I visited her…read moretowards the end of last year as a new patient and she spent about 30 minutes getting to know me before checking everything that I asked her to. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

After my motorcycle accident in 2009 Dr. Karmali checked up on me and worked with my medical records from Harborview to continue with my pain management care. To this day she still works closely with me on this care and has been very good at keeping an eye out for my health and well being and continues to work with my pain management doctor at Harborview. Dr. Karmali set me up with MyChart (available to all Swedish patients) when I moved back to WA and through that I am able to discuss issues with her without having to make an appointment to go into the clinic (I'm already there enough as it is!) and she is quick to get back to me usually same day but definitely within 24 hours. She even responds on her days off and to me, that is complete dedication and proves just how much she cares about her patients. I have recommended her to a couple of friends and they love her as well. Dr. Karmali is very knowledgeable and caring. If she is unsure of something she will investigate the issue to ensure that you get the best possible care. She is just an amazing doctor and an even more amazing person.

    High Point

Frustrated with Appointment Handling…read more I am very disappointed with Highpoint Medical staff on September 11, 2025. I had an appointment scheduled for 3:15 PM, made a week and a half in advance, already delaying care for a medical concern because that was the soonest available time. When I arrived, I was told the provider was out sick. I was informed that "we called you," but I never received any message. Even if I had, the issue remains -- I still needed to be seen. When I asked what my options were, the only response was essentially "the provider is sick." No alternatives, no backup plan, no advice, no option to wait and be seen by another provider. When I asked when I could be seen, I was told the next available appointment wasn't until September 19th -- another full week of waiting. So, everyone who had an appointment that day was simply pushed out another week, as if our health concerns did not matter. This felt disrespectful and dismissive, as though my appointment and my medical needs were unimportant. A clinic should have a backup plan for patients when a provider is unexpectedly unavailable. Sadly, this experience showed a lack of preparation and care for patient needs.

I have never had a worse experience seeking medical help in my life. My doctor, Katherine Fate,…read morekept me waiting for an hour to see her; then acted like she'd never seen me before (she's been my doctor for 3 years now). She couldn't get me out of the room fast enough and addressed none of my concerns, but was quite willing to re-up my prescriptions that are no longer effective - and was one of the concerns I wanted to address with her! I'm going to have to try to find a new doctor now - no easy task since I'm on Medicare. I feel like a second class citizen. And my anxiety and depression are just awful. If I have a stroke or something, this poor care will be the reason why.

After searching through the first page of my "in network" providers, I quickly got tired at the prospect of sifting through 50 more pages. So, I did what any reasonable person would do when it comes to finding a doc...I closed my eyes, threw a dart and picked a name. On a serious note, Dr. Friedmann was voted best doc in 2002, so I figured like wine, you can only get better with age. I went in, he did his thing, and I walked out. Overall, a pretty painless experience (aside from the blood draw). He's a nice, warm, fuzzy guy. Two thumbs up.

I recently saw Dr. Friedmann at the Polyclinic in Ballard. I had been having severe intermittent…read moreleg pain that I couldn't relieve with any amount of Aleve, ice, heat, rest, etc. It was the strangest thing and I was hesitant to see a doctor because I could barely even describe the discomfort I was having and wasn't sure what help I would be able to get. Lucky me, I ended up getting an appointment with Dr. Friedmann. He took so much time and care to try to understand the issue I was having despite my inability to articulate it. He made sure to understand my overall health, activity levels, recent travels and all of the other outside factors that might be causing my pain. I have recently felt so rushed by all of the doctors I've seen but Dr. Friedmann made me feel like I was his only patient. While we never got to the root cause of my pain, he made sure to rule out any possibly dangerous causes and provided me with a prescription and treatment plans to try. Then the most amazing thing happened...I got an unsolicited phone call from him 2 days after my appointment to see how I was doing!!! I'm feeling much better now thanks to Dr. Friedmann. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone in search of a smart, thoughtful and genuinely caring doctor.
