I have passed The Tasting Room of Louisiana so many times on my way to the Mirror Room and, for…read morewhatever reason, I always assumed it was some sort of wine bar. I was wrong. Little did I know this hidden gem is one of the best bars I have been to in a really long time. This place feels OLD. Like maybe the first bar ever in Alexandria old. I get the vibe it has been a bar as long as the Hotel Bentley across the street has been a hotel. Is that historically accurate? Negative. I'm not a historian. It just feels that way. The place is dark, classic, comfortable, and has cool ass bartenders. Shoutout to the bartender who is moving to NOLA soon. Go see her before she leaves. And the drinks? Heck yeah. If you like fancy cocktails, whether they are old school classics, something newer, or something involving champagne, you are covered. Want bourbon? Their selection is more extensive than most places I have been in Louisiana. Irish whiskey? They have Writer's Tears. Since I fancy myself a writer, and Yelp reviews count as writing, right?, I obviously love that whiskey. I didn't actually cry, but this bar was awesome enough that maybe I should have. I seriously cannot believe how many times I walked right past this place without going inside. That was a mistake. This is now one of those places I'll make a point to stop at whenever I'm in Alexandria. Great drinks, great atmosphere, and the kind of bar that just feels right the second you walk in. Oh, and don't piss off the Melissa. You'll get it when you go. And you should definitely go.

Stopped in because it was walking distance from the hotel I was staying at, and so glad I did! The…read morecocktail list is endless, really well priced and if you like whiskey, rye drinks or bourbon this place is a must. The bartender had extensive knowledge of all brown liquor and made suggestions based on what I liked. I also had the bacon wrapped shrimp which were tasty. Will stop in again and try more of their food menu! Ps really great music if you like alternative rock from the 90s as well!

It was my colleague's turn to choose the dinner location and he decided on Mexican food. Now, I am…read morefrom Arizona, which has the best Mexican food, so I wasn't exactly excited about eating this genre in Alexandria, Louisiana. Here goes... I wanted to play it safe so I ordered the carne asada. To my surprise, it wasn't horrible. Had good flavor and was cooked perfectly. It's served on a bed of grilled onions, which was weird but whatever. This dish also came with my choice of corn or flour tortillas. The rice and beans on the side tasted like they came strait from a can though, but who's there for the rice and beans anyway? Pro tip: save yourself a few bucks and just order the steak fajitas in lieu of the carne asada. The fajitas are served almost identically to the carne asada, except your meat is cut for you already. Both plates come served over grilled onions, both come with tortillas and also with rice/beans and toppings. EXACTLY THE SAME! Weird thing is, the carne asada is $2 more? Give Pedro's a shot, it won't be the best Mexican food you've ever had, but it won't be the worst either. One thumb and a high-five for Pedro's. Happy eating, my foodies!

I made…read morethe drive from my hotel room to Pedro's which was somewhat of an adventure because the GPS kept sending me to the wrong place. I ended up getting my fried ice cream to go $6.99. I commend the staff for being really nice and helpful. Everything was still intact and hadn't melted by the time I got back to my hotel room. The ice cream was still firm and the shell was still crispy. Before digging in I had to take some of the whipped cream off of it. A little bit too much sugar was sprinkled on the outside but overall this was really good. I may come back and visit this place again before I leave. I just know to ask them not to put any whipped cream and not as much sugar. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

I traveled home for the weekend and decided to check out a local establishment that was rumored to…read morehave great crawfish. Unfortunately, it was a hot mess. We couldn't order crawfish inside due to a staffing shortage and were advised to use the drive-through, which took about 23 to 30 minutes. After placing our order, we returned inside to eat, only to be told there was a $5 entry fee. When I spoke with a young lady and explained that we had just left to order crawfish because we couldn't do it inside, she stated that it was now a door charge. As we waited for the manager, the entry fee increased to $10. The owner eventually came over and confirmed the $10 cover charge, saying that the place was expected to be packed to capacity. This was very unprofessional, and the setup was poorly executed. To make matters worse, I later heard that entry was supposed to be free from 4 to 9 PM. Not only was he unprofessional, but there was also false advertising involved. I will add the crawfish were good
