This review is a little over a decade out of date, but i'm going to write it anyway. I cannot recommend Dr. Schulze, unless he's vastly improved in the intervening years (which seems unlikely, as he wasn't fresh out of dental school or anything back then). My regular dentist decided he had too many patients, so he transferred some of us over to Dr. Schulze without really telling us (they shared an office at the time). Any time i needed a filling, the appointments took forever, often well over an hour when i'd never had a dentist take more than ~45 minutes before or since. It turns out there were two reasons he took so long: 1) he really, really likes smoothing and polishing fillings far more than necessary, and 2) he drilled out more tooth than necessary, resulting in large fillings even for tiny cavities. And the best part was that his fillings were so bad, some of them would come loose or fall out entirely within a year or two. This, of course, meant another visit to Dr. Schulze to replace it, and resulting in an even larger filling, etc. I've gone through more than a few dentists over the years, and i've never had as much trouble with any of them or their work as i had with Dr. Schulze and his work. read more

I and my entire family (two parents, three kids) have been patients of Dr Schulze for more than 20 years and I recommend him wholeheartedly for anyone looking for a dentist. He is exacting in his attention to detail and as gentle as can be. When it comes to badly damaged teeth, he emphasizes saving as much of the tooth as possible versus extraction. I had a broken molar 10 years ago, now with a partial cap that Dr Schulze did and it has been no problem since. All three of my kids love him. read more

I can't seat back and let this person Kate T. disrespect the ethically dentist Dr. Schulze really is. Kate is not a dentist she didn't go to school for eight years. When your in school you do have patients. And it's extensive amounts hours in training with professor's evaluating your work. Kate you should be very grateful that Dr. Schulze spent so much time doing your fillings. I work in the dental field and the reason why Dr. Schulze was taking "so long" was because you had extensive decay and when your a good dentist when there is extensive decay you want to remove it slow because the dentist doesn't want to disturb the nerve. If you are disturb the nerve then you need a root canal. Dr. Schulze wanted to be conservative in doing a large filling you probably needed a crown. Sometimes when there is more filling material rather than tooth structure fillings can fail. Regarding the polishing it's important that a filling is polished. You want to be able to floss and your filling to be smooth to your tongue. If you have a great dentist then you don't have to worry about overhang in the filling which causes gum irritation and it's important to make sure the filling is set correctly to your bite which that can cause a toothache or jaw pain. My duty today was to set things clear that Dr. Schulze is incorrect able dentist. I use to work with Dr. Schulze and I know a great dentist when I work with one. Dr. Schulze loves being a dentist and he is a honorable person and he values great dentistry and patient care. I Love this man! and woman (Chantal his assistant)! Dr. Schultz is one of the first dentists that I have been to in a very long time that I feel like I can trust. I have had the good fortune have having good dental insurance and I have had many dentist take advantage of that and do unnecessary work. Dr. Schultz is honest and conscientious, and does great work. Daniel Schulze is the second of only 2 dentists I've ever been to...and I'm 53 years old! My pediatric dentist kept his patients into adulthood, until he retired. At that time he recommended Dr. Schulze. I wanted a dentist who did the cleaning himself. His work is always conservative. Only drills the minimal amount needed, after thoughtful consideration. He knows I prefer not to have novocaine whenever possible. So, he advises me with that in mind. BTW... re: Kate T.'s review... my inlay lasted longer than expected. (I have a very 'heavy bite' and chew my food very thoroughly) And, he takes the time to carefully adjust and polish fillings because the patient has the best result this way. You have to live intimately with it for a long time so, it shouldn't be a distraction to the tongue or create jaw problems. I appreciate that! I also appreciate that he and Chantel don't make me feel hurried like they are running an assembly line to cram as many patients as possible into each day. It's more about my dental needs, not about making top dollar! Dr. Schulze has always shown the highest integrity and professionalism while at the same time is friendly is genuine. They both ask about family and remember details from the last visit! Unfortunately, they just don't make'um like Dr. Schulze anymore! What a shame! I switched dentists over a year ago from a very high end dentist who did wonderful work but looked for every opportunity to go the extra mile with new gadgets and new costs. Insurance was covering less and less of the costs I was experiencing. I switched to Dr Schulze on the recommendation of my wife who had been seeing him for several years and loving the service. I was told by my previous dentist that I had several silver filings that needed to be replaced and asked Dr. Schulze for his opinion. After looking at the xrays and examining my teeth he recommended that we continue to watch but he was not seeing anything that would require immediate action. I've also had teeth that were starting to become sensitive. After our discussion he again recommended that we watch them and see how they act over time. One of them eventually needed a root canal but this was only after we were 100% sure. He was very thorough in cleaning the root canal and took several pictures to insure he had the whole canal covered. I've also had a porcelain crown that cracked replaced with gold. We talked about the pros and cons with the porcelain and my disappointment in the lack of longevity. Since looks was not tops on my list I went with the gold and it should last for the rest of my life and also help pay for my funeral. :-) He is clearly not into the high $ turn and burn approach that I've seen with others. He has been consistently conservative with his recommendations and gives the patient all the information to make a decision without high pressure. He and his assistant also have a great sense of humor which makes the trips to the dentist enjoyable. It's not as enjoyable as Hawaii but at least there is genuine warmth in the relationship. read more

Dr. Shulze is amazing. In over 40 years of going to dentists, he's the very first one who took the time to show me how to brush my teeth better. He takes his time to point out the areas where I need to focus on better, and even made sure I could see them for myself. I've never been a fan of going to the dentist, but Dr. Shulze and Chantel make the experience as pleasant as possible. Dr. Shulze cleans my teeth himself, and is extremely gentle. I've got to say it's the most gentle and easy cleaning I've had out of the tens of other dentists and hygienists I've been to. At other dentists, I'd typically only see the hygienist and then have a quick visit with the dentist himself. Here, I get Dr. Shulze's full attention for each visit. I haven't had to have any significant work done on my teeth yet by Dr. Shulze (I've only been for 2 visits so far), but I'm very comfortable with him and have nothing but praise for him and his office. read more

Dr. Schulze & Chantel are the best! They are always so accomodating and professional. My kids LOVE Dr. Schulze - my littlest (6) said she wants to be a dentist because of her treatment there. I had to have a root canal (after walking around with a broken tooth for a few months (I am not a great patient)) and he fixed me up and took his time - which I totally appreciate. I have a crown that never gives me problems (over 1 year now) and I never have a hard time scheduling appointments. Chantel always gets back to me in a timely manner. After moving to the Bay Area I struggled for 2 years with dentists until I was referred to Dr. Schulze by a co-worker. He is just the right doc for me: professional, honest, conservative, gentle, friendly. I am lucky to have him as my dentist for 10 years and counting. I like that he does cleaning himself and I like how he does it. I trust him 100% whether he says "Lets watch it" or "I think we need to take care of it". All work that he had done on me (a crown, an implant, fillings) is of a good quality, it matches perfectly with my teeth, and it is long lasting (no replacements or fixes yet). Appointments are always on time. Dr. Schulze assistant Chantal always calls a day before to confirm the appointment and sends reminder cards for regular cleanings. I am writing this review after being Dr. Schultz's patient for more than three years. 1-He is an amazing dentist. He is professional, kind and honest. I have 100% trust on him. Before Dr. Schulz every 6 months, I had one dental appointment for filling or deep cleaning. But surprisingly during these three years Dr. Schulz has done just necessary works on my teeth and all my teeth are clean and healthy! Dr Schulze is the best dentist I've had in my life, and I've had many...unfortunately! He is a kind, gentle and very smart man, who is utterly trustworthy. HIs focus is 100% on prevention. He never pushes expensive procedures, as some dentists I've known have, just to make money. In fact, Dr Schultz will frequently suggest waiting, or trying more conservative alternatives first. His work is very high quality, and if something doesn't feel right, he will do it, and re-do it, until it is perfect. His long term Assistant Chantel is wonderful- very easy to work with and always pleasant and responsive. Dr. Schulze is an excellent dentist. He takes time during routine examinations to help explain and demonstrate where there may be deficiencies in your dental hygiene routine, often using the mirror to show exactly where the issue is and how to correct it. Over the years I've treated by Dr.Schulze the rate at which problems occur has dropped noticeably. I'm confident this is due to following his specific and clear corrective advice. When I do need treatment he's manages to achieve results with minimal discomfort even for significant procedures like root canal. Finally the hygiene procedures during the pandemic seem to me exemplary, hand sanitization, temperature and SpO2 screens and peroxide mouthwash for mutual protection. Overall a diligent professional who takes his work seriously and interacts with patients in a non threatening and friendly manner that encourage you to act upon his advice. read more

His dental hygenist, Marissa, does a great job cleaning my teeth. I have dental insurance but his charges do not seem excessively high, especially considering his office is located in Menlo Park. My first visit with Dr. Schulze last week was awesome. I have known his dental assistant, Chantel, for years. She suggested that I come in after I complained about the last dentist I saw. I can't say I have ever enjoyed a trip to the dentist before, but this was my most positive experience to date. Dr. Schulze told me what he was doing all along and answered my curious nerd questions in great detail. He took into consideration the fact that I was mildly traumatized from having had a root canal and periodontal surgery in the past 2 years, and made a few suggestions about how I might avoid the scaling & root planing that my previous dentist wanted to do. When I needed a small filling, he was able to do it without anesthesia. I'm not a fan of needles, so I was THRILLED when Chantel suggested doing it this way and he agreed that it should work. [I suspect that some dentists might not try this and would always default to the standard numb-drill-fill, so this tells me that he knows what he's doing and isn't trying to milk my insurance.] There aren't many reviews on here, for whatever reason, but you can see his customer survey results on demandforce if you don't trust this small sample size. It's a modest, one-dentist office, so you get very personal attention from the excellent staff. There's easy parking and the view out the exam room windows is of squirrels and trees. What more could you possibly want?? read more

I have lived out of state for ten years now and return to California over the summer months to visit. I recently had a filling replaced that developed a sharp edge to it leading me to think part of it had fallen out as well as another tooth with discoloration around the filling. I called Dr. Schulze's office in a panic and Chantel kindly made room to see me quickly. It turned out that the new filling only needed some smoothing to get rid of the edge I was feeling and the coloring I was seeing on the other tooth was normal and not a sign of decay. It was a huge relief to learn that! Like many other people, I am fearful of going to the dentist. I hate dealing with tooth pain and break into a cold sweat with knots in my stomach at nearly every dentist visit. Dr. Schulze was super gentle and calming which put me at ease and made the visit so much easier. He was very patient with answering all my random tooth questions and I left feeling a lot better. My parents and siblings switched to Dr. Schulze when he took over the retiring Dr. Tauno's patients years ago and have stayed with him ever since. With such a warm welcome, compassionate care, grounded demeanor and honesty about my teeth not needing the work I feared they did, this visit back highlights why they have kept him. If I move back to the bay area with my family, I will be making whatever trek it takes to make sure my family gets the awesome Dr. Shulze office experience. read more
