I danced here for about 6 months and decided to leave. I really wish i didnt have to give this a one, but im just being honest. i decided to take beginning ballet with no experience and because i was older than everyone else, i was transferred to ballet 2. knowing nothing about ballet, i failed so much, that they decided to move me back to ballet 1. That was the first mistake. second, the studio is in little storage houses, with no air conditioning. for the first few months, it was dangerously hot in the building. third, my particular teacher WAS NOT a ballet teacher, she had little experience, wore sneakers to teach BALLET, and didn't even teach the basic things such as how to hold your fingers. I was barley learning anything. MY teacher seemed to have no enthusiasm for teaching and it was like it was a chore for her. Whenever i asked a question, she would just basically ignore me, or respond by saying "hmm." it was so frustrating paying $49 a month for this crappy, class in which i learned nothing. after two months of doing the same thing over and over again in class and not learning anything, we got the papers for the dance recital. thinking that it would be a fun experience, i agreed and we paid over $100. All wasted. for the next four months, we didn't do any ballet, all we did was practice for the dance recital, in which we were playing as jack in the boxes, and our dance wasn't very good either. we would walk into the class, practice for the recital, "show dances" to the class next door. (where we would present our dance to ballet 3 and they would present theirs to us) And the other thing is that our dance wasn't difficult at all, it was a warm up basically, but due to the lack of teaching, we had to work on it forever. That was the main thing that bothered me about this school. i don't know about the other forms of dance such as hip hop or jazz. but definitely don't take ballet 1 with Ms.Sofia, you don't learn anything. I saw a flyer at my school for a newly opening Inspire school of classical ballet in chula vista, and decided to check it out. There they had a teen beginner ballet class, and their school was actual building instead of a garage. When i first went on their website i was surprised by how many classes and divisions they had, and how neat and organized the website was compared to dance society's website. At the trial class, I learned more than i had the whole six months at Dance Society! the teachers were real, experienced, performers, that weren't teaching just for the money, but to actually share the gift of dance with others. every question i asked, she answered and she showed me what mistakes i was doing by fixing it with her hands. It was everything you'd expect a ballet class to be like, and more! I started taking their class and moved out of Dance society and now i actually look forward to my classes! And although it sounds weird, its nice to be corrected by having the teacher move your feet, and give you homework to work on because they didn't do any of that stuff at dance society, and that's why i dint learn! at dance society, i looked forward to having a sub because i knew that they would be better than our teacher. If you want an noneducational, old, ugly, small, studio with damaged wood floors and terrible and unresponsive teachers, where you don't learn anything but the dance for the recital that is coming up in 6 months, then go to Dance society. SO if you are interested in a dance school that teaches you the technique and art of dance with experienced teachers and nice studios, then go to Inspire School of Ballet! And Inspire school of ballet has you audition for a role in the dance production, in which they actually do ballet, and then, you have a SEPARATE day of the week to work on your dance so you can still be learning! and their prices are about the same as Dance society, but you pay all upfront instead of monthly, which is better to me because you don't have to worry about the bill and stupid Dance society $10 late fee! read more
