But after 3 1/2 years of me feeding this case 10's of thousands and it creeping along, I complained. He was also helping me in another case, and I was not happy with him at either. I remember Shawn complaining to the judge that I was breaking attorney-client privilege with some of my rhetoric, and I thought, oh boy,y I'm in trouble, but the judge fired back at him, "It's his privilege," meaning he (Shawn) can't complain. Anyway, he dropped me in the DC federal case and said I didn't have the money to go on, had health issues, and staff issues. I was not happy with what I felt were mistakes on his end, so I asked Who would you recommend. I want to go with his recommendation because had I lost I didn't want Shawn saying he had dome a great job, but who I chose to go with after was the guy that screwed it up. Well, that guy charged MORE THAN TWICE as much as Shawn per hour, and didn't even have support staff that charged less for the mundane work. So obviously Shawn realized that money was not the real reason for dropping me, especially since I've been feeding this new guy for over a year, part of which was to fix things he says Shawn should not have done. So, can I recommend Shawn Bartley? in a word, "No", is he a nice guy? "Yes" But that's not why you hire an attorney. Perhaps later I will expand this review. Furthermore, I was required to pay the final fee before having a consultation or seeing any documents. The materials I eventually received did not align with my intentions, but rather reflected a literal interpretation of the forms. A brief consultation prior to drafting would have been far more efficient. Additionally, the subsequent revisions took several weeks and resulted in documents containing both graphical and factual errors. While I have now received the final versions, I remain concerned about their accuracy and have little confidence in their legal integrity.

My experience with Eric Wexler was below expectations. I setup a consultation for a question…read morearound doing a Roth IRA conversions. It involved some partial rollovers into qualified plan from IRA preceding the conversion. I had done a bit of research but wanted an expert to validate the specifics of my situation. While other attorneys I've met with in the past on other topics have a free consultation to validate they are in a position to help; Eric charges $250 for the initial conversation which is an in person meeting. He doesn't offer a first 5-10 minute phone discussion to ensure he is a fit or the need. After about a week, he called to say what I was specifically trying to do wouldn't work. I requested him to send any specific reference to the law section; IRS publication; or articles as his evaluation was contrary to what I was finding myself. He said he would send me something, but never got back to me. There was some additional up and back with questions as I sent him some IRS material after he never got back to me per above. Eric is not responsive, going weeks without a reply. He emailed me on Nov 9th apologizing that he'd been on a big project, and would reply soon. It is now Dec 2nd and still not heard. My perception is that my question was not in Eric's wheelhouse, familiarity with current rulings regarding rollovers to qualified plans from an IRA of earnings, leaving the basis behind in an IRA. In the end I felt like I wasted time and $250 without clarity. To his credit, at least he never asked for more than the initial consultation fee. But regardless I still feel as though I don't have a solid answer and would he would have been better for him to simply decline to engage on the topic during the initial meeting if this wasn't the type of thing he could get to resolve quickly or he didn't have bandwidth.
