Overpriced. I was charged $350.00 for a simple, basic tax return. It only took him 30 minutes to…read moreprepare. Pathetic. It was the first and last time I use Liberty Tax. It normally cost me between 100-150 to get my taxes done in the past from a private tax preparer, H&R and Turbo Tax. Never again. Not only was I overcharged but I was given vouchers for $50.00 to recruit anyone to their services. Absolutely not, I will not recommend LT to anyone.

While he was personable towards us, he was not particularly competent in his area of expertise. Long story short, later in the year we received correspondence from the IRS, alerting us that we were on the hook for an additional ~$1,000 as our return was filed improperly (due to the improper reporting of state unemployment compensation, emerging from the pandemic). I researched the issue, talked with the IRS, contacted the corporate and local office by phone and letter and insisted that they honor their guarantee and pay the penalty ("If there is an error in the preparation of your return that results in penalties and interest, we will reimburse you for the associated penalty and interest initially assessed."). They denied responsibility (though they were completely at fault) and put blame on opaque IRS guidelines. After a lot of back and forth, I decided to eat the cost, having recouped only a small fraction. Very disappointing: steer clear.
