The prices are affordable, class sizes are small, and the value is unbeatable. Our charter school covers the gymnastics class, and unlike other studios, Selah Groove doesn't charge hundreds for performances. My daughter has performed at the Del Mar Fair and a local festival, with only a small costume rental fee. We're excited for her next show at Knott's Berry Farm! BUT, we decided to leave the studio and went back to our old dance studio because of the following 2 reasons: 1. My daughter came out of many classes looking bummed out, which is rare; she's usually upbeat w shiny eyes after her rec classes. When I asked why she was upset, she said "I can't understand them half the time". She said they speak Spanish more than half the time, and the majority of the students are Spanish-speaking and they mostly speak Spanish to each other also. Believe me, one of my best friends is Mexican and I have no problem with this heritage. We love diversity!! But, my daughter is English-speaking only so she felt left out and was unable to make new friends well because of this. When I brought this up to the owner, she seemed to make excuses and did not say that possibly this is something they should work on. I was disappointed because on their website, during the tour and in class descriptions, I heard nothing of their classes being taught in 2 languages. That's a big thing to know before committing! 2. There is 1 verrry small waiting area. There is no area for families to observe their kiddos through windows. Instead, there are two highly-placed monitors where the kids are able to be viewed live. HOWEVER, they don't want families waiting in that room while your child is in class; they ask that we allow ONLY the students to take a break and eat there. So where does that leave the families? You're stuck waiting in the car, unable to watch your kid or running errands during your kids' class time. Hope this helps anyone that is curious about this studio!

Once I made contact with Serena, she made me feel so welcome along with making me feel comfortable about renting her studio for my son's graduation party. She was very helpful in providing me with vendors to help me with my event and was sweet enough to check in on me to ensure I had everything I needed to make this party a success. As a dance newbie, going into a dance class can be awfully intimidating. I attended a free open house and expected not to like it (for previously mentioned reasons). However, I was surprised at how comfortable and welcome I felt. The instructors were straight forward, yet friendly and approachable. They were thorough in their explanation and demonstration of the basics, and were very willing to answer questions. If you are expecting the instructor to break down every single move repeatedly just for one person and watch and correct your every step, join a private lesson. Keep in mind, you are not the only student, and while repetition is key, you cannot expect to do enough repetition in one hour of instruction. Anyhow, although the first class was definitely a struggle, for the first time ever, I felt that perhaps I could actually learn and become more comfortable on the dance floor. Overall, my experience has been great. As a matter of fact, only 6 weeks in and with no prior dance experience, I decided to join a performance team, and have felt more confidence and seen more improvement then I ever have. I went from taking just bachata, to now trying salsa, burlesque, and hip hop. I recommend and invite everyone to try it for yourself!
