the fridge for a day (if you can!) to let the mousse settle, and then it would be absolutely delicious! The market is no longer on, but my office now has cheesecake delivered every two weeks. Yes the company delivers! I called on Wednesday and asked if they could prepare a cake for that Friday and they were very nice about it. All I had to do was email the details of what I wanted to their main email and they sent me a confirmation. One of the best parts is that they actually delivered the cake to my house! I'm a student and I don't have a car so this was a huge help! When the cheesecake arrived it looked gorgeous with raspberry swirls and fresh raspberries on top. Everyone loved the cake and it tasted delightful! I would definitely order another cake from them in the future. It also was great that their prices are extremely affordable. So many cake shops in Manchester charge 30+ pounds for a cake and this cake was only 18 pounds. A very reasonable price for the quality. Order from here, you will not regret it!
