Last May, I welcomed my first child. Since it was my first time being a father, I didn't really know the proper way to hold a baby, and over time I ended up straining my left wrist. For a while, it was quite painful. It wasn't a sharp or severe pain, but more of a constant dull ache. My wrist would also make clicking or popping sounds whenever I rotated it.
I asked several friends who have children, and they all told me that it was probably caused by the way I was holding my baby. They also told me that this type of injury could be difficult to reverse and that I might eventually need a steroid injection. Since I heard pretty much the same thing from several different people, I started to believe that I would just have to live with it.
I was even more skeptical because I already had a similar problem with my right wrist. I injured it years ago while playing basketball, and even today, I still occasionally experience a dull ache. I've seen many doctors about it over the years, and I was always told that there wasn't really a way to completely fix it.
Because of that experience, I had basically accepted that I would probably need to wear a wrist brace and simply try to prevent my left wrist from getting worse.
One day, I mentioned the problem to my wife. She suggested that I try shockwave therapy and EMTT, and she made an appointment for me with Daphne.
I went into the treatment somewhat skeptical. After all, I had been dealing with my right wrist problem for years, so I wasn't expecting too much.
Daphne turned out to be a wonderful therapist. Before starting, she took the time to explain how the treatment worked and the principles behind it. I won't go into all the technical details here, but after her explanation, I decided to give it a try.
The treatment lasted about a month.
To be honest, immediately after that month of treatment, I didn't notice a dramatic difference. There was some improvement, but it definitely didn't feel like the problem had been completely resolved. At the time, I was a little disappointed, and I brought up my concerns with Daphne.
She was very patient and explained that the results wouldn't necessarily be immediate. She told me that it could take around six weeks after completing the treatment before I would really start noticing a significant change.
And she was right.
Over the following month and a half, the pain in my wrist gradually disappeared.
Today, I still carry my son every single day. He now weighs about 26 pounds, and after adjusting the way I hold him, my wrist no longer hurts. The pain has not returned either.
I've been pretty busy lately, so I'm planning to wait until things settle down a little before going back to have my right wrist treated as well.
Thank you, Daphne, for your patience, professionalism, and help. I was skeptical when I started, but I'm genuinely grateful that I gave the treatment a chance.
