She was knowledgeable, entertaining, full of dad jokes, and kept the entire group engaged throughout the tour. She also took some incredible photos for our family! As parents, we really appreciated how Valerie connected with our kids and made them feel like they belonged. That small detail made a great experience truly memorable. One of the things we appreciated most was having the support boat nearby throughout the paddle. Knowing it was there if anyone needed assistance or a restroom break added an extra level of comfort and confidence, especially with younger kids. The kayaking itself was very manageable for our family, but what really set this experience apart were the views. Being in a kayak puts you right at the base of the cliffs, giving you an up-close perspective of Pictured Rocks that you simply can't get from one of the larger sightseeing cruises. I traveled from out of town for this experience. I spent money on lodging, gas, food, planning, and preparation for this trip -- far more effort and care than your company appeared willing to put into operating the tour itself. I arrived around 15 minutes early for the stated 2:30 PM meet time for the 3:00 PM launch and was immediately met with a completely locked building, no guide present, no organized check-in, no signage, no information regarding equipment, dry bags, footwear, launch procedures, or where guests were even supposed to be. Over the next 20+ minutes, I watched multiple confused guests continue arriving while company-associated employees sat nearby offering little to no proactive information despite clearly knowing the situation. Guests were left wandering around trying to figure out whether the tour was even happening. A shuttle eventually arrived AFTER the meet time had already passed, and when I directly asked for information regarding the tour, I was told they "had to figure that out." That is an absolutely insane thing to hear after guests have already arrived for a guided kayaking excursion. The employees present either had no ability to contact management or were unwilling. Nobody appeared to be in charge. No guide was present. No leadership existed. No confidence was inspired whatsoever. As a former kayaking guide myself, I have never seen a guided outdoor operation run this poorly. If your company is not going to have staff physically present at the meeting location, then guests should be meeting directly at the launch site. At the absolute minimum, the guide should already be there before guests begin arriving. Instead, what I experienced was confusion, silence, disorganization, unprepared employees, and complete operational incompetence from a company responsible for leading people out onto Lake Superior. Considering Lake Superior is one of the most dangerous and unpredictable freshwater lakes in the world, the level of disorganization and lack of professionalism this company displayed was completely unacceptable. At that point I chose not to participate because I had absolutely no confidence in the professionalism or management of the experience. Frankly, I would not trust this company with my outdoor experience if they had the last kayaks on earth. Thankfully, I spent the evening exploring Pictured Rocks and Lake Superior with my dog instead, which ended up being infinitely more enjoyable than wasting my afternoon standing in a parking lot waiting for someone to explain whether the tour was even functioning.

Raya answered all my questions in advance of the event quickly and with great detail. Yooper Yachts was the only company I found that allowed for single kayaks, as I was booking alone and didn't want to be paired with a stranger. My tour was run by Rick and Bob (father/son team) were super friendly and helpful. My group was 7 total kayakers (two tandem kayaks and three singles). We all met at the meet point, and after a short drive and set of instructions, we were in the water. The tour was fantastic. Rick provided a personal touch...learning everyone's names and getting to know them and providing interesting stories about the rock formations and area insights. Rick and Bob could not be nicer and more genuine. They gave us the freedom to roam and explore a bit on our own but were always close by if we needed them. They provided all of the required equipment, which was in great shape. They also had Dramamine available if we needed it. Honestly this is the best experience I could have hoped for in a tour of Pictured Rocks. You can really count on Yooper Yachts, they are very dependable and are a fun outfit!

Our cabin had its own bathroom which was great rather than using the bathhouse bathrooms (even those weren't bad and looked nice inside). We went sightseeing throughout the UP from here and went kayaking on the river through Northland where they'll drop you off then you kayak back to the site. The shop was also really nice inside and had some neat stuff. The campground itself was small but quaint, no one was noisy or annoying while we were there. Benny (the wooden sculpture) was fun to take pictures with too. Sad the old owners have left and sold it recently but am hopeful nothing major changes about it. We definitely plan on coming back in the future if it stays the same or is even better!

We're so glad we did! JD, our guide, gave us wetsuits, showed us how to stand up/paddle/fall/get back on (my friend was new and did great, I've gone quite a few times and learned some new tips), and then we paddled together into the sunset on a clear Lake Superior. The LED lights lighting up the water around our boards were awesome! It was a chilly evening, but our wetsuits kept us pretty warm. The boards are really stable and no one fell. Beginners can definitely do this. We felt comfortable and safe the whole time which let us really enjoy the serene evening on the lake. The company owners are also the guides and they are very attentive. This is a high quality company. The experience was worth it and we recommend it! Great guide, great experience, great company! It would be cool to see the Pictured Rocks this on a SUP and take a swim.
