ENG: I have eaten for the first time at "Da Leopoldo" in 2009. I was truly curious to explore this very famous place, with a great view of the sea, where my dad used to go when he would visit the island of Ischia. I have come back this summer for the second time, eating many times in a row and I must say that... I know no other place like this. The best food of the island, a stunning location, the beautiful atmosphere, the grace of the people working there and, most important, the personality of Leopoldo: he has been bringing this activity forward for 50 years, making the history of the restaraunts on the island of Ischia. Any small detail, from the ingredients to the decorations, is the outcome of a complex and succesful choice.
The place is truly cozy: everything is in wood, with a nice piano at the centre of the room and the possibility to eat outdoor. The music is lovely, never too strong, so that people can talk. There is also a nice collection of wines that are stored in a characteristic place.
About the food... you cannot go wrong: either you like the typical rabbit or spaghetti allo scoglio, portions are always big and taste amazing. I have come back so many times and I can say that my favorite are: paccheri mari e monti, pappardelle ai funghi, spaghetti allo scoglio and the grill. You also have gluten free and vegetarian option.
Finally, desserts cannot be forgotten: after having a piece of pastiera, Leopoldo told us that he also loves desserts and tries all of them. He actually follows very closely what happens in the kitchen.
For me, going to Ischia without visiting Leopoldo is like going to Rome without visiting the Colosseum.

ITA: Sono stato Da Leopoldo per la prima volta nel 2009. Ero assai curioso di visitare questo ristorante con vista mare di cui mi avevano parlato in tanti, a cominciare da mio padre, che ivi si recava ogni anno quando visitava l'Isola d'Ischia. Sono tornato ancora una volta quest'estate, 2016, e devo dire... non esiste posto dove io abbia mangiato meglio, con la migliore atmosfera, con la grazia e gentilezza del personale e l'incredibile personalità di Leopoldo, che da ormai 50 anni porta avanti quest'attività che ha fatto la storia della ristorazione a Ischia, curando tutto nei minimi particolari, dalla scelta degli ingredienti agli arredamenti.
Il locale è molto accogliente: tutto in legno, con un bel pianoforte al centro della sala e due terrazze. La musica è altrettanto piacevole, mai troppo forte, per permettere alle persone di parlare serenamente. Vi è anche una bella cantina che Leopoldo in persona mi ha mostrato, dove sono conservati i vini.
Quanto alle pietanze, non potete sbagliarvi: che vogliate un coniglio all'ischitana piuttosto che uno spaghetto allo scoglio, le porzioni sono sempre ben curate e molto abbondanti. Essendo tornato ogni sera della mia permanenza, posso dire di aver provato molte delle pietanze nel menu: Leopoldo non ti delude mai! I miei preferiti sono i paccheri mari e monti, le pappardelle ai funghi e le grigliate (sia di carne che di pesce).
Per finire, non possono non menzionarsi i dolci. Tutti fatti in casa: Leopoldo ci ha raccontato di esserne molto goloso, per cui è egli stesso il primo a saggiarli ogni volta.
Per me, andare ad Ischia e non passare da Leopoldo è come andare a Roma e non visitare il Colosseo. read more
