Today we headed over to the small town of Grayson to check out the Grayson Day Festival. This is an annual festival that occurs on the last Saturday in April. It is a great time for the community and visitors to come out and provide support to local businesses and for local businesses to educate the community regarding their services. We arrived very early this morning just before 9am and had time to make the rounds and check out the vendors prior to the start of the parade at 10am. Vendors included food, crafts, businesses, and churches. Although the music was pumping early when we arrived, I was disappointed to know that the performances would not start until 11:30. We were actually done an hour before this time and would have had to stand around for an hour and that just was not practical. I really love it when the entertainment begins earlier in the morning. By the time the parade ended at 10, we were ready to go as we had seen it all and it suddenly started to get warm. Attending festivals is the ultimate way to support small businesses. Listen up Yelpers! When you find a good festival vendor or happen to eat a good meal, shout it out! Get a name, take some photos and create a Yelp page to show support. It is a great way to help a small business get recognized and it is effortless. I actually met a vendor, (from Marietta), who made her own delicious English toffee. It was so good that I had to create a Yelp page and write a review. Well, her friend saw the review and told her about it so when I happened to just be strolling through an art show in Decatur, she recognized me and gave me a big hug. She was so appreciative and this was such a "feel good" moment that she made MY day. I later learned that she only does indoor shows and festivals. This is the only way for her to offer her chocolate because chocolate and heat spell disaster. Think about it and think about writing a review the next time you find a worthy vendor. *** Grayson won a live work play city award in 2017. This means that the city embodies well-rounded communities that benefit residents and businesses alike and that officials in these cities have demonstrated advanced problem-solving, exceptional management and teamwork to increase the overall quality of life for all residents. If there's one food event you must not miss then this one is it. Every year since 1998, the makers…read moreof the Big Green Egg puts out a huge meat fest called Eggtoberfest. It is held on the 3rd weekend of October. My parents have been making us go for close to a decade now. The festival kicks-off on a Friday with a catered dinner (from Bold American this year, Ritz Carlton the previous years) and an open bar (sodas, wine, beer, bottled water) followed by an all day meat fest the day after. There are 350 BGEs that are fired during the event where participants outdo each other by cooking the best barbecue, pizza, breakfast fare, chili, and whatever else they can cook in a BGE (which is just about everything). You are free to take all the samples you can eat. Mind you, these samples aren't the itty-bitty ones you usually see in festivals. These are almost full size servings and most are! There was so much steak, lamb, pork, chicken, and fish that you are literally full after just an hour. Sodas, water, and beer are included in the ticket price as well as a gift bag filled with goodies and a t-shirt. Don't miss it next year. Tickets go on sale sometime in August and sell out within the hour. There were over 1000 people on waitlist last year and no one ever clears. No one cleared this year either. One last thing-- this isn't your regular food festival where you have to buy food, food tickets or taste coupons. Your ticket price includes everything: food samples, bottled soda or water, and beer. Oh, and there are no vendors in the premises so don't even bother bringing any money -- unless, of course, you want to take home a gleaming BGE or stock up on supplies. BGEs are discounted during the festival only.

Yes the have a back door, but who wants to go into a back door to eat. Secondly, the food was above average, but there were issues. Like the salad had no dressing on it and the Brussel sprouts were way overly salted. (I love Brussel sprouts and these were average at best. The rest of the food was amazing. A well maintained course, albeit a boring track…read more This is my second time at Summit Chase. I barely remember the first time and it probably because its not very interesting. The entire process from check in to getting to the first tee is great. It was cordial , speedy and well organized. I was in my cart and talking to the starter, under 5 minutes. No issues with tee time, cart or anything. They definitely have things well organized. The course is well maintained. Some of the best greens around. Fairways are nice, well drained and if you drive one to the middle, you will find the ball sitting nicely. The second cut tho is not so short. Which is OK, as long as you keep it in the fairway. The greens are sweet. Very receptive, and rolls beautifully. Mind you, they are very tricky. I cannot believe how many times, the ball makes an abrupt left or right near the cup. Not their fault, just my laziness to read the green from both ends of the line. Once you read the line properly, its more than fair. Lesson... read the darn line and stop your 3 putts. The track is about 17 holes of back and forth. I cannot remember a dog leg except for one and its a fake one too. Meaning, I could have driven it straight thru and the flag would have been visible. Not much elevation changes, no scary water to cross, .. makes for a very pleasant golf outing, but no risk and reward contemplation in the whole round. I do appreciate the par 5's that land in an area that is flat, then slopes down to the hole. Time to hit the 3 wood off the deck and let it go on and on and on... btw, which I hit twice and so sweet. I would play again just because the green is so darn nice.

A few months later we found out that she as well as two other members of management (aside from the owner) had were let go (in June). We tried numerous times to reach out via phone and email. Nobody answered or returned calls or emails) This is what I guess could be considered the transition time until they hired the new event coordinator, Lindsay. We met her in late July. Lindsay has terrible professional communication! There were a number of times where she didn't even address me directly when getting matters addressed about my daughter's wedding. There were a few opportunities where she had the chance to redeem herself but the unprofessionalism continued. One time when we met her, she was in a short, fake brown leather miniskirt! Another time she was dressed in extremely short shorts. Oh, I can't forget to mention how our contract miraculously disappeared during the transition. Lindsey actually told us that everything was thrown out whenever she took over. She drew up another contract that was much more heftier in price by several thousand dollars. But we were prepared and had the revised latest contract from Ariel in an email. Lindsey tried to say that it was invalid and it could not be honored. Luckily Craig, the new general manager listened to reason and we got it sorted out. Craig was probably the good part about dealing with the Country club. When we had initially booked, we were told that we were allowed to book outside catering as there was extremely expensive. Of course we had already made a deposit by the time we had finally got in touch with the new staff. They made such a big deal. So instead we had to estimate the amount of guests and pay a per person catering fee. That was a waste of money! The staff was less than helpful. It felt like we were getting punished for not using their catering services. The stupid catering fee did not provide us glasses, silverware,- plates or anything! The only thing that they were nice enough to give us was ice. They would not let us store the wedding cake in their kitchen, so we had to figure that out on our own! It needed to remain refrigerated. They tried to slap on a $650 cake cutting fee which of course we said absolutely not! We brought our own nice serving utensils and they miraculously came up missing before we left! We had reserved two rooms: one was for the ceremony, and the other would be for cocktail hour while the photos were taken. Then the room the ceremony was in will be flipped for the reception. We had no help flipping the room. All they did was take the chairs away and roll out a few tables and put table cloths on them. While my daughter got their photos done, me and my husband we're busy trying to make the room look nice for the guests! Absolutely terrible! If I had to do it all over again, I would most definitely NOT have her wedding there. Everything else about the wedding was great, the catering, our photographer and DJ. The people at Berkeley Hills were not helpful at all! I guess it's a good thing, because at the end of the night when we were cleaning up, there was a roach crawling across the wedding party table! I most definitely do not recommend entertaining a huge event there. It's not worth your aggravation or time! Especially if Lindsey is still there.
