First things first: this is one of the things that makes Lawrence a complete city in my opinion. In a state with a poor reputation for supporting the arts, Lawrence stands out and then some, and Theatre Lawrence is one very good reason. Don't expect amateur, the productions here are quite good, reasonably priced and access and parking first-rate. No, it's not Broadway in NYC but the tickets don't cost $300 a pop (expect $20 range) and a hotel in case you need one isn't $400 a night with $20 glasses of vino. Speaking of which, nice bar and snacks in the lobby and you can take your beverage in to the show. The sound system and mechanicals are first-rate. This place was built for one single purpose, and no, it doesn't double as a church on Sundays like the old location often did. Did I mention, not a bad seat in the entire house. Get a back row ticket? Count yourself lucky, they're good seats. Everything about this venue hits the mark in my opinion. The city is lucky to have it. Can't wait to return to the next show, but first, I'd better finish my gig in the orchestra for the current run of "Quilters."

I had a 74 year old mom who's on a cane for over 30 minutes waiting outside the wrong address. Went inside found sound guy, he said and pointed to a lady coming up. The aisle was in charge. I told her the situation and she told me oh well that's their fault, no apology nothing just a oh well and I described where it's at she said SIR, I know where it's at my office is in there. Then, she turned around and left very amazingly rude. If ANYONE speaks to this lady, tell her a COUNTED 28 people outside the wrong address, means there's a problem, and a HUGE poster on the door of the WRONG PLACE doesn't solve it. ANYONE, with common sense, would've put the RIGHT ADDRESS on that poster on door so people don't think it's there at the wrong place and have to deal with the INCREDIBLY RUDE LADY that all she had to do was say its obviously a issue that i will look into it. The show says it's in RUBY THEATRE - WRONG THEATRE AND WRONG ADDRESS. BUT AMAZING SOUND OF MUSIC SHOW! I NEVER have been there, BUT I've heard other people saying they did the same thing in the past. Can someone ABOVE the rude lady look into the issue? She made it clear she doesn't care a tiny bit.

There are plenty of cities the size of St. Joseph that don't have buildings this nice nor do they support performance art the way that the residents of St. Joseph apparently do. This theatre really is something to be proud about. Plus, the theatre has lots of free parking nearby as well as is walking distance to a number of restaurants! My only complaint is that Saturday's show was shown to have no center orchestra tickets available, however the entire second row was empty. I have no idea what that was about.

Our family attended a concert here a couple weeks ago!…read more With a location in downtown Topeka, right off the highway, it's not too difficult to find! On the flip side of that, the location DID make parking a little tricky - there are numerous garages and street parking options around, but if you read carefully, many are highly restricted, and/or close to the public early in the evening, and/or have other restrictions. We parked in one garage, only to read on the door on the way out that it was set to close and lock down 20 mins later. So, back to the car, and I had to drive a couple blocks over to (luckily!) find what was probably the very last street parking space within a 10 block area. Inside the venue, I feel this place has aged particularly well. I remember when it was newly renovated, and despite that being decades ago, it still seemed in good repair and was a nice place to see a medium-sized event. Lighting and sound were both excellent, and the acoustics from our angle on the floor, near the back, was also very good. The view was perfect - no obstruction in front, due to ample rise in the auditorium as you go back. Navigating the building was also simple, well organized, and well attended by staff to help. Maybe the only thing that could really use some help is the restroom facilities, at least the one on the main floor. It's very tight, and falling into a bit of a state of needing some update and repair. Security did a nice job on our visit, and moved through our line pretty quickly! I'll probably have a better plan for parking next time; other than that, this was a good experience!

I saw Anastasia last night and the cast, staging, costuming and music were all excellent…read more The service, however, was extremely poor. We ordered popcorn for intermission over an hour prior to the start of the show, knowing that it isn't delivered until intermission. They waited until the second act was beginning to tell us they "didn't make enough" and we wouldn't be getting any. They gave us nachos and promised to comp one of the 3 orders, then charged me for it anyway. The nachos were cold and soggy when they arrived about 3 minutes left in intermission. I gave my credit card in good faith when the check was dropped early in the intermission, then had the wrong amount charged to my credit card (over double my actual total) and someone else's credit card presented to me not once but twice. It took 10-15 minutes for the mess to be sorted between the manager and server and the server spent most of that chatting and laughing with what appeared other table involved. The manager also blew off my concerns about their disorganized service and lack of communication regarding availability of the menu. My party and I were not high maintenance, or demanding. There was no obvious reason for the chaos, besides a clear lack of organization and no managerial care for customer experience.

At both productions the acoustics and the sound system were so poor that we could only understand one word out of every five. I was familiar with both shows, which made the situation doubly frustrating. During Spamalot we talked to an usher during intermission. We were seated toward the front, and she said maybe the problem was that we were too close. It was a shame, because it looked like a great show, and I'm familiar with the songs, but if you can't hear the words - it definitely loses something. But during Little Shop of Horrors we sat in the middle section, and the sound was not one bit better! I talked to the House Manager, who didn't have anything helpful to offer at all. Now this theater is offering Young Frankenstein, a musical I really love. But I hate to shell out another $30 per ticket for a show I can't hear. I'm astonished at the 5-Star reviews here. What's the secret, guys? Is there some secret place in the theater where you can actually hear the shows?

I was excited to go with my wife and parents to see The Truetones as my mom is a huge Beatles fan. I underestimated how much it would fill up so we stood up near the stage. Though we would not have expected this, Aztec's staff was very kind to offer us any available seats. I do wish there was more standing room available and I wish there was a larger variety of music that played here. However, the classic rock cover bands I've seen here put on a GREAT show. I'm glad to have this place in my local community.

KCMPT is an African American theatre company and puts on thought provoking pieces. JOB also has many other local groups that stage productions there ( music, dance, spoken word... ). The theater is open seating, but it's "in the round." The seating is on risers around the stage, so there isn't a bad view in the house! The theater is in Penn Valley park, just north of Indigo Wild. There is a parking lot on the south side of the building.

It's one of my favorite plays. With a cast of two, it's a big load for the actors. They were wonderful!! Both of them were lovely and did this fine work great justice. Wednesday and Thursday are "Community Pricing" nights so the tickets are $10 cheaper. That's great on the wallet. The theater is very nice and professional. The set was fantastic! Wardrobe and makeup were spot on. I am very impressed and grateful I made it to see this show before the end of the run.

High prices for drinks and snacks. Terrible cell coverage (likely not enough bandwidth to handle all attendees). Overall, if you like the band(s) playing, the experience will be worth going. Sandstone, as anyone from KC knows it by, is historic for outdoor concerts. I saw my first concert here in 1984. I've been here to see just about every type of music and a few festivals. The name changes are kinda superfluous (everyone still calls it Sandstone), and the overall experience has not changed much. The only real complaint I have is that my 5' nothing daughter cannot see, unless we get seats close to the stage or in the front rows of a section. I wish it was a little steeper, but that would be impossible. Just be aware that, if you are short, you need to sit someplace in front of the other tall people. Over the years, they have managed to keep their vendor prices consistently high. :-) No matter. It is what it is. Ha! The only bad experience I have ever had was 1998 Ozzfest, when a whole mob of bad actors scooped up dirt and grass and pelted the people in front. The management did nothing, and likely couldn't do anything. All in all, a good place to see your favorite bands ;-)

How could you not?…read more We were here for the sold out Snoop Dogg show, with lawn seats, and we had plenty of room for a picnic blanket for 2. Long lines for the swag and band merch. And the crowds never stopped refilling their bellies with dranks. Gravel parking lot isn't ideal but it wasn't super difficult to get parked and to leave in an orderly fashion. Another cool spot to catch a show in KC!
