Dr. Chang reviewed my sleep apnea test with me over two months ago, and together we selected a CPAP machine. Since then, I have heard absolutely nothing. After multiple follow-up calls, I was repeatedly told that the delay was due to my insurance company not approving the equipment. When I contacted my insurance directly, they informed me they could not authorize something that had never even been submitted by the office. On top of that, the patient portal constantly has problems, making communication even harder. Sleep apnea is a serious medical condition, and delays like this can directly impact a person's health and quality of life. Patients should not have to chase down basic medical follow-up or discover on their own that paperwork was never submitted. My advice: pick up copies of your exam results and consider seeing another pulmonologist.

When I arrived, I began removing my jacket, watch, and jewelry simply to be cooperative. Derrick immediately became confrontational and started raising his voice, saying, "I already told you that you don't need to take off your watch and ring." This was not someone being direct or having a bad day. His tone, body language, and overall demeanor were aggressive enough that the interaction felt genuinely and completely inappropriate for a healthcare setting. I walked in calm, respectful, and friendly as I always do and was treated with open hostility from the start. Patients should never be spoken to or treated this way. Professionalism and basic respect cost nothing. Update: Upon the unbelievable interaction with the tech on Friday, I spoke with Shari the patient coordinator at Crown Valley Imaging and ask for a copy of my report once it became available and it arrived today Monday. I ONLY moved to Hoag because they were close to my home. I'm irate with Hoag for numerous reasons. First, I scheduled a "Full Physical" where the took my weight, blood pressure, and asked me if I smoke or drink. Then, the doctor comes in and looks in my eyes, my throat and my ears; then listens to my heart. He aske me a few general questions and that was it. I was done. I had to request blood work to have my cholesterol checked. This was not a FULL PHYSICAL by any stretch of the imagination. But I guaranty they charged my insurance company grandly. I'm 63 and get a "full" physical every year. THIS WAS NOT A FULL PHYSICAL! Next, I received the results of my blood work via their app. Everything signaled fine w/ exception of my cholesterol level "still" showing signs of being prediabetic. I made an appointment so i could get the new prescription for statin... went... waited in the exam room for 40+ minutes... and had to leave due to work. They asked me if I wanted to setup a Zoom call w/ the doctor. This was irritating as well because that's what I tried to do initially and they said I had to go into the office. So, I set up the Zoom and later met with a doctor. She (as expected) said i should stay on the statin and submitted a prescription. Then, for the next 30 minutes she tried upselling me on Hoag services!!! Hoag submitted a bill for $300+ to my insurance of which they paid $50... and now I have been billed the difference. This is a MEDICAL BILLING DISGRACE that is costing me $250 for absolutely nothing. Then, when I complained via their Hoag system, they wrote back stating that because I agreed to a Zoom Dr call there's nothing they can do about it. Well, maybe nothing they can do... but there's something I can do. I'm giving Hoag both middle fingers and heading back to Providence in Foothill Ranch. "F" Hoag!!!

I know some people may hesitate because Dr. Shin is newer, but my experience with him was absolutely excellent. Before my first visit, Dr. Shin had already reviewed my medical history, which saved a lot of time and showed how thorough and caring he is. I came in for a physical and full blood work, and as soon as I checked in, Dr. Shin personally came to the lobby to ask about my concerns and what I wanted done. By the time I was in the exam room, everything was ready -- very organized and efficient! During the appointment, he listened carefully and offered thoughtful solutions before even mentioning medication. I really appreciated that he focuses on the root cause of issues, not just symptoms -- a true example of great osteopathic care.
