I do not recommend going on Thursdays for the food donations. The food they pick up THEY take by the box full. After standing in line for sometimes over an hour and watching what was donated go right into their cars you are told you can only pick 1 thing from each table from what is left after the "volunteers " take their boxfuls. As an Interfaith chaplain who served Muslim patients in a nearby hospital, I visited this most wonderful, humble and loving masjid to learn more about Islam and I discovered some very sweet people who are very respectful, open-minded, and a delight to sit with. I attend women's prayers on Friday as much as possible. I have been given good resources to work with patients, and greatly appreciate the time I spent with Tariq, the director and mighty angel of this mosque. He answered many of my questions and introduced me to many people. I value the wisdom and love of this masjid and recommend it highly to anyone seeking to know more about Islam in an open-minded way that celebrates life, community and love. read more

I love this masjid. It is a pretty diverse group of Muslims, with many Arabs but also Malaysians and Indonesians, Pakistanis, etc. And of course some Caucasian converts to Islam like me. The people at this mosque are very welcoming and kind, which is important for new Muslims. They will gently guide and correct mistakes made, not criticizing but helping one another. The imam is much like the rest of the congregation. He is very approachable (which is not always the case at other mosques). He really seems to care when people are struggling and he gives good advice. He has helped me with religious issues and questions and also personal issues (from an Islamic perspective of course). I know that another reviewer wrote that the board members of this masjid are always asking for donations. I really haven't felt this way. They do mention the need for donations at the end of jummuah sometimes but I don't feel that they are asking in a high pressure way. I have heard the imam mention that they have loans to pay which is true since they purchased this property which was previously a church and then converted it into a masjid only a couple of years ago. The money has to come from somewhere so I think they have to at least ask for donations. But I have never had anyone come directly to me or my husband and ask for money. It is more like occasional general announcements made after jummuah. I would highly recommend this masjid to anyone looking for a friendly, welcoming masjid. I honestly don't know what the imam's formal training is but his khutbahs are very good and informative. My husband is Egyptian and grew up in Egypt. He watches various lectures about the religion from scholars at Al Azhar University and he said the khutbahs are accurate and informative. read more

I first attended Arabic school at this masjid at it's old location when I was just 8 years old and I haven't been able to leave this community 18 years later. I absolutely adore this new location. The space is fantastic and is wisely used creating a youth center, a library, a full kitchen, a large patio area with picnic tables and tents, many classrooms and much more. It's consistently clean, provides ample parking, and is in a safe residential community in Walnut Creek. The knowledge and expertise is on another level. These board members are knowledgable about the Islam religion as whole and listen and understand some of the daily struggles that we all face (including conflicts between real world and religion). They hold regular open educational sessions, offer tutoring services, and provide their personal time which they could be doing other stuff to do outreach (like feeding the needy, cleaning up our community streets, and fundraising for several different charities all over the world). I have had opposing points of view on a few occasions (previously being one of the younger members and not as religious as many of the members) and have grown into a role there that cannot be fulfilled by my career or other communities I belong to yet throughout the times I've held opposing points of view, I have still felt like I was still completely heard in the situations by multiple people, that my needs were addressed, and that compromises were made. My favorite part? The community feeling I get attending a place like this. There are several people and they welcome anyone, (Muslim or not!) with open hands, hearts, and an easy ear that genuinely cares for it's members. If you're a new face, someone (usually a friendly board member) will greet you and assist in your needs whether one is just interested in observing, someone wanting to become a member, fulfilling community service hours, converting to Islam, or just simply doing a school project of some sort. The weekly gatherings in which food is served also don't hurt! Overall, I think this place is a secret, sacred, jewel that allows for a safe, secure, welcoming, relaxing, engaging, and open environment where I enjoy spending my time at! read more

I have been attending this masjid for two months now since i moved to the area. People i met are vey kind and welcoming, they greet and talk to you. There's been iftar dinner served every evening during ramadan and there are lots of projects going on to optimize the facility. All in all its a very nice international community where you can get in touch with other fellows in walnut creek area and beyond. read more

I really appreciate the work which has been put in this mosque and I love praying in this Masged. However I have one comment which is the answering service on the phone. It should always be updated for example we are now the 4th of October and still the message on the phone is the prayer of Eid al Fetr and its timing. Instead I think you should aware people of salat Al- Gum3ah timing. And very soon will be Salat Eid Al Ad7a information. Thank you for understanding. read more

unfortunately i have been a member in Daulislam masjid WCIC for the last 3 years and finally decided to leave that masjid with no regret except for the money that i had to pay for that so called (masjid board)! yes, i can confidently say that those people took my money as others members or non members as they kept asking for donations for a long time now and they had been conducting many fundraising events claiming that they need to pay the loan to complete the purchase of the masjid building. Those people that claims they are the (board members) sadly are just running the masjid as their (family owned business) meaning that there is hardly any contact with the community except when they are holding a fundraising so they start chasing and bugging people to pay money! there are no transparency with community regarding where and how they spent that money they collected from people! and if anyone happened to ask anyone of them or inquiring about how the board is operated (i.e elections, open positions......etc) they would just repent anyone from asking any questions claiming that they decided to close the board election door for indefinite time refusing any ideas from outside their group. they do not even hold ANY COMMUNITY MEETING AT ALL as if they are afraid of hearing the community members opinions and requests! unfortunately and sadly one of them( the board members) is impersonating the Imam and he barely can read Quraan the right way any imam should do(making many mistakes that a 6 years old kid cant miss), besides,which is a disaster that fake imam (which originally works as an engineer) started already lecturing people about fiqh and sunna (i.e islamic studies) and even giving fatwas (creeds) and he has 0 background nor knowledge to pursue the imam (i.e Muslim leader) position. After many fundraising events and many false promises from those people in the board regarding hearing the voices of their own community, the only thing they are after is gathering donations, donations and more donations without being clear about their spending and no one dare to ask because they are very rude, aggressive and arrogant in the way they treat their community and they would answer you that IT IS NON OF YOUR BUSINESS. The only time they are acting nice is when they ask you for money donations leaving you with guilt feeling because you are not support your own community mosque!!! After 3 unfruitful disappointed years being member in that masjid i decide to leave them advising anyone thinking about joining their community DO NOT. The only reason I give the masjid 1 star is because i liked to pray there (after all it is a worship place) the place has a nice lay out praying are, clean bathrooms and many facilities like a library, classrooms and a youth center BUT (please pay attention to BUT) if only the masjid owners I mean the board members open those facilities( except off course bathrooms) as they usually close the facilities and keep the keys (there are digital locks on doors!) even the prayer place is often closed specially in the day time. As for the youth center, if ever the kids get to go there they would start yelling at them to leave the place as they make a mess and make it dirty and the one of the board member would complain to the parents to prevent their kids to use the center and clean it right away or do not use the facility ever! Like I mentioned they are acting like the masjid owner rather than the masjid's board member as they always say :(this is our masjid , we pay most of its purchase value , no one has the right but us to take decisions concerning this masjid...etc) In the matter fact, they are ILLEGAL board since the last election was almost 6 years! They are basically a bunch of Arab friends that do not allow any diversity inside the board, meaning that there is no election, voting...etc, they just appointing board positions to each other and taking decisions over a tea party or a dinner invitation! No one in the community ever heard about a masjid board meeting nor election event! They simply think that the masjid is their own property and they are the only ones who should be in charge and the others should only listen to them an do not interfere with their decisions nor their point of view! So (in their opinion), in order for any one to become a good masjid member he or she should come to the masjid to pray , pay donations and be nice and no demands nor questions asked or else he or she will be a bad bad guy! I think this is not a healthy environment that should be present in a worship house because we should look forward to the masjid as not only a place for prayer but a place to purify souls, renew spirits and to learn as well our kids the values of our religion and come together and being united , unfortunately i founded that to be extremely difficult working in such atmosphere in the masjid. I am not abstaining anyone from praying in WCIC masjid after all it is Allah house. read more
