While in college, I wasn't able to go for a haircut by Ritchie and instead went to joints such as Supercuts, Great Clips, etc. There's nothing on this earth like one of these mom and pop barber shops. Down to earth, clean, and quality. Ritchie is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet, sociable and honest. He's had years of experience at cutting hair and it shows in his final product. A clean cut, attractive and very professional looking haircut. He'll never botch a cut. Each time that mirror's pulled out and he shows you the back neck line, it's perfect. Since Ritchie works solo and this place is more than popular in the area, you may have a good hour wait on weekends at peak times. Just give him call beforehand and ask if there's a wait. He'll be honest and upfront with you. Cuts are reasonably priced, $22 on weekdays and $25 on weekends. If you haven't yet discovered the Rye Ridge Barber shop, you're overdue.

Good hair cut, but questionable business practices…read more First things first- I was given a good hair cut, and if it were based on that alone I would be going back. So why 3 stars...Richie was very nice, very chatty and that means things take a long time. Not everyone wants to chat, but I get it. This also not a huge issue to me. More annoying- the price is not really the price. Listed prices are 28-29 for a hair cut, 30+ for long hair. The person before me, was charged you 28$. I was sitting there and watching. We had similar hair length (short business cut) so I was expecting the same. After 30 min in the chair I hand him 40$ expecting 12 back and he hands me a 10. Having read the other post about price variability I was annoyed but not shocked. Was he assuming a tip, charging me more for being new? Not sure, either way left a funny taste so I will find something else and less expensive. If I'm in a pinch, I'll consider returning but will plan on having exact change.

This location in Scarsdale has been beautifully renovated, so you definitely won't feel like you're getting a haircut from your dad's good ol' boy barber. At first I had walked into nearby Supercuts where they only had one person cutting and a line of about 4 people...so I ditched and walked over here. This place had 5 people cutting hair (or standing by to cut when needed) at 430pm on a Friday. I walked in and a lady got up from a chair in the back right away and took me instead of letting me wait for one of the 3 people already cutting. Adequate staffing for a high-demand period scored them points with me! There was little to no conversation going on like there is in most barber shops though so it felt eerily like a zombie-filled ghost-town The haircut only took about 8-minutes, which on a Friday was great, as I don't want to spend all afternoon in the barbers chair. The haircut looks good, and only cost $12 total. My complaint is that the lady didn't shave my neck (or the area below where the actual hair is and above the shirt). Apparently this place doesn't neck shave. When she finished cutting my hair she pulled the gown off of me as if to say you're done and I put my hand to the back of my neck and said what about this?? She then put it back on me, used a machine to buzz the back of my neck and then sent me on my way. This was the part that I am NOT happy about -- because a real barber should get out a damn razor and shave your neck, leaving a nice crisp line and a clean neck below! --JSW
