I recommend this location to get your passport! I had called this office around 2pm to avoid large wait time. There was no wait so I walked over. When I first arrived, there was a security checkpoint. It was not clear where the office was so I asked and was directed to a small room/door down the hall (door was to the right when passing the security checkpoint). Once I got into the passport center, my process went smoothly. What I brought: Costco passport picture old childhood passport (sent as my Proof of Identity) Birth certificate (copy sent as my Proof of Identity) Drivers License Check - passport cost Card/cash - passport fee (card has $3.50 Fee!) Tip: 1. Fill out the form with black ink. 2. Know you parents birth place and birthdates 3. Bring your social security card if your drivers license was issued less than 6 month from the day of your visit (my drivers license was 8 mo old). I called to confirm. 4. Your Proof of Identity will be mailed with your application. Bring something you are okay with mailing and not having temporarily. read more

And management is a joke. used to work here I was there 4 months and ended up having a heart attack and getting skin cancer went to doctors appointments and I had doctors notes and they let me go from my job and stated I missed too much time what a joke. If I could give 0 stars, I would! This is the worst place to get anything done. Literally got put on hold for 20 minutes, then I hung up and called back just to find out they went to lunch. Like seriously? Who does that? Can't wait to be done with my case because I don't ever want to deal with them again. Also, I ALWAYS get the run around, being sent pretty much to different departments because they don't have a clue on what I'm talking about. Lastly, they want to tell me when I go up there to tell me that I basically wasted money because they denied my transfer for doing it wrong. Recently, they changed court coordinators without informing me, after emailing the same one I've been emailing for 4 months now. I guess shame on me for not calling to find these things out myself. I can't afford a lawyer, but with Dallas County you need one if you want to get things done. This has been going on for an extended time of about 3 years. read more

it took only 5 days to get my passport done. step 1- call the number to make an appointment. step 2- write down your confirmation number, and the date/time of your appointment. step 3- bring- -old passport (if you have one) -check,money order,credit card. -your proof of flight. -your id, -and a passport picture. step4- arrive to the tan building, it will have the star parking. and next to it is a non gated parking (i don't recommend that.) the address is incorrect when you ask for directions on gps. it'll take you to the silver building. you need to go a little more straight and you'll see a tan building (less fancy) step 5- go to the 11 floor step6 - talk to security and get in line. If you have everything, and your set with your paper you should be okay. step 7 - I had the money order of $195 dollars since my plan was to go to south korea on the june18th. step8- get your confirmation on your passport, and it should be 4-5 days to pick it back up again. This is the place to get a emergency passport. They're all nice, and its no hassle at all. PARKING. Okay,so I went cheap and went to the non-gated. There will be homeless people all around. I have nothing against homeless people, I'm always giving them a few dollars. For some odd reason they hang around the parking, asking if you want to save a few bucks and give THEM the cash. (Skechhhh) I was going to pay in cash, but instead i paid in credit. The parking pay is cheap , but its a bit sketchy. So the star parking in FRONT ON THE TAN BUILDING (not the shiny silver building) IS a better choice. But if you're going to pick up your passport, you should go with the cheap non gated pay for less than 30 mins. BECAUSSEEEE it will only take you 10 min, in and out. Unless something is wrong. I paid for 1 hours+ because I thought there was a line, turns out its a simple walk through, get your passport, check if the information is correct, and leave. When you're going to apply and give you're information you should pay for the 1+ hour parking JUST IN CASE. read more

This was by far the easiest process to get a new passport! If you have your forms filled out and the appropriate materials (birth certificate, SS card, expired passport, etc) it takes no time at all. They opened their doors promptly at 8:30 (go early if you can!!!!!) and I was out of there, with having a picture taken, by 8:45. Make sure you have a check for $110 and then cash or card for the $25 processing fee and $12 photo fee (if you need it). I parked in the Star Parking right across the street and only paid $5 when I left. Overall, this was the best experience I've had in a government building when trying to get a passport, driver's license, etc. read more

Best and easiest experience ever! Literally walked in at 8:30 AM on a Wednesday and left at 8:50 AM with a new passport application filed. 20 total minutes AND I brought in the wrong application, which required me taking 10 minutes to complete the correct one. I can't say enough about the overall "feel" of the office: Not at all what I expected from a government branch. Everyone was warm, welcoming, and the clerk who assisted me was one of the sweetest, most helpful people I've met in public service. She could be the face of any executive office in Dallas. The manager was also visible and was exceptionally professional and kind. I parked at the Star parking lot adjacent to the building, which costs me $5. Not bad at all. All that said, I tried to be prepared. My check was made out for $110. I had a credit card and $25 cash as a back-up. I had my SSN card, birth certificate and Drivers License. And, arriving early probably made a big difference in how quickly the process went. I have dreaded this experience for weeks due to reviews I've read on other passport offices (mostly the USPS). But, I could not have been more wonderfully surprised. 5+ star! read more

A young Hispanic man who worked (on that day at least) at the window on the furthest left treated us professionally, was knowledgeable and super helpful. I would have given five stars, but a much older, shorter woman with dark hair was deplorably rude and hostile, an entitled employee that ruins reputations for governmental workers. After waiting in line for a passport, with all the paperwork filled out, everything DONE, they let my son walk away without signing the paperwork and called FIVE hours later, after they were closed, going into a holiday weekend, to say "oops". My son was in town from college for a very short time and we had a small window to get this done. ALL they have to do is ensure your paperwork is filled out, swear you in and ask you to sign in front of them. They could not manage to do this. Then they said they would follow up and send a letter to him the next week. Three weeks later we are still waiting. These people would never survive in the private sector. read more

I went in to update my name on my passport because they don't allow that type of renewal online. It's Friday, so the whole process took 2.5 hours because the line was so long. I didn't have an appointment. I'd recommend arriving early and expecting to be there for 3 hours. Bring water & snacks! And maybe a book to read :) They close at 4pm. For a name update on the passport renewal they require: Money order for $110 (or personal check) New photo (taken there) $5 cash or credit Processing fee $20 cash or credit Your current U.S. passport Original marriage certificate Driver's license showing name change Passport Renewal Application (get it there) Know your parents' full names, birth dates, & places of birth for the app. My parking space cost $15 cash because I was there for over an hour and I wanted convenience. It doesn't go up past $15. Overall it was an efficient experience. Just lots of waiting for large families with children. Restroom is located just to the left of the office, past the elevators near the security check point. read more

Michael Vilanre (sp??) was EXCELLENT! He had a long line waiting and he kept talking to us while we waited and had an incredible attitude toward everyone. It almost seems like the people in line had better attitudes about waiting because he was so polite and friendly. He was well-informed and was very helpful. I am always a little worried about government processes because they can be so complicated and unnecessarily difficult. Michael helped me get everything in order and I was done within three minutes. What a relief! There were only two people working the counter and probably 15 people in line, so I'm quite sure the other patrons were happy about that, too. read more

If you were too lazy to get your passport pic in advance...you may be frustrated with the $20 and "I'll get to you later" attitude in the 1st floor snack shop...that was the longest part and you should plan that ahead. Now...to the actual passport process. 1. Park on the southside of the bldg (not Commerce St) 2. Security checkin required at the door 3. Photo (if you dont have) done first in 1st floor snack shop 4. 11th floor to wait in line with the 20 other people with appointments 5. While in line they verify all your pre-requisites (Birth Certificate, ID etc) 6. Once you are in...takes less than 15 from window 1 to reverify / make copies of the prerequisites and then window 2 to pay. Very helpful and relatively painless read more

By far the easiest and quickest experience I've ever experienced in a Government facility. I arrived early, had all my needed documentation in hand, and was in and out in under 10 minutes. It took longer finding a parking spot than it did to breeze through the entire application submission process. The staff there were friendly, full of smiles, and took a great passport photo. Superior service. I arrived 15 minute before they closed. I was going to pick up an application and return the following morning with completed form. They employees were extrememly friendly and encouraged me to go ahead and fill it out today and complete the process. I was shocked at their willingness to go above and beyond. WOW! Who would have ever though I would have been so impressed by a passport office!? I've heard horror stories about getting passports processed at the post office and already feared the worst. I actually called multiple post offices several times to make an appointment yet nobody ever answered the phone. I called the Dallas County Clerk passport office and they answered immediately. They don't take appointments so the service is first come, first served. I stopped by the day before at lunch time to peek in at the crowds and there were only a couple people in line. I decided to come in the next morning right at opening. We got there early, before they opened, expecting a line to start forming. There ended up being only one other person there who arrived shortly after us. They opened the doors promptly at 8:30 am and were very courteous. I've read in the Observer that they only employ senior employees at this office so they know their stuff well. They explained all the regulations clearly and processed my application promptly. Everything went as smoothly as possible! Just a few pointers before you go: -The passport office is located inside the Earl Cabell Federal Building on the first floor. Parking is very expensive in the garage so try to park at a meter on the street. -They only accept CASH for the $25.00 execution fee and only accept CHECKS for the passport fees that are paid to the U.S. Dept of State. Bring both to be sure. -Arrive early to avoid the crowds. Crowds build up as the day progresses. They do not make appointments at this location. -This is NOT the U.S. Passport Agency, they are located down the street at 1100 Commerce St. read more

Thank you for the staff at this office in 600 commerce!! Experience is relative, this place compare to the one on 1100 commerce is so much better. They have the quality of an excellent customer service; they're courteous, fast, and all-around very pleasant people to come face-to-face. No one enjoys going to a government office or expect to get good customer service, I wonder if this is one reason people ignore expiration dates and renewals of important document such as passports and IDs. One has to wonder about the difference in the management system between the two buildings and the type of coaching their supervisors and managers are providing them. This should be no different than going to a bank. read more

Needed a passport for my baby and called multiple post offices and they were booked with appointments til July. I was so glad to have seen other yelp reviews about this office. This office if first come first serve and no appointments taken. Went in at 8:45 am and left within 30 minutes! Everyone was helpful and nice. There were only 1 person ahead of us despite the summer months being a time when most people try to get their Passports. MAKE SURE TO BRING 25 dollar cash and a check book for the fees. It also helps speed things up if you already bring in a passport photo already taken. They charge 10 dollars to take photos at this place but we had gotten ours at SAM club for 5 dollars and brought it read more

This place is ridiculous. I have had to come 4 times and still haven't been able to submit my information. First they will not take a debit card to pay for the passport. They will for everything else. So I had to get a damn money order and pay a fee. Then today I go again and they decide to close 30 minutes early. UPDATE: It took me one week to receive my passport in the mail!!! ___________________ I've been dreading getting my passport, and I did not want to take a pic myself and send it in the mail just in case I did something wrong. Luckily I found this place through Yelp! I went this afternoon during a snow day, so maybe this is why it was so quick. I parked in the lot next to the building which was $5 for 0-30 min, $10 for 31-60 min, $15 for 61-90 min, and $20 for anything more (I'm pretty sure those were the prices). Thinking I would be in there for at least an hour, I was annoyed, but I also did not want to search for metered parking. Well, I got in, filled out the app, took my pic, and I was done. I got to my car and it was literally 28 minutes total!! They said it'll be mailed in 4-6 weeks. Like other reviews said, have a check or money order for the $170 fee. Forget the Post Office. Paying $5 for parking five minutes from the building still makes it worth it. Make sure you bring cash, your check book, and a passport picture. Also, carefully check they are writing all your information correctly. You don't want them to get all creative with your name. Overall a good experience. read more
