If you look behind the bar, they have shelves with all the bottles, labeled by style. We tried a few new barrel aged stouts we had never come across, some of which were solid 10/10 beers. The food puts them over the top. The cheddar burger is a tasty burger, but the fries. Oh these fries. They are so crispy, so salty, and almost pinched in the middle so they have a little curl. They are so delicious, a real treat to end a long day's wanderin'. Bonus points because all the staff we interacted with was lovely every time we visited.

I got the Salmon LT sandwich, a club with salmon as opposed to bacon. Toasted, which is common in this region of Italy. Tasty, although I might have enjoyed it with a little less cream cheese. My buddy ordered the hamburger with guacamole. The burger bordered on raw, but je enjoyed it. Staff was friendly and helpful, letting us sample some of the beers before we ordered. It's a good-sized place with tons of tables, inside and out. We arrived about 6:30, and the place was mostly empty. But it filled quickly after 7 with many folks stopping for a beer and snack after work.

The alternative splurge, was finding a bar that served some pedestrian Belgian blonde, like Grimbergen. Green River, though, is the hugest slam dunk triumph of craft brewing brilliance - - it is hard to imagine such a bold, amazing tap line up in this country. I stopped by other places in town and the more adventurous beer bars tend to have the typical "we are expanding our palate" approach - - they got a hefe, they got an amber, a pale ale, they may even have a stout (shrieks from the audience). But Green River has a bitchin' line up representing a full range of styles, from a low-abv "salty ale" (a Gose?), to a fab imperial IPA, and three with ABV over 10%. This is not a cautious, milquetoast approach to "an introduction" to craft beers - - it is a slam down seizing it by the jugular. And most of this big-time line-up of taps are Italian! It is not soaking in atmosphere, this place, it is soaking in first-class suds. Totally, totally, the bomb for beer in Bologna.

We had been looking for a bottle shop, but alas, all of them are closed on Sundays. We really wanted to get some rare Belgian beers, and out of nowhere, appeared Punto. Their bottle list read like a beer lover's fantasy novel: Cantillon, 3 Fonteinen, Westvleteren. The best part, the prices! We got a demi-bottle of Cantillon beer for 13 euros. I realize this is normal for Europe, but in the States this would cost at least 50% more - if you could find it. There is a large patio out front (for the smokers), and plenty of seating indoors as well. The inside is kind of Euro-hipster, with a variety of interesting beer posters on the walls. Punto feels like a locals-only neighborhood bar, but I did run into another couple from California while waiting in line for the restroom (typical Americans). If you are looking to get away from the tourists in the Piazza Maggiore, I recommend having a drink at Punto. It is a delightful bar, located in a very "interesting" side of town.
