I've driven past Dalston everyday for almost two years and have always thought the clothes looked lovely. Great patterned fabrics, falttering styles, and inviting store set up - yet until yesterday I'd never actually been inside.
What finally made me stop and go in was this beautiful teal 1950s style dress with wee parrots on it. It is stunning to say the least, and when I entered the store and found the garment I couldn't help but laugh. The dress is a 'Megan' dress, which is my name. If that isn't the world giving me a sign, then I don't know what is!
The shop assistant and I joked over this conincidence and then continued chatting the whole time I explored the store. The assistant was absolutely lovely and happily told me all about the brand and the clothing the store stocks. Most of the items are designed and made in NZ and the quality of the stock is undeniable.
Unlike many NZ created garments, Dalston's stock is actually pretty reasonably priced, and they have great sales too. The beautiful 'Megan' dress was down to $80 - a definite bargain!
Make sure you stop and have a look around the store next time you're in Grey Lynn, and if you purchase anything it's always good to know you're supporting local NZ designers!
Tip: Dalston also stocks fantastically beautiful jewellery at a good price as well as shoes, belts, baby clothing and muslin wraps. read more
