For kids, wandering around Wilcon while parents shop for bathroom fixtures and other household…read moreneeds is super fun! Haha. It's a huge store, so there's all sorts of stuff to look at and keep boredom at bay, like giant shiny jacuzzis and model kitchen units. Now that I'm older, recently my dad asked me to come with him to help shop for pipes and stuff for the extension we're building for our house. He's getting older too, and needs an assistant. So on my last visit, I was able to appreciate how completely stocked Wilcon is. Tiles, bathroom stuff, kitchen stuff, garden tools, locks, even pet supplies, it's all under one roof. It's the ultimate in convenience among hardware stores.

The thing about building a house is that saving time is as important as buying the right materials,…read morechoosing the right contractor and having the right design. The more time you lose, the more money you spend. This is why it's important that you choose a hardware store that has everything in it. You don't want to run around and drive to so many places just because one doesn't have a specific pipe and vice versa. You're better off at settling in 1 store where you can keep your sanity intact and your gas tank right above low. So where is this hardware that promises to give these things? It's the Wilcon Depot at Filinvest City in Alabang. My brother-in-law swears by it, and believe me he is the most anal person when it comes to these things. I came here yesterday to help him buy locks and other things for his almost finished house and it took us a few minutes to find everything we need. I would have loved to walk around more because of the nice tile selection inside but we didn't have a lot of time. So, if you're building a home or perpetually fixing an old house (like me) AND you live in the South, come to this branch and make it your home base.

Most of the reviews here are on the pet center or the other divisions of the market, i.e. the one…read morewith shoes, the one with clothing overruns, the one with secondhand appliances, the one with bicycles, the one with gardening stuff, etc. Those are all well and good, but what I love about the Cartimar Market is their food. Seriously, where else can you get authentic Thai food for less than a hundred pesos? Sen Lek Thai in the foodcourt is one of the best Thai places I've tried. If you're more into Korean food, Arisoo is a restaurant towards the back that I was also able. My favorite though is the cold taho at one of the Japanese groceries here, I forget the name. It's basically cold taho with toppings of your choice, for around fifty pesos for a big bowl. It's my secret pick me up. Don't tell anyone, okay?

I consider Cartimar Market to be one of the more underrated places in the metro. A lot of people…read moreknow about the pet center here, which is also what drew me to the place in the first place, but once you go past that, you'll see that it has a whole lot more to offer. It's not a market in the usual sense. I haven't seen any wet produce like meat or fish, though I'm sure there's an area in there somewhere. What I have seen are stores selling clothing - mostly overruns or surpluses of major brands, stores selling shoes, stores selling appliances, and stores selling miscellaneous items like mason jars and the like. You also have, of course, the pet center, and the SM supermarket. The best part, I think, are the foreign groceries where you can get Japanese or Korean ingredients dirt-cheap.

Can i grow organic herbs and vegetables for my every day cooking in my living room, without soil…read moreand not worry about watering them? Yes, i can!! I am not dreaming, nor kidding. The store Grass roots is offering a product called "Urban Farm" which can do everything that i mentioned above. Urban Farmer is a hydroponic system that is built inside a cabinet which you can place anywhere in your house. Hydroponics is a system of growing plants without having to use soil. The conditions in a hydroponics system are same throughout the year allowing year round growth of plants. The system also uses only 10% of water as against the traditional methods. I was informed that using this system you can produce 4 times more and the plants grow at a much faster pace. However it all comes with a price. The big cabinet costs 90,000 peso and a smaller one with two trays comes for 30,000 peso. This is something i would really want to buy once i save up enough money.

I'm a big fan of stores that are nationalistic, quality-oriented and eco-friendly. Grassroots is…read morejust that. Their products - (furniture and home accessories) are all made out of indigenous materials and have high standard craftsmanship made by skilled weavers from provinces. Another thing I love about the store is the distinct and modern Filipino-island themed motif they have for all of their products. They even have collections to choose from so if you want to pair certain items with the same materials or color scheme or mix and match, you can definitely do so. What's more is that they also do custom work so if you want something specially made, go for it! I haven't bought any furniture from them since I don't have a place of my own yet but I do love their picture frames and storage boxes. I love jewelry so I have gotten some jewelry boxes for myself and my mum (she has a jewelry collection that can match Rachel Zoe's!) and I also gave her some watch boxes which she adored.
