We walked around this ghost town in a gentle mist on a dark evening in the late fall and it was full of ghosts. It was eerie, empty and awesome. We were alone and nobody was there and nothing was open....that is until we saw the lights on at this taverna. We walked in, no ghosts, but a friendly woman instead. I'm glad we found this place. It was mushroom week, and many funghi specialities were available. We had mushrooms, mushroom pasta with truffle on top, and more mushrooms. One of our best meals in Italia! Nice local wine too. And as the night wore on, more and more people came in and ate dinner. This definitely became the hot spot in this ghost town. Wonderful place. However, the service was significantly lacking this visit. They were rude, inattentive. We asked to sit outside and he said inside was better. So we said we'd prefer outside (as we've always done) and he rolled his eyes and walked inside. So we followed him inside and got a table. The appetizers took over an hour. The server never came back to check on us. We never even moved onto ordering entrees. And I'm annoyed because I thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin raviolis in the past. I wanted them again. It was a great place to stop while strolling the cobblestone streets of Parma. I recommend the food but not the service or atmosphere anymore.

My first main dish was Tortelli di Zucca (pumpkin kind of ravioli) served with a very local soffritto sauce. Woooooooooooooooo!!! The capelletti were also super good and really like my mother's.... I could not refrain from tasting the dessert and I went for Zuppa Inglese, can.t translate, but if you never got it..... you definitely miss something delicious. Espresso of course and yes, grab the bottle of Nocino to sip this Amaro while you chit chat and end this spectacular dining experience. So, tradition with real care to great tastes enhanced from "you are guest at my home" type of welcoming atmosphere. Not expensive. Book in advance as the place is small and can get crowded. VERy simple, and I mean 1980's restaurant style in Italy. It was all grannies and Italian families on the Saturday that we were there. The place is bigger than it looks, with an outside garden and main dining room. The kitchen is bustling with Italian ladies who look like they were born making fresh pasta, which I loved. The menu offers typical favorites like prosciutto (we are in Parma!) torta fritta which are pillows of fried dough so good you'll eat them all. We followed that with two heaping (huge portions) of pasta, I got a ravioli stuffed with herbs and cheese and covered in a parmigiana, which was very light (satire). There is a guy with a bollito cart (boiled meats) that was kind of hilarious, I mean how many times in your life are you going to see some dude carting around a selection of meats in broth from table to table, that's Italy. We ordered the house lambrusco which frankly sucked but house wine can do that, my recommendation get a bottle. Awesome experience, very old-school, I'd wager this place is a bit of a find among locals. I wouldn't recommend this for a romantic date because of the bright lighting but they are very dog-friendly, in fact I think they preferred our dog over us. Ginger wins them all..
