This Darty location is conveniently found on the bustling Avenue des Ternes in the 17th arrondissement. They sell a large selection of electronics, including TVs, computers, kitchen and housekeeping gadgets, and accessories such as phone cases. The entire downstairs area is basically a showroom for kitchen/housekeeping electronics, where you can browse through the floor models and then either purchase (or order) the ones you want.
The first time I stopped by was on a Sunday afternoon in mid-December 2019, and I wanted to buy a rice cooker and a new phone case. I had previously been to the nearby Fnac, where I'd found 1 rice cooker model on offer but ultimately decided I didn't want to wait in the huge, pre-Christmas lines at the cash register. Darty looked much less busy, and it turned out they also had more options. After I located the floor model I wanted, it took several minutes to flag down an employee to help me. When I did finally get someone's attention, the employee was friendly and efficient. He scanned the model I wanted and let me know that it wasn't available in the store but I could order it. Since I didn't want to wait, I asked him to check if another model was available in-store and ultimately purchased that one when he saw that it was. (Both models were around 50€.)
After paying, I brought my receipt to the pickup station, where another employee took the relevant information and brought me my item from the storeroom. They had a way of fixing a handle to the box to make it easier to carry home, which was pretty neat. After that, I went up to the 1st floor and bought the phone case separately. The check-out staff on the 1st floor aren't really friendly or efficient, although they aren't outright rude either. The 2nd time I came into the store (about a week later), to buy a power strip, the cashier managed to ring me up without saying a single word to me, as she was simultaneously dealing with another customer on the phone. Pretty impressive, and I guess everyone was busy with the holiday volume.
A very convenient place to get some electronics if you're in the area. The service isn't spectacular, but it'll get you where you need to be. There's plenty of other shops nearby, so you can get all your shopping done in 1 trip if you plan well enough. It seems if you have any old electronics that you'd like to recycle, you can also bring them here. read more
