Mainly for Obon festivals in the summer post Covid the Obon was one of the biggest events in So Cal the food, games, and Obon dancing were the highlights of the Obon and when it was ending they had a big cruise going on as many fixes up cars from imports to domestics were driving up and down the street and crowds gathering to watch that was the right way to show your cars not like how it is today with the so called takeovers. At these events all the drivers were mindful and respecting the law although it was shut down after an accident happened so as the Obon still is happening but the cruise not. From a temple perspective it was on the smaller side but it was quite nice. The grounds were clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. A super nice added touch was a volunteer hit the singing bowl everytime we bowed in prayer, even though we were the only ones praying at that time Timing is everything 6!!!!!! full busses stopped by while we were wrapping up so we avoided the crush. I haven't been to this temple since I was young, but it still looks the same as when I was younger. During the Tet festivities, they had live music, fireworks, food stands, lion dance, and photo ops. It was a little chaotic trying to do the countdown to the new year and it was hard to hear them because of the lion dancing and fireworks ongoing. The space was also much bigger and they had the best vegetarian meal. We got 2 banquet tables reserved and were served heaps of delicious food that were as good if not better than traditional restaurants. I'm addicted to their egg rolls. We were also served bánh hỏi thịt quay chay, bánh bao vịt quay chay, rice vermicelli with hot pot chay, mì xào giòn chay, and a couple more dishes. They were all incredible. The young monks and…read morenuns here read Kinh Phap Hoa every night (except 2 nights before Lay Sam Hoi on the 14 and the 29 or 30th, Vietnamese Day of every month) from 7:30pm to 8:30pm. They read Kinh Dieu Phap Lieu Hoa in a good speed where I can still follow. I don't read or write Vietnamese, it's a good speed to learn to read along. I've been to other temples and they read really really fast, but this temple speed is perfect for me. Each Month they also have Lay Sam Hoi twice a month, also at a really really speed too. I love the peaceful environment the monks, nuns, and the people here offer. It's a small crowd, ~10 to 15 people each night, but the environment is very peaceful and relaxing. People come, sit, read Kinh, then go home. This Wednesday, November 9, 2011 (which is the 14th Vietnamese date) is the Lay Sam Hoi Day.
